I would guess that X will be a part of the Xeno meta series, even if it isn't a sequel to Xenoblade.

It would still help Shulk, since the games would be under the same banner even if not directly related.

Im not agree with that, if X is not part of Xenoblade directly it means that it donts affect Shulk-SSB.

Whether X is a sequel to Xenoblade or not (I personally think that it is a sequel), this doesn't affect Shulk's chances.

Given other previous oddities characters in the past, the future prospects of the a character doesn't seem to generally necessarily impact a character on way or another.

I had the strangest idea for a Shulk Trailer at e3. You see he is atop Prison Island, as a letter falls to him. When he opens it, he sees a vision of Samas being hurt, mario going flying, and a huge explosion on the Pyrosphere. A portal then appears that sucks him in. Que to a few veterans being revealed, as gameplay of the pyrosphere appears in HD. Suddenly, Ridley appears as a playable character, and attacks Samus. Que video demonstrating Ridley. Then Shulk enters and saves the day. Que Shulk video. Finally, all the characters revealed at that point are transported to the Megaman trailer area, and the hill turns to dust. Then, Mewtwo is seen in his mega Form, and changes back to normal, showing it was him who teleported everyone there. Que hype.

Weird, but good, right.

Also, Shulk is to Japan as Rildey is to America. An uber Wanted character who is argued against stupidly/

Here's how to kill the arguments against Shulk.

If they say he's too new tell them to see Roy in Melee.

If they say he's not relevant tell them to see Xenoblade and X possibly being sequel to Xenoblade.

If they say he's too niche tell them to see Ness/Lucas.

By the way, the distance between first debut of Roy and Melee is really considerable, you could use better examples.

While Xenoblade seems to be a good game, i already stated that if X is not confirmed as part of Xenoblade, it donts affect Shulk possitively.
Besides Xenoblade debuted in 2010, that's a relatively old game for Nintendo for Sakurai to consider Shulk.
No, Pikmin is a relatively old game. We are in the decade in where Xenoblade was released, it have less than 5 years.

Well I guess wait until E3, we will know by then because if X turns out to be a sequel or even a prequel to Xenoblade they will probably reveal Shulk for SSB4 alongside it.

The way I see it, if X is a Xeno game.....that bolsters the presence of the Xeno series on Nintendo platforms.

That's the main reason why I think it would benefit Shulk even if X wasn't a sequel....because anyone can see that the two titles with "Xeno" at the start of their name have some kind of connection even if it's just a conceptual one.

Somebody (at least someone who hasn't played them) seeing these RPGs on Nintendo platforms would probably say "Isn't Shulk from those Xeno games?".

They wouldn't be directly connected but just by having "Xeno" at the start of their name, being RPGs and having similar styles/concepts they would be treated as the same franchise.

Shulk's blade should do slightly extra damage and knockback if it connects with an opponent's back as a mechanic rather than just with specific moves.

If Shulk has various mechanics based on his arts like the one you managed, I imagine Sakurai would have some time trying to properly balance everything with him. I like when people say Shulk should do extra damage to R.O.B

I see Shulk as an average character in most stats that must take advantage of his specials and perhaps a built-in mechanic to slay his way to victory.

This thread REALLY NEEDS MOVESETS! It's quite sad that after a year and a half there is pretty much nothing in the OP to show people what Shulk can do. Should probably be addressed as soon as possible especially because we still have a good amount of people that don't see much potential other than "another sword user". Is anybody working on one? I'll get to working on one over the weekend but it would be great if we could have more than one. A little insight on what the moveset may be like:

I plan on having some of the Monado Arts as specials while some of his normal moves will be based off of his physical arts. I'm also playing around with Shulk's Shadow Eye and his future sight to see how it can be used in his moveset to make him more unique. Also once I had the idea of a mechanic where originally physical arts would be his special moves and by filling up a hidden gauge (which would be accomplished by stringing combos on opponents) he would be able to use his more powerful Monado Arts in place of the special moves but I found it too complicated. However, if I find a way to make it work it will most likely be the moveset I go with.

