Decided to drop in for Shulk's day in RTC. Looks like he's doing well.
I've been checking his ratings all day and I will verify that he is. His chance is at 69% and want is at 70% currently.

I'm just surprised that people have been giving him 100% chance on the basis of the leak.

I find it more amusing that the majority of people giving Shulk 90+ want scores are not even active in this thread.

I know that there are some supporters of characters that don't go into that character's support thread. It's a shame too.

That's true. Looking at the stats for this thread, about 1 in every 29 views are people posting. Although I also look through a lot of character threads every so often and never actually post anything.

Honestly this is the only support thread I'm active in at all, so I guess it's not surprising that others aren't active here.

Out of all the support threads, I come here the most. I occasionally go to the Bandana Dee and King K. Rool support threads, however. Most of the time though, I'm here.

Ya seriously. The lowest I've seen for both want or chances is 55% and the majority are 70%+ for both want and chance. Even if we didn't have that though, c'mon at this point I honestly think Shulk is about as given as Palutena

I think it just has to do with people trying to not get to excited/attached to a thread for a character who might not be a character. I'm not really a support thread kinda guy myself, but I do hope to see Shulk show up for battle (I know for sure I'd be around here much more when and if he's announced.)

So...According to Groose the final total for Shulk is about 70% for both his chance and want. That's impressive.

I'll still leave some room for doubt for Shulk. He is definitely not as much of a given as Palutena (who at this point is definitely a shoo-in).
There were a considerable amount of 80+ scores... I don't even think that anyone has ever given a character 100% in chance other than certain veterans, Little Mac, and Palutena. People are extremely confident with this leak.

Yeah. I'm sure hoping the leak turns out to be true for their sake, but I won't give anyone 100% or even close to it unlesss they're literally staring me in the face. We haven't seen any Xenoblade content yet, which I'm sure is deliberate, but I have yet to see why I can give Shulk more than 80%, which is partyly because of the so-far reliability of the leak. 100% is just not being cautious, and potential for being let down.

Hell, I only gave Palutena a 99.9% because she's got TWO live leaks behind her, and Sakurai is literally slapping us in the face waiting for her reveal.

Speaking of RTC, Shulk is currently the 2nd most likely newcomer to appear in Smash. It doesn't mean, "Hey! He got a high score! He's a shoo-in!", but I was happy to see this!

I can honestly see Sakurai save Shulk for later... I believe the best time to do so would be at E3, so that people can be excited to see stuff about X. I'll still have Shulk at 80% until something significant happens. Shulk has a case were as time goes on, more of his pros become apparent and he slashes away more of his cons.

The only newcomer that is a shoo-in at this point is Palutena. After her, I expect Pac-Man, then King K. Rool, then Shulk, then Chrom.

With such high support, I can't decide whether I am more excited for Shulk Kong wielding the Banado or She-Hulk...

Awww, I missed Shulk's day on rate their chances. Sad times. What's the general consensus on who should be a Xenoblade assist trophy around here?

Honestly I don't think I've ever seen a consensus. All of the party members have support, and I'm pretty sure some have also wanted Metal Face.

Just out of curiosity, what would you have given him in chance and want?
I don't think that there is truly a general consensus for an Assist Trophy. I am hoping that Reyn is so that he can scream, "Now it's Reyn time!", when he gets summoned.

Hmm, the Sal Leak would make me want to give him an 85%, but I would honestly have given him a 65% for chance if not thinking in terms of leaks. He is basically in Isaac's position pre-brawl, in that he is in a newer gamer that has a strong but niche following.

For want? 95%. Love the character, but would be even more excited for everything else that would come with him (music, stage, items, etc.)

Also, I think the Heropon should be immortalized as an Assist Trophy, personally. Although I could never argue against Reyn.

I support Shulk 100% - and earlier in this thread (somewhere) you'll find i expressed this. I believe it was BluePikmin who said if i truly supported Shulk, i would buy and play Xenoblade. Well, a few days later, I came back to the thread and said i bought the game. And truth be told, i love it. It's been a blast so far. But i don't have as much time as i'd like and i get distracted by my friends playing games online that running through a 60+ hour single player game is hard these days for someone with a full time job on week days and a part-time job on weekends. That being said, I'm still playing, slowly crawling through the game, and I just beat the
Telethia. Riki so good.
I've mainly been avoiding this thread like the plague to avoid spoilers. But never forget, i 100% support Shulk and I'll be buying X when it comes out because i love the battle system of Chronicles.

EDIT- When Shulk does get announced, I'll come back into the thread to celebrate with all the other supporters and most likely disappear right after to avoid spoilers (unless i manage to clear the game by that point). If someone calls me out and says i was never here, anyone who reads this has to defend me. XD

Yeah, but I personally think that the game itself proves Shulk to be worthy of a playable status, unlike Isaac.

