The April Direct is the closest thing for that date, much like the December Direct was the closest one for the SM3DW release for Rosalina.
But it's not necessarily the case that that's why Rosalina was shown at that time. Personally I don't buy the idea that he reveals things during anniversaries. Lucario was the only time it was ever acknowledged directly by him.

I have thought of a good moveset for Shulk.
First off, here are my specials again:
First, what would be Shulk's gimmick? Little Mac has the Power Meter, Mega Man has his projectiles, and Rosalina has her Lumas. What would Shulk bring?
The Level Up
After when Shulk gives a certain amount of damage to his opponents, his Specials will level up. You start at level I and end at level III. However, if Shulk gets KO'd, he starts back at level I. The Level Up won't be applied to ground or aerial attacks.

Specials:
Standard: Monado Buster

This made sense to me as his neutral special. It's a charging move and the process of charging the move is similar to Marth's Shield Breaker or Ike's Eruption. However, the longer you hold down the special button won't increase the damage that you will do. Instead, it will increase the length of the Monado's beam. The Level Up will increase the power of Monado Buster, but won't increase the length of it. At level I, this does 20% max; level II, 25% max; level III, 30% max. It might not see use in competitive play, but it can be useful in casual play. The maximum length the Monado can go at is nearly 1/4 the length of Final Destination.

Side: Monado Eater
I had trouble figuring his side special out, but I decided on Monado Eater. What Monado Eater will do is that it will send out a projectile and cause some poison damage (think of Lip's Stick). Monado Eater was a debuff move in Xenoblade; Shulk would attack the opponent and would cause them to bleed. I think that a poison-like status would be similar in vain to the bleed status in Xenoblade. The Monado's beam will turn into a dark purple color and fire a quick projectile. This projectile can be charged to be more powerful and when it reaches its maximum, Shulk can store it and fire it whenever he wants to. The projectile in question can be as small as Luigi's Fireball or as big as a fully charged Aura Sphere from a Lucario at 0% damage and the projectile is as fast as either of those moves. What the Level Up will do here is alter the duration of the poison. At level I, the poison lasts for 1-2 seconds; at level II, the poison lasts for 2-3 seconds; at level III, the poison lasts for 3-4 seconds. This move can easily be reflected and can hit Shulk, thus poisoning him.

Down: Monado Shield
This one made sense to me and it's rather simple too. Monado Shield is a reflector move that is quite different from usual reflectors like Fox's Reflector or Pit's Mirror Shield. This move does no damage, but it shields Shulk from any projectile and allows him to move around. How long it stays out depends on Shulk's current status in the Level Up. At level I, Monado Shield will last for 3 seconds; at level II, Monado Shield will last for 5 seconds; at level III, Monado Shield will last for 7 seconds. As this move is being activated, the Monado's beam turns into a golden yellow color.

Up: Monado Speed
I had trouble with this one as well. I wanted to use a regular Art that Shulk knows, but I rather have Shulk's whole moveset be based around Monado Arts. As a result, I decided to combine one of Shulk's regular Arts with this Monado Art.
Think of Ike's Aether. Shulk can only go straight up, but he holds onto his sword. The Monado's beam turns into a dark blue color and it gives him a boost of speed and thus giving him his third jump. As Shulk rises, he can still take some damage. At the very apex of the jump, Shulk does anAir Slash. When he does an Air Slash, he gains super armor and thus cannot be knocked back. This move can be useful against edge guarders who are just grabbing onto the ledge and the Air Slash could catch them off guard. After his Air Slash, Shulk enters a helpless state. In times of emergency, you can have Shulk preform an air dodge and you can allow him to use a different move in the air afterwards, but you can't use Monado Speed again. The move doesn't become more powerful in the Level Up, but it increases Shulk's speed when rising upwards. At level I, Monado Speed is as fast as Lucario's ExtremeSpeed; at level II, Monado Speed is 1.25x faster than Lucario's ExtremeSpeed; at level III, Monado Speed is 1.5x faster than Lucario's ExtremeSpeed. Shulk's height from the recovery is about the same as Kirby's Final Cutter, but Shulk can only go straight up and cannot move in the air.

