Shulk is hands down my favorite character. Riki is actually my least although he does have some great moments. I'd go more in depth on other characters but I don't want to spoil anything for those who have not gotten very far into the game. I'll just say I like Metal Face. Plus I felt bad for Melia at times. Idk why but Fiora just never resonated with me as much, however as I said I pretty much like the entire cast despite picking favorites.

From the playable characters, for me:

Shulk > Riki > Fiora > Dunban > Melia > Reyn > Sharla

I loved all of them though, if they could all (sans Shulk) be assist trophies I'd love it. (+ Metal Face, although he'd probably make a better boss/stage hazard)

I love every single main character in Xenoblade. In terms of character and personality, I think that they are all full of life. I always felt this sort of cheer when something good happened to a character and felt sadness when something bad happened to a character.
[collapse=Beginning game spoilers!]Even though I am in New Game Plus and I knew this was going to happen, I still felt sad when I saw Fiora die.[/collapse]
I think my absolute favorite character is Reyn. I found him to be enjoyable, some of his moments were absolutely hilarious, and, of course, REYN TIME!

The character that I used the most was Shulk. I didn't play as anyone else unless I was forced to play as another character. As a result, I am not too familiar with other character's play-styles. (apparently Melia is pretty good… her AI suggested otherwise)

Melia takes the cake for me. I love her quiet, calm personality, yet she still has a strong authoritative edge. Far better then any Disney princess if you ask me.

Plus her artwork design is really cool.

Your words, they ring true, I feel their weight xD thats the same reason she became an instant favourite of mine though (major spoilers incoming)

imo she has the most character development due she suffers the most from the main cast due she first saw her father getting killed before her eyes.
She saw her brother transform into a Telethia.
In her childhood she was not respected by some of the High Entia due she is half-homs & raised in seclusion as a child. When Fiora joined the party again she had to give up on her feelings for Shulk.
Last but not least in the ending it came over she was forever alone even Reyn kinda ended up with Sharla

Speaking of Melia, but from browsing Pixiv it seems like she's the fan favorite.

I've especially seen several pictures of her being paired up with Riki.

To put my favorite playable characters into three separate groups (grouped characters in no particular order). . .

Favorite group: Melia, Shulk, Dunban
Second favorite group: Reyn, Fiora
Third favorite group: Riki, Sharla

. . . That being said, I don't particularly dislike any of those characters, and although he isn't playable, I was quite fond of Egil.

My favorite would be Melia, Reyn, then Shulk... liked everyone else too, but they just fell behind those three for me. I do know Sharla was still my least favorite though.

I was thinking about some quotes Shulk could say during his taunts and victory animations.

Up Taunt: Shulk holds up the Monado and says, "This is the Monado's power!"
Side Taunt: Shulk swings around the Monado and uses Monado Enchant. When he does this, he says, "You are not invincible!"
Down Taunt: Shulk holds the Monado sideways in front of him and says, "The future doesn't belong to you!"

Up Victory: Shulk holds the Monado high above him and swings it vertically and says, "Behold the power of the Monado!"
Side Victory: Shulk puts the Monado away and starts thinking. Before he starts to think, he says, "That was too easy!"
Down Victory: Shulk slashes with the Monado diagonally in two directions to form an "X". When he does this, he says, "I can change the future!"

Generally in actual gameplay I tended to play as either Shulk, Riki or Fiora, with Sharla for healing and then I'd frequently switch between the remaining five for the third slot.

I don't like leaving a character out of battle for too long.

Everybody is round about the same level as each other, so you don't have to go out of your way to grind for one certain character.

I'm reminded of numerous quotes of her wanting to cuddle him after a battle. I find it adorable myself really.

Never noticed all that. I honestly couldn't stand Melia, or Riki. Well... Riki just had a bad VA I thought.

Riki's VA was a bit grating a few times, but it wasn't to the point of muting or anything.
Melia, well.... I've got bias for Melly seeing as she is my favourite character out of the party

My main problem with the English VA is that it sort of kills off a joke.

It was originally intended for Riki to have a high pitched youthful voice similar to a child, so that when you discover that he has a wife, a handful of children, and is in actuality 40 it comes as a shock. But since his English voice sounds more like a high pitched adult, it sort of kills the shock value.

Am I the only one that actually liked Riki's voice? And I was still pretty shocked about his family and age.

Yeah I thought that as well, but I still disliked the Nopon's in English in general.

The Nopon make me think of the Mr. Saturn from EarthBound.
They're cute creatures with broken English, but they are rather intelligent.

On the subject of the Nopon, I don't find Riki to be annoying. However, his English voice actor threw me off-guard. I was expecting something more cutesy or something like Kirby.

