He said bold predictions, not necessarily a leak. To me, that's about as believable as Lebron going to the Lakers this year. Sorry, not buying it.

But I do love the idea of it.

I'll get hype if Nintendo announces a Direct for the 30th. Other than that, it's not going to happen.

I did it! I beat Xenoblade!
The final boss was tricky… especially when he could summon minions to his will. It's also a shame that once I beat the game, I start from the beginning with more powerful weapons; I was hoping that I could do after-game side-quests and such like in Paper Mario: TTYD and SPM.

Overall though, this game is definitely within my top 10 games. The game just impressed me from beginning to end and I never grew tired of the game. I loved the exploration and the game had fantastic characters, fun gameplay, amazing graphics by Wii standards, a fantastic story, and an extremely good soundtrack. I don't have many complaints really. I just wish that some areas on the Bionis didn't have overpowered enemies when I first get there. (you're level 10 and you see an enemy that is level 80 in Gaur Plain?)

I hope that after X, which I fully believe is a Xenoblade sequel, Xenoblade will have a future. We've seen Nintendo IPs get abandoned and not have a sequel in a long time. Look at Kid Icarus; it took nearly 25 years for a sequel to come. I just hope that we can see Monolith Soft make more and more Xeno games in the future for Nintendo. I would also love to see Xenoblade get an HD remake or get re-released on the Wii U's eShop because this game needs to be played by more people.

In terms of Smash, Shulk needs to get in Smash. With all of the effort Monolith put into Xenoblade and how many people wanted to see this game get released in the US, Shulk has earned his spot. If he is an Assist Trophy, then I would find that to be an insult in my opinion.

You left out the part where everyone rushes to Gamestop to buy the rest of the over priced "used" Xenoblade stock.
If only. I wish Nintendo would make and release more copies of Xenoblade. Again, it's a shame that it was a limited release in one retailer only.

Here's how to kill the arguments against Shulk.

If they say he's too new tell them to see Roy in Melee.

If they say he's not relevant tell them to see Xenoblade and X possibly being sequel to Xenoblade.

If they say he's too niche tell them to see Ness/Lucas.
If they say he's third-party tell them he's first-party as much as Mario, Samus, Donkey Kong, Link, Fox, Captain Falcon, Marth and more.

Interesting idea, but even if we get Shulk I feel the likelyhood of a second rep from Xenoblade is pretty low.

Shulk's got my support! I first heard of him from one of the earliest alleged SSB4 leaks—now debunked—where he was the only character I didn't recognize. I looked it up and was blown away at the music in that game. If tracks like "Time to Fight!", "Mechanical Rhythm" and of course "You Will Know Our Names" don't make it into SSB4, the absence will be conspicuous. Jarring, even!

It would be quite a hurdle to make Shulk playable with that match-winningly long sword, but Sakurai can do it.

How do you guys feel about a playable Metal Face if Shulk is confirmed?
Disappointed, mostly because Metal Face would be boss material and I would be livid if he got in but one of the other characters in my signature didn't.

If I really want a second Xenoblade rep, which chances of getting a second one are pretty low, it would be Reyn.

A second Xenoblade rep would be awesome! But not Metal Face,
Fiora
has much more potential.

Something about a playable resized Metal Face strikes me as something fun to play as. Maybe it's because the personality given to him. It would be equally as awesome as PTX-40A in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

I was wondering, did anyone ever complain about Ike or Lucario being too new for Brawl?

I know that Path of Radiance was released in 2005 and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were released in 2006 in Japan. The funny thing is that Path of Radiance was released 3 years before Brawl and Diamond and Pearl were released 2 years before Brawl. Xenoblade was released in Japan in 2010; that was 4 years ago and we are now getting SSB4.

I dunno why people have to make some stupid argument, of him being "too new," to not justify Shulk's appearance in Smash, especially when people had less time to warm up to Ike or Lucario possibly being in a Smash game.

Just spent some time making this. The obvious problem is the color, besides a few other touch ups. I just started out with photoshop so I'm having trouble making just the background a shade of red. I may go back to it at some point.

Yeah, it's just he is too big and there are better characters.

It would be interesting to have giant characters in Smash, but I'm not sure how you could make them work (and if they do it, it should be Kraid).

Never even considered a playable Metal Face. Always just thought he'd be awesome Boss Battles material. I never considered a second playable at all actually, but I think most of the playable characters have awesome AT potential. Reyn in particular could be a cool defensive AT as opposed to most that are either offensive or just straight up annoyances.

