So I ask again and again, how can we effectively use time in his moveset?
I just simply say that it simply slows down time so Shulk can attack, but it would cause a huge buffer of time to recharge.
Gaining the ability of foresight.

Like a down special or a passive mechanic, the game would essentially give you a forewarning of an enemy attack using silhouettes that basically gives you an estimation of your opponents actions. Like the silhouettes would depict the opponent preforming a dash attack ahead of time before the opponent actually preforms the action, giving you a much better time anticipating either the attack itself or the opponent switching tactics at the last minute in response. Basically, it's a mechanic that encourages mind games.

Giving Shulk visions in his moveset seems a technical nightmare. Honestly the best I have ever seen is an FS that locks opponents into certain actions. Anything else either comes off as OP or just gimmicky for gimmick's sake to me.

And to add to the previous conversation; I think seeing any Xenoblade content that isn't Shulk would suggest his inclusion. If he was in as anything other than a playable character, he'd be the first thing we see I think.

I would just have Foresight rewind the opponent back where they initiated the attack while Shulk's eyes turn blue. That way their attack was the "vision." A different kind of counter.

That gap is just begging to be filled by a certain someone....
Thought the same thing when I saw that timeline. Looking at the one just up till Brawl, there was a number of new fighters, so to leave that large a gap leading up to this one would be odd...

Is there even any other's who would give him a run for his money in terms of new-ness?

I support Shulk for Smash. I'm horribly fascinated by his game but will not shell out $70 at my local gamestop for a copy. However I am keeping a close eye on the development of X hoping its along the same universe so I can jump into this new-ish franchise.

My only concern for Shulk is to not make him another swordsman along the lines of Link, Toon Link, Marth, Ike, Roy, Metaknight, Pit, etc. He must have other unique abilities

Wonder Red? The Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo owned trademark...

Oh and maybe Dillon from Rolling Western? I'm just spitballing here
Right, definitely heard those two brought up before. Both honestly seem interesting, though I've been of the opinion that Wonder Red would've been revealed back in September but who knows.

Blanking on anybody else, minus the extremely unlikely 3rd Party Bayonetta.

Ya I agree. Platinum did come out and say that they would be interested in working for Nintendo second-party wise but as far as I can tell it's not going anywhere just yet.

And as for new characters/franchises; we are now probably at the stage of smash development where the newer stuff would be too new to go back and change the game's foundation to add them in any significant manner.

Yup, I'd say the best newest thing we could expect was something released last year, and that's provided Sakurai was given some sort of heads up.

Other than that, around 2011-ish is about the newest series I think we'll see repped.

Other characters post brawl include:
Chrom Robin Lucina (FE)
Hades (KI)
Ghiriam (Zelda)
some new pokemon
Zael (Last Story)
Aeron (Pandora's Tower)
Alph, Brittany, Charlie (Pikmin 3)
W101
Chase McCain (Lego City) doubt it
Matthew (GS)
So that would be Shulk's pseudo competition if you wanted to look at things that way, although the inclusion of one likely won't affect the others.

The thing is though, besides the other two Rainfall games (which Shulk already outcompetes) and W101, none of those other games on that list are a new IP after Brawl (though Dillion's Rolling Western is, but wasn't listed above). So with that in mind Shulk has more of an edge given that factor.

Dillon (The Rolling Western)
Mallo (Pushmo)
and Tempo (Harmoknight)
are also notable post brawl characters.

In terms of new series since Brawl I can't see anything that trumps Shulk. I can't see Shulk really being in much competition with the existing franchises either. (and even if he was I'd only be concerned with Chrom/Robin)

Don't forget Monita from Nintendo Land. :p
But I think Shulk has the bigger spotlight.

Shulk has got so many things going for him. An IP born post-Brawl and being the main character of said IP, which also means no competition from his own realm, very popular worldwide (especially in Japan), potential for a very unique moveset, and the fact that Sakurai is well aware of his existence and has acknowledged it.

I see no reason why he shouldn't be in the roster.

Yes, go look the leak and rumors thread. It's the exact same pose from another wii picture.
Well… that really sucks…
*sigh*

EDIT: I'm hoping that we could get a leak of him later on. Something like the Palutena leak where it can't be disproven.

Umm… ignore this post please.

I kinda overreacted a bit with my previous post. I guess that happens when you see a leak of a character get debunked.

I think we all have to be bummed out after the fake Shulk picture, but there will probably more, and likely something even better down the line. On a side note, here's a pretty cool analysis and very in-depth look at the music of Xenoblade. Shows how some melodies reoccur throughout the game as well as fan arrangements/remixes. http://operationrainfall.com/soundtrack-study-xenoblade/

I have high hopes that Shulk will be in Smash. He has many different abilities from other sword characters. Plus I like his color scheme.

Speaking of Rate Their Chances, here is the post I made on there. It's really long, but I have explained why Shulk is one of the most likely newcomers in Smash 4:

That's very impressive. It should definitely be added to the OP of this thread as people would get a better understanding of Shulk. I'll write something too, but I think you pretty much covered all of the bases, ha. Nice job.

I'll try to contribute throughout today, but I'm typically not super great at piecing together entire movesets and stuff.