I agree. I keep saying I will make one and I have yet to do so. I really want to just replay the game though but it isn't exactly college friendly. It will consume my life. If there is a Nintendo Direct soon like many people are guessing, I bet X will show up in it, wait maybe not. I'm not sure

The problem with Shulk movesets are either they use monado arts as special moves or use monado arts as final smashes and arts as specials. I haven't seen a real deviation from this. But if you have a moveset you want in the OP, send it my way.

Same thing if you want to be a supporter. Send me a message.

Not that it really matters, considering the same logic can easily be applied to Ike, King Dedede, Samus, Link, etc. since they don't kick or punch either in canon works.

Oh my god. The Bionis's Interior is literally a punch in the gut for me! I'm currently at level 71, what level should I even be at? Also, what level is the boss of this area? (don't tell me who it is, tell me what level they are)

I played a while back so I don't really remember levels, but I think you're higher than I was when I went through that area. Actually I recall having to grind right before the boss. Great part of the game though

I am higher leveled than you were? Wow, I can't imagine what the bosses before were like for you. Yeah, I am really getting into a great part of the plot, but this area with these levels kinda overwhelm me.

The boss is at level 75 and pretty much the hardest boss in the game! (Well I was at a lower level than you are, so it might be easier for you..)

Well… that just dampened my confidence. I'll train until I get to level 75 as well.

Thanks for the help!

Shulk
Shulk has average stats except for his incredible range. His range combined with his Backstab Mechanic and special techniques can allow him to keep his opponents away while racking up enough damage for the finishing blow.

Mechanic Backstab: If the blade of his sword connects the back of an opponent, extra damage is given.

Basics
A: Diagonal slash downwards
A,A: Diagonal slash downwards, followed by a diagonal slash upwards
A,A,A: Diagonal slash downwards, followed by a diagonal slash upwards, and then slides backwards a distance

Running A: Shulk does a baseball slide while holding his blade upwards. His slide hits enemies into the blade.
Toward A: Pulls back elbow and then stabs forward; a little slow but great range
Up A: A fist pump while holding his sword upward
Down A: While crouched sweeps his sword in front of him once and then back again in a quick manner

Forward Smash: Twists his body, holding the Monado behind him as if going to bat and then swings forward and up while doing a little hop
Up Smash: Does a back flip while holding out his sword. Covers from front to back; massive range
Down Smash: The energy blade turns yellow as he plunges it into the ground. Creates a dome of yellow polygons briefly around his body which pushes away enemies before shattering for splash damage. Invincible frames for several frames while the shield is up.

Aerials
Neutral A: With the hilt at his side, revolves his sword at his side so it is a spinning blue circle that does multiple damage. Lag afterwards.
Forward A: Slashes forward and up for vertical knockback.
Up A: Faces the screen and does a backflip while holding out his sword. Sword range shortens but does good knockback.
Back A: Thrusts his sword behind him for good damage and knockback. Slower startup.
Down A: Positions the hilt on his shoulder before doing a massive sweep underneath him. Awesome range with little knockback and stun.

Specials
B Monado Buster: The Monado extends a great distance (B can be held to extend even further before releasing) while energy crackles around it and then is brought over Shulk's head and slammed into the floor.

*This attack does no stun or knockback, but adds on damage. Similar to Fox's laser. Able to tack on damage while utilizing great range.

Toward B Speed: Shulk zooms the length of C. Falcon's Raptor Boost, arms to the side and sword held back.

If he connects with an opponent's front-side, he goes behind them and performs a backstab.
If he connects with an opponent's backside, he plunges his blade forward.

Down B Shadow Eye: The Monado energy blade turns dark before Shulk slashes it horizontally. Fast attack with low range. This marks the opponent with a red eye that fades and leaves a dark aura. Any attacks on the opponent by Shulk will deal no damage, but have bonus knockback.

Down B will turn off the aura. Good for trying to land the finishing blow or go in for an edge-guarding strategy.

Up B Cyclone (ground):
Spins in a circle with blade held out, a circular wind emitting from his sword which revolves the opponent around Shulk before tossing them away their back always facing the swordsman.

Up B Cyclone (air): Does a quick spin with a smaller cyclone that pushes opponent's away and launches Shulk like a missile as his body twirls really fast, sword tucked at side. Can be aimed anywhere above Shulk.