Metal Face is definitely boss material in my opinion. If you're talking about the secret behind Metal Face I might say otherwise.

Secret referring to Mumkhar

I would much prefer Melia as she lead my party primarily, though, that may be a little hard to work around. Dunban is someone who I think would be the most likely next addition because Seven would spoil some things about the games. I would love to use Blossom Dance. Anyone else other than Sharla would be nice additions as well.

There is a secret and small part of me that wants to see Reyn be playable. I dunno why. Maybe because I think that he could be interesting or because he was my favorite character in Xenoblade (I absolutely loved his character, mostly for his hilarity at times and his charisma). I would love it if he was an Assist Trophy… as long as he says "NOW IT'S REYN TIME!"

When I was playing Xenoblade, Shulk was always the first person in my party. I made Shulk very offensive and I relied on Shield for a majority of the time. I often had Reyn, Riki, and Sharla in my party, I sometimes had Dunban and Seven in my party, and I rarely had Melia in my party.

I neglected Riki, I think he got by far the least amount of time in my party. Typically I was always Shulk then I'd have Sharla and Reyn with me or Melia and Dunban. I liked to switch it up every so often. I think Seven replaced Reyn when I used her. I felt bad if I didn't give characters the proper screen time lol, except Riki. I didn't hate him or anything though. He had some funny moments

Giga Bowser in Project M is a good conception to start with.
It could work. The issue with Giga Bowser is he'd be broken in a 4 player battle. The opposite issue is that if he's not strong enough, how can he compare to the smaller faster characters. You'd have to have some flinch resistance.

The other this is how do you get the character to work on stages with platforms.

It's this kind of talk that makes me wish for some sort of Boss Smash mode where you could take control of Boss characters in a 1v1 or something >.>

Fixed it, now I feel accomplished for the day. A boss mode sounds cool but I don't know if I would enjoy it in Smash very much. Put the extra dev time towards more characters, balance, stages, mechanics, etc.

Let's all avoid spoilers, eh? I'm still working my way through the game. Just beat the Metal Face in Colony 6, so i'm not too far yet.

I would actually be really surprised if Sakurai didn't make Shulk a playable character. Not only because I can't think of a single good reason to exclude Shulk, but also because Nintendo would be missing a huge opportunity to promote the upcoming X, which aside from Smash 4 and Mario Kart 8, is probably one of the few last hopes for Wii U.

Well I don't know about that bleak look-out of the Wii U in general, but I do agree that promoting "X" via Shulk is a great way to get people thinking "hey, there's great JRPG's on this console" relatively early on in the system's life-span.

WIth how niche Xenoblade is and how big X is going to most likely be for the console, Shulk in Smash for representation of the upcoming game alone seems like enough to get him in. My bias is showing though

Well I think it'd be hard for any of us on the thread to hide the bias we have about this character, but...
I still think it makes sense. I don't think he's a shoo-in by any means, but his inclusion would be anything but stupid.

The inclusion will only be bad if it's handled poorly.
I suppose that's true. I'm glad Sakurai is aware of Xenoblade, but with how much of a workaholic he is, I doubt he's played it to completion, which is what I think one needs in order to put together a unique Shulk moveset.

He should consult Monolith Soft then.

From what I hear and I guess from what I've seen in the games, he does pretty good research on characters, but there is still that difference between having someone explain the moves to you and having 1st hand experience with them you know?

That's true but Sakurai has worked on a huge variety of characters and if he does his research I have faith he'll be able to do right by Shulk.

I'm pretty sure it's commonplace for him to reach out to devs on the characters he includes in smash, even a well versed gamer can't remember all details or information.

That seems to especially true of Shulk haha. Even us fans seem to struggle to put together more than a few potential movesets.

His moveset would be similar to other sword wielders sadly. The Monado abilities would have to be the basis, not so much the sword swinging.
I just want the entire soundtrack. I know it won't but there's too much good music to pass up. Anywhere could be a stage. I think it would be Guar Plains, but Eryth Sea or Sword Valley would be sick.

Music wise, as long as the music for Bionis Leg, You Will Know our Names, and maybe even One Who Gets in Our Way. That's good by itself even.

Maybe add the main track to The Last Story, and the final boss music to Pandora's Tower too.