Final Smash: Monado Cyclone
By far the best option for his Final Smash. No matter where you are in the Level Up, Monado Cyclone is always at level III.
Shulk says "Behold the power of the Monado!", rises from the ground and creates a giant and windy pillar. The Monado's beam here will also turn into a white color.
Opponents will have a hard time running away from the Monado Cyclone as it has a vacuum effect to it and the Monado Cyclone does continuous damage. Think of it like Ho-Oh being summoned from a Poke Ball and is using its attack. Monado Cyclone can even go through the grounds of a stage. The final hit does extremely minimal knockback, but the opponents would be at a high enough damage percentage already that they will get KO'd easily anyway.

Now, my moveset:
Shulk is a hard hitter, but his weight is around where Mario's is. Shulk is all about predicting your opponent and if you predict correctly, you can use a devastating attack from Shulk. He has a decent ground game and a decent aerial game. However, some of his tilts and aerials aren't really heavy hitters. His up and side smashes are what you want to use when you find an opening. His jumps and speed are about average; his jumps are kind of higher than Ike's and he is slightly slower than Luigi.

Neutral Combo (AAA): Shulk swings diagonally in two directions and then ends with a vertical slash. It causes minimum knockback and does 9% damage total.
Dash Attack: Dunban's Gale Slash is his dash attack. Shulk will dash forwards and swing his sword horizontally. It's reliable as a KO move and it causes 15% damage.

Tilts
Side Tilt:
Slit Edge is his side tilt. It has long reach, but it isn't really a KOing move. Missing the attack will leave Shulk vulnerable; connecting it will cause small knockback and gives 13% damage. It's mostly a damage racker.
Down Tilt: It's a stab. Think of Link's crouch stab in the Zelda games; it's not nearly as fast however. With the long reach of the Monado, it could potentially gimp recoveries like Luigi's. It's a rather weak attack as it does 5% damage.
Up Tilt: Shulk raises his sword upward like Marth's up smash. Not a lot of knockback is given, but it helps continue juggles. It does a total of 11% damage.

Smashes
Side Smash:
Back Slash is his side smash. Shulk will do a quick hop and unleash a devastating blow. It's highly reliable in terms of knockback and damage as opponents will be sent flying and it causes 18% damage. However, it's best to be careful as it leaves Shulk wide open.
Down Smash: Shaker Edge is his down smash. It has pathetically weak knockback and it causes 9% damage, but it's a very reliable move. Shulk will swing his sword downward and connecting the attack will stun the enemy. The opponent also has a chance to trip, causing them to be susceptible to a Back Slash or an attack from Monado Buster.
Up Smash: Stream Edge is his up smash. Shulk will swing at a range of 220 degrees and he could hit anyone next to him and above him. People on the sides while Shulk is using this move will experience small knockback and gain 13% damage. People above Shulk will experience a ton of knockback and gain 17% damage.

Grabs
Pummel:
Shulk will punch the opponent for 2% damage.
Forward Throw: Shulk uses a horizontal slash quickly. This does a total of 14% damage and does decent knockback.
Backward Throw: Shulk quickly turns and kicks the opponent. This does a total of 16% damage and does some better knockback than his forward throw.
Down Throw: Shulk throws his opponent downward and does a vertical slash. This does a total of 12% damage and does minor knockback. This helps Shulk set up a finishing blow or juggle them.
Up Throw: Shulk throws his opponent upwards and does a vertical slash; the height of when Shulk throws his opponent is small so that Shulk can use the Monado. This does a total of 12% damage as well and does minor knockback. Same with the down throw, it helps Shulk set up a finishing blow or juggle them.

Aerials
Neutral:
Shulk spins around, but his hits don't do continuous damage. This attack does small knockback and 12%.
Forward: Shulk brings back the Monado to behind him and swings it forward. Think of the times where Shulk attacks Metal Face in the cutscenes by jumping and then slashing. This is a really powerful attack that causes great knockback and 15% damage.
Backward: Shulk moves his body behind him and does a horizontal slash. The knockback it does is small when the opponent is at smaller percentages, but it really hits hard at higher percentages. This aerial has another affect where Shulk will start facing the opposite direction from when you used that move, much like Marth's back aerial. This does 13% damage.
Up: Shulk swings upwards and uses Stream Edge. However, it's weaker in the air; don't always expect a KO and use it for juggling. The damage done is 14%.
Down: Shulk swings down vertically and it causes a meteor smash. It does 15% damage.

Ehh... I'm more proud of my specials, but what do you think about my moveset in general? I can see some improvements.

Can we not have a Shield or Healing thing for a down B?

I feel as though Monado Shield is an obvious move to give to Shulk. I can't see him with a different down special.