Golden Sun I think is a more financially successful series at the moment then Xenoblade, but it doesn't have (and never had) the hype or critical acclaim that Xenoblade has. No offense to Golden Sun, but it's much more typical JRPG fair, while Xenoblade is a breath of fresh air in the genre.

Going back to assists, I think Metal Face would work best as a boss, and I'm a fan of the idea of using "chain attack" as a final smash, that way we could see the entire playable cast of the series interact even if it's only for 7 seconds or so. Don't think that leaves us with many AT options, though.

Oh, yeah, Chain Attack is much better than Monado Buster, way much better, great suggestion!
Would work like Sora's FS in SSF2.

The FS should zoom into the player just like in the game.

I'm dreading the possibility of Metal Face as a boss, since I honestly want the Xenoblade stage to be a neutral. Chain attack as FS would be cool, so if those were for sure my only options, I'd take Metal Face as AT over anyone else.

There's always the Final destination version, right? Honestly, I feel like Sakurai bringing up Boss battles means we will see a minimum of 2 most likely at least 3 on each version, and Metal Face WOULD make sense.

On the topic of AT's, there's no reason why Xenoblade can't have two assist trophies. It's a very story and character-driven game, so it would make sense for it to receive more AT's than you might otherwise expect. And since Sakurai is trying to add as many as possible this time around, why not? As I said before, I'm expecting Fiora to get priority since she seems to be the game's most important and most requested [in Japan] character after Shulk. That said, I could also see Riki becoming an AT too since a lot of Monolith Soft staffers seem to be fond of him judging by the plushies in their offices. =P

Spazzy_D's chain attack idea would be a nice way to introduce Reyn and Sharla too (the de facto trio in Xenoblade, it seems).

Assuming Metal Face is a boss, that only leaves us with Dunban and Melia left.... Any suggestions?

FD has never really been my cup of tea though. It'd be cool, but... eh, I'd prefer a competitively viable Xenoblade stage with platforms. I think Stage Boss status will probably end up going to bigger name villains anyway though, so it's not something I'm too worried about.

Xenoblade's great, but so far we have Yellow Devil and some form of Ridley. Metal Face isn't exactly up there with them in my opinion.

There's no reason a chain attack couldn't include more then two characters.... I know it's limited to 3 in the game because of party mechanics, but Smash plays with the rules enough that seeing 4 or 5 people as part of the chain in Shulk's final smash wouldn't be weird.

Rule Number 1 of this thread should be to never mention Isaac. Let's not start those kinds of things in here... (even though I find those debates and fights to be sad and pointless)

After seeing Mega Man's Final Smash, I love the idea of having all 7 characters use a Chain Attack as a Final Smash. Sadly... that won't leave much room for Assist Trophies... (unless they make some Mechon or Nopon or maybe High Entia Assist Trophies)
I can see Shulk's Final Smash be Monado Cyclone. It screams "Final Smash" to me.

Shulk can finish off the Chain Attack with any Monado art he wants, so remember that as well. If we were going for random enemy AT, the Telethia stands out for me for some reason.

From what I've seen of the game so far through Let's Plays, I'd like this guy as the Xenoblade AT:

Dixon is a great character. If he is an AT, his attack would be "Thunderbolt." Part of Xenoblade is all of the great accents. They never get old.

Edit: Haha, his name got censored....so I'll just purposely spell it wrong

I think Dixon could work pretty well as an Assist Trophy, especially if you've finished the ending of Xenoblade.

It's not a pessimistic sort of feeling at least.

I guess that's sort of a key thing going on here, is that there aren't a lot of people that outright don't want the inclusion.

I think Shulk's abilities are certainly underestimated. I see people say that he's not interesting or don't see what makes him unique. Those people obviously haven't seen what he can do. The Monado isn't just some sword. This isn't the Falchion.

Frankly, the mindset that anybody who uses a sword = boring, is completely asinine. There are many different ways to use a sword, and the Monado has powers that make it completely unique from anything available in Smash. This is something that only Shulk can accomplish, which is why he is a character that I can't see Sakurai pass over at this point. If you're looking to add a new swordsman to the game, Shulk is a perfect choice.

Like I mentioned before, but I seriously think Shulk would benefit from a versatile style of gameplay, being able to utilize both defensive and offensive options.

I could see Monado Shield being a good choice for something like a brief defensive boost, and then other Monado Arts used to boost other facets of his movepool. I completely agree. He should be able to play any strategy. Defensive, offensive, zoning...he should be pretty good at each.

So is there a consensus on what Shulk's victory theme might be? The only memorable jingle I can recall from Xenoblade is the one that plays when you discover a secret area for the first time:

That could work, I guess. Do you guys have any other ideas though?

That'd be a perfect theme for him.

I'm curious what the fake-out element in a potential reveal trailer could be... They've all more or less had one so I'd be interesting to see what it'd be for him.