Personally, I liked Riki's voice. The comments he often made made me chuckle. I didn't quite understand why the Nopon's English was so weird, but it was all still pretty amusing.

I do have more hope for Shulk now.
Captain Rainbow was an absolute commercial failure; the game got under 20000 copies sold and the European port got cancelled as a result. So, seeing that game get referenced of all things gives me hope. Why is that? If that commercial failure is getting referenced in Smash, then I bet Xenoblade will also get some content. Xenoblade is far, far more known than that game is, so I doubt that Xenoblade is going to be overlooked by Sakurai.

Hadn't thought about this till now. Captain Rainbow is a bit older, (actually quite a bit, came out right around Brawl) but the popularity/success aspect of it still stands. If Xenoblade was something on Sakurai's mind at any point, it's likely he found it worth representing in some form or another.

@ BluePikmin11 BluePikmin11 Seeing that video with Shulk being such a heavy hitter was actually... odd. But it did get me thinking about what I think he should play like. And the specials they used were actually pretty neat, assuming Eater was his side special, though it looked to be a side smash actually.

With the pic of the Monado posted on his Twitter, it's safe to say that Sakurai considered Shulk and had Xenoblade on his mind.
I think that we are now guaranteed that Xenoblade content will be in Smash. The ultimate question is, will this content include Shulk as a playable character?

True, I guess it really isn't a matter of if Sakurai had Xenoblade in his thoughts, just a matter of what those thoughts were.
Seems kinda silly to take this of all updates as any sort of indicator of his chances, but it is undeniable that here we have something that I think most would've expected to be a sticker if anything in Brawl, yet it's a trophy here.

Now it could be the Captain Rainbow Little Mac trophy is in more due to Little Mac being a playable character, but still... It's from that game.

I think Xenoblade is guaranteed to have a few trophies simply because it's more economical to touch up assets from Wii games rather than creating hundreds of models from scratch. That's not to say there will or will not be any Xenoblade characters or stages, but some content is assured.

Wow I've missed quite a bit of discussion.

My goodness, Fiora was straight up annoying.

As regards to that PSA. It's obvious that it needs a lot more polishing. Those animations looks so clunky, but it's only a beta. It'll get better with time. Really surprised to see Cyclone as a recovery move. Was hoping to see Monado Speed.

My first thought was actually who plays on that stage?

I always appreciate seeing Shulk hacks in Smash. Makes hoping for the real thing all the more exciting, however strange his hacked model's movements may be

Hacks in general show that there is a dedicated fanbase out there willing to go to extremes to get their character in Super Smash Bros.

Well take Captain Rainbow representation (relatively obscure title,) add Pokemon X/Y representation both in stage and assist trophy form (relatively new title) and I think we see some of the things going against Xenoblade representation crumbling.

I just hope the Xenoblade content in the end will lead us to a stage, music, and ultimately Shulk being playable. With a stage from a recent game and content from an incredibly obscure one, I think that there is some more evidence pointing towards Shulk and Xenoblade getting content.

I dunno if this has been said before, but the "too new" argument is stupid and I find it unbelievable that people still use that against him.

Which would you rather have happen? A simple stand alone screenshot of a stage, item, trophy, ect. of Xenoblade relation, or see nothing of the sort and just have Shulk appear in the roster first?

I'd personally pick the latter. We've gone through (and still are going through) enough hinting and teasing with other franchises as is. :glare:

Hmm… that's a tricky one.
I would love for Shulk to appear in the roster first since I wanna see him in action. However, I would love to see a random Xenoblade Assist Trophy or stage so that people can start thinking that he's far more likely… (unless Smashville skeptics appear…)

I will go with the latter, but I wouldn't mind the former.

Shulk could be revealed without any Xenoblade content for Sakurai to be unpredictable.
His game is extremely worthy enough for me to add him to the roster, and he also brings something new to the table, which is a good thing for Shulk.

Though… I rather have him be predictable for this. I just wanna see a Smash development with Xenoblade, ya know?

I find Shulk to be one of the most unique characters Sakurai could add and it's all thanks to the Monado. As I've mentioned time and time again, not having Xenoblade content is an absolute crime. I'm just hoping that we can at least get something soon.

Also, I'd wager if we do get an assist trophy that isn't Shulk (like Riki or Metal Face as an example), I'd wager that would more or less mean Shulk wouldn't be an Assist Trophy.

So I ask again and again, how can we effectively use time in his moveset?
I just simply say that it simply slows down time so Shulk can attack, but it would cause a huge buffer of time to recharge.

If some Xenoblade character was confirmed to be an Assist Trophy and it isn't Shulk, then I would consider him all but confirmed at that point.
It would be extremely weird to have a Xenoblade character be an AT and not have the main character be playable.