Throws
Pummel: Smashes hilt in opponent's face
Forward Throw: Spins enemy around and kicks them forward
Back Throw: Flings enemy backwards a short distance
Up Throw: Rotates the Monado behind his own body and then upwards in an incomplete circle knocking the enemy vertical
Down Throw: Leaps off opponent's head and comes crashing back down with his blade to pop them up in the air. Most damaging throw.

Actually, I was probably the same level as the boss then. I'd occasionally have to grind a level or two to beat some bosses, but I always fully explored every area and fought almost all of the enemies. I didn't have too much trouble overall but some bosses were brutal. I enjoy lots of difficulty in games, so intense, and most of the time more fun. I could have done more side quests on my first play through. The problem for me was that I became to invested in what would happen next in the plot instead of helping the hundreds of NPCs that wanted x,y, and z of such and such from me. I may go for 100% on my next play through. Can't wait to jump back in over the summer.

Interesting moveset. I'm still not sure about the bonus damage to player's backs. What is your idea for a final smash? Has to be something with visions. Overall, I'd say that's a unique move set, especially because of the whole bonus knock back no damage aspect. Wonder if Sakurai would ever implement something like that in Smash

Thanks. I never bother with Final Smashes in movesets. I do agree Shulk's Vision should be incorporated somehow since it is an important part of the Monado.

* Shulk could go into his vision stance with the blue eyes, the stage turns dark with a faded blue-hued Victory Screen with him as the victor could appear in the background. And then the percentages switch. Shulk gets the lowest percentage and the player with the lowest percentage gets the highest.

Grinding inside the Bionis' Interior was pretty tedious. Instead, you can grind in the area of Bionis' Leg near Windy Cave with a lot of Gogols, Caterpiles, and Vangs where they're all level 70 and up. It's much easier and more fun.

They will probably give him a move similar to Lucario's Double Team.

This guy predicts that Shulk will be shown next Thurs on Jan 30th as the next newcomer in Smash Bros. Personally I do not believe it, but I felt it was worth posting in this thread outside of the rumor discussion. New X gameplay is a more likely assumption in the next direct, whenever that will be.

Edit: Now he claimed X is closer to a Xenoblade 2 and the Smash stage for Xenoblade will be Raguel Bridge. How memorable considering most people would view that as the new Bridge of Eldin.

If Shulk is revealed this Thursday, I will probably **** myself from the excitement. But I'm not entirely sure I trust that leak.

I can imagine what Iwata would say and what would happen during Shulk's trailer.
"Our final announcement comes from our colleagues from Monolith Soft and a project they are working on. But first, they want to show you some special footage that they just received. Please take a look."
We see Shulk standing in the Gaur Plains, looking at the Mechonis. Then Shulk has a vision of an odd group of monsters attacking Colony 9. Shulk rushes towards Colony 9 to see that Bowser and his minions are attacking his home. Shulk then quickly and effortlessly defeats Bowser and he gets into a pose with the text saying, "Shulk envisions the battle!"
Oh, and of course, this theme plays when that happens. We see some gameplay footage of Shulk using various Monado Arts like Shield and Cyclone and his other Arts like Back Slash and Air Slash.
Near the end, we see Shulk fighting Donkey Kong, Luigi, and King Dedede. The music slightly lowers when he has a vision of getting sent flying by Donkey Kong's Giant Punch, then getting flung higher into the air by Luigi's Super Jump Punch, and finally King Dedede smashing him downward with his Super Dedede Jump. After he sees these visions, Shulk dodges Donkey Kong's attack, slashes Luigi away, and completely dodges King Dedede and attacks him with a Back Slash. After that, Shulk says, "Behold the power of the Monado!"
The SSB4 logo then comes up and the trailer ends with Shulk putting away the Monado saying, "That was too easy."
Afterwards, we see Iwata presenting another trailer for X.

You left out the part where everyone rushes to Gamestop to buy the rest of the over priced "used" Xenoblade stock.

For Shulk to be revealed on the 30th would be literally my favorite thing about this game so far, but yeah... There isn't a single part of me that believes that leak is legit.

That moveset was pretty cool, though I think there's probably better ways to incorporate some of his Monado arts. Still, probably the best one I've seen apart from a collaborative one some people did on GFaqs a LONG time ago.