This is my moveset for Shulk. Imo this makes him standout above the rest of the cast & it pays a nice homage to the overall Xenoblade gameplay

His standard B should be that he activates the Monado, allowing him to use 1 Monado art that either does major damage or shield him from it. However after Shulk has used 1 Monado art, the Monado has to cool down, due otherwise people always would spam Monado buster (25 seconds is that enough to not make him OP?)

Standard Moves
Up B Airslash(inflicts Break)
Side B Backslash(if hit from behind it does more damage)
Down B(can inflict daze aka Mewtwo's disable move if Shulk was fast enough to inflict Topple after Break)
Regular B Activate the Monado

Regular B Monado Buster(Major damaging Move)
Up B Monado Cyclone(if Shulk was fast enough to inflict Break with Airslash he can topple/trip the enemy now, allowing him to pull the Daze combo next)
Side B Monado Purge(Seal an opponent move for 10 seconds)
Down B Monado Shield(Barrier that makes every attack directed to Shulk do 1 damage for 7 seconds)

However like I said Shulk can only use 1 Monado art at the time & it needs to cooldown for balancing(just like in Xenoblade)

Feel free to fix my moveset tough :) & I'm not really an hero with coming up with ideas for his A moves

Well I think that's the problem some people have with it. It's just so obvious. In the past I've used it too, but I've since taken to giving him Cyclone in that slot.

@ RawstyleEevee RawstyleEevee
I like it for the different on activating the Monado, but I just feel like it would end up being aesthetically very unimpressive. His non-Monado specials look rather bland and not unlike normal sword strikes (even though I know the effects are what set them apart). Personally I've just always thought that Smash should represent the character at their strongest (within reason of course) so having him use Monado arts only sparingly seems like, not the way to go for me.

That said, it's probably my favorite pick of non-Monado specials in any move set that I've seen.

I'd be interested to see a Shulk moveset that somehow makes use of the temporal properties of the Monado. It's one of the central features of Xenoblade, but they'd have to get really creative with it to work it into SSB.

I just realized how cute Kirby will look running around with messy blone hair and wielding a mini Monado.

Honestly, I'm hoping either Shulk or Palutena are revealed in April. That would cause my hype to shoot through the roof.

My hype would go to absolute extremes if Shulk was confirmed! (especially if the trailer uses You Will Know Our Names) However, I would be content if Takamaru was confirmed next month; apparently the Ninja Castle anniversary is next month. Hmm...

Still, I am going to hope for Shulk to get confirmed in that April Direct.

I actually kinda hope Shulk is held off till E3, provided he's in at all. Assuming Nintendo goes back to doing a press conference style show, I want to be able to see/hear peoples reactions to him. That's one thing that is mostly lost with Directs.

One of the arguments I've seen many use against Shulk is, ironically, his recency.

If anything that adds to his chances since he'd be one of the few new post-Brawl characters, and I imagine that's a factor Sakurai is looking for.

Well it's really neither for nor against. It's all about spin really.

WE would argue what you said: Sakurai might be wanting to add post-Brawl characters and he's really one of very few stand-outs as far as that goes.

THEY would argue that: He's TOO recent and hasn't had a chance to develop a fan-base, and is technically a one-off.

The truth is though, he's not that recent, at least in my opinion. Xenoblade came out in what, 2010? 2011 in Japan? That's at least a year or two before this game even began development, and by then the game already pretty much had the popularity it has now.

That recency argument is absolutely stupid and I find it to be an excuse to argue why Shulk should not be in Smash.
You know when Pokemon Red and Green were released in Japan? 1996. When did SSB64 get released in? 1999.
Xenoblade came in 2010 and we will probably get this game in 2014. So... the time between Pokemon and SSB64 is shorter than the time between Xenoblade and SSB4; 3 years from Pokemon to Xenoblade's 4. Being too recent didn't stop Pokemon from getting 2 representatives in Smash. Heck, Pichu got in Melee 2 years after its debut; Lucario got in Brawl 3 years after its debut (2 if you don't count the anime); Ike from Fire Emblem got in Brawl 3 years after his debut. These are times that are shorter than Shulk's creation and SSB4's release. Heck, how come people aren't complaining about Chrom, Lucina, Robin, and other characters from Awakening for being too new when Xenoblade was released two years before it in Japan?

Shulk is from a series that is new, but that doesn't mean that Shulk should not be in Smash. His fan demand and Xenoblade's popularity definitely helps him... it's especially important that the roster was decided around when Xenoblade got released in America.

Shulk obviously won't get in because he's British.

British isn't Murica or Groious Nippon enough.

Guys, if bosses return as an idea, should Metal Face be one, and have special dialogue when fighting Shulk?

People have brought up Metal Face as a Boss Battle before and honestly he makes the most sense. Now special dialogue.. that'd be cool. Potential spoiler though? Doubt it matters either way.

Really interesting. "You murderer!" or "Come here, Monado boy." I don't think that would necessarily give anything away. I don't know, man.

I just want a Shulk reveal ASAP. E3 is way too far off for me to wait. I also think that the vision mechanic has to be implemented into his moveset somehow. It's core to Shulk's abilities (other than the Monado, of course). Sakurai and his team can find a way to do it, I'm sure of it. If the likes of Game & Watch, Wii Fit Trainer, and Peach could have a moveset thought up for them, the vision mechanic should be fairly easy to inplement.

I like the idea of every character having different dialogue depending on who they are fighting, but that would definitely be a low priority feature ranking below individual victory themes. I doubt Metal Face would have any spoilers if he was included as a boss fight. Nothing past maybe the first few hours of the game anyway when he does you know what

Of course with the somewhat low quality models of Xenoblade Chronicles, the models don't exactly translate smoothly into Super Smash Bros.

And this is probably one of the bigger reasons I really want Shulk in Smash 4. If he and Xenoblade content aren't in there this time around, who knows how long it'll be till we see that world in glorious HD.

I think y'all are doubting too much Shulk is definitely in I don't know why anybody would think he's not.
Lets look at the facts one of the most critically acclaimed RPG's and arguably Nintendo's best RPG, Japans most wanted character (Besides Roy and Mewtwo of course) a highly requested character in America and probably even Europe, and Sakurai even posted a picture of the Monado.
Shulk Confirmed! All we have to do is wait for the X Direct or the X release date. Yes I'm that confident that Shulk is in and any naysayers will get proven wrong in the coming months Mark my words.

I think it's more of the fact that Sakurai wants to represent Nintendo masterpieces like Mother, I'm pretty ****ing confident that Xenoblade will at least have content, that's why I don't really doubt Shulk at all nowadays.

The new IP's Characters that make a big splash like Xenoblade are guaranteed. What we should be worried about is lesser known IP's like Wonderful 101 (Wonder Red) and Nazo no Murasame Jo (Takamaru) but alas the less popular will stay less popular and will probably be overshadowed.

Well I don't wanna be a Debbie Downer on his on support thread so...

I will agree people definitely want him and Sakurai is definitely aware of his existence. Sakurai definitely always includes new IP's in Smash. Shulk confirmed!

Depending on the moveset and whether or not he's a slow character, I think Light Heal is a good move if he gets gimped alot in battle.
Why would he be slow? He's a fast character in Xenoblade. Near Dunbar on agility. His HP also sucked.

Recent helps more than it hurts. It means he's in the limelight. From the looks of te character additions, recent seems to be mostly what they are going for. WFT and Rosalina both debuted in 2007 (2008 in the West) and the newest Punch-Out game was in 2010. Him being a new series helps.

Plus, he has been a popular character here and in Japan.

Ike, Samus, Mewtwo and Falco are supposed to fast in their respective games. Moreso than Marth, Zero Suit Samus, Pikachu and Fox, respectively.

Stats and attributes apparently mean bupkis to Sakurai when it comes to balancing.

Exactly. Depending on how the Monado is handled, Shulk would have to be a slow character as a matter of balance.

Falco isn't necessarily fast. He was in an Arwing all the time up until Melee. Samus is about as fast as she is in the games. Mewtwo is one of the strongest Pokemon in the series, so there is a reason he's slowed down.

I'm sure this argument has already been addressed at one point, but how does the fact Golden Sun is going to be available on the Wii u affect Shulk's chances? A little? Not at all?

I don't think Golden Sun affects Shulk at all. Would be rad if they both got in though. I think I said this previously but Smash 4 as a whole seems to be centered around recency. Pokemon X/Y stage, Sonic Lost World Stage, Samus is based off her Other M design, Rosalina and WFT like others have said, and other stuff I cannot think of off the top of my head. I may be wrong, but were Brawl and Melee like that?

Well if you see how slow he runs in Xenoblade, he would be one.
With his many arts he has, I think naturally he would be a slow character.
