By the way, the reason why every character has a British accent is because the English version was dubbed in the UK. In fact, the North American version is basically a direct port of the UK version. Hence the inconsistent title, the UK spelling (like mum and colour), the copyright is unchanged, and so on.

Quest hell... in a good way?
The game has a lot of quest. A good amount of them are "Kill X enemy," Collect X item." As you're in an area more, they develop more and that are related to the characters in that town. They will also expand to outside of the town from time. A tip: Save all the enemy items if you can. You'll actually make more money off the quest anyway.

You're gonna need to do quests to build up affinity for the area. It's a bit of a pain, but affinities allow you to access certain skill trees and an arte.

I think that Shulk is one of the more underrated candidates for Smash 4.
Shulk is part of an up-and-coming Nintendo IP, has tons of popularity in Japan, and has a lot of potential to be unique with that big hulking sword of his.
I definitely support, one of my most wanted newcomers.

They are half-priced on Gamestop right now, make sure you get them. (If you don't have them)
My continued thoughts will be here:
-Shulk's voice is European O-o
-The music so far is reminding alot of KH Music.
-Man it takes alot to kill a bunnie. XD
-Leveling up feels alot worth it considering you get alot of HP. XD
-This place gigantic, so much exploration O_O_O
-The Monado can't hit people, so Shulk is unable to fight. :awesome:

I don't think anyone pointed this out yet, but the music is actually composed by the same person who does the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks.

I feel that Shulk is indeed underrated and has a fairly decent shot if we're looking at series that don't have representation. Not to pull out the relevance card, but Xenoblade and "X" are obviously similar to one another, and I think it's fair to say that Nintendo will be putting focus onto the series at some point or another.

Shulk would easily be a unique fighter compared to other candidates, and for those people who say "BUT HE'D ONLY GET IN BECAUSE RECENT HURR DURR" STFU. Shulk has a hell of a lot more going for him than that. Plus, Smash can't just not put in characters from new series. That's just asinine.

I've personally always worried about this. If Shulk were to make it into Smash, would Nintendo even bother to get Adam Howden to reprise his role? The voice work would probably be Nintendo of America's job and, unfortunately, it seems more likely to me that they would rather go for someone local.

The soundtrack is actually a combination of Yoko Shimomura and five others. This article talks about the whole team. As an aside, I like her contributions, but most of my absolute favorite tracks in the game aren't her work. This, for example, is actually from ACE+.

Couldn't they simply use the work he did in Xenoblade?

I can't imagine a different voice screaming FFFFIOOOOOOOOORRAAAAAAAAAA

I'm really glad that this thread is booming in activity recently, it gives me hopes for Shulk's chances. That being said, I know for sure that he is not a guarantee, but I still have hopes.

I don't think they could. There are probably legal issues, but I don't know much about this so don't take what I'm saying very seriously.

Yeah obviously they would've to pay him for the rights, which would be pretty simple to do and probably less expensive than remake all the work.

I would think they would want original recordings for a Smash game. I just think it would make more sense even if it means the extra money.

Yeah well, if the price for seeing Shulk playable is his voice to be different, so be it. I won't cry a river over it.

I don't think it's an issue. Based on the fact that the game releases worldwide, I don't see why they wouldn't have the original voice actor for Shulk do his magic.

It's not like they replaced Snake's voice with somebody else. I wouldn't doubt that Shulk's voice actor would be on board considering it's Smash Bros. Who wouldn't want in on that?

I'm not sure if it's a huge deal using pre recorded samples based on the fact that Xenoblade is a first party title, therefore being Nintendo property.

Shulk's inclusion will not depend on his voice or anything. He's got everything going for him. It's up to Sakurai to pick him. I think he's got a pretty good shot.

Don't know, but one thing for sure is that there is a lot more to talk about Shulk then there is for bloody Chrom or Lucina.

For sure. As much as I like Corn, Squash has a lot more going for him in that he has a different...flavor to his swordplay :troll:

So I decided to start listening to the soundtrack of Xenoblade since I don't own it (nor a Wii, for that matter). I just listened to the Main Menu theme.

HOLY. CRAP.

I really want to play this all the more now.

I love the voice acting in Xenoblade and don't understand some of the backlash towards it. I really hope Shulk retains his same voice…it would just seem so off. It's like if Pit doesn't have his uprising voice actor in smash 4, it just wouldn't seem right after experiencing their games for hours on end.

Regarding Skull Kid's confirmation as a Assist Trophy, I was wondering if we would be very upset if Shulk becomes another one.

I would, personally.

I'd be majorly bummed. Skull Kid makes sense as an assist trophy as he's a popular character but was only the villain for one game and his main gimmick would be hard to make a moveset out of. Shulk is a recent main character with lots of good move potential. And we may have a few swordsmen but giant glowey sword is still a new spin.

I mean as I've said several times before, I'll be getting the games simply because Smash Bros. is probably my favorite series of all time. But there is a misconception among people on here that apparently, recency automically = bad character with no merit behind their inclusion.

Adding only older characters is an overall boring concept and in my own opinion is detrimental to the purpose of the game.

Based on a number of things, Shulk would be a great choice.

First, his game is getting a sequel. If you haven't watched the trailers, the gameplay is basically the same besides the fact that the player can use a giant Mech to walk around. Pretty awesome.

Second, new, Wii Generation critically acclaimed game. It was a definite interest of Nintendo to get Xenoblade localized.

Third, I don't know what anybody elses opinions are, but a blonde haired RPG swordsmen with a giant glowing sword is a hell of a lot more hype inducing than a twirling star fish. I'm referring to Starfy.

I mean really. I'd wager that most fans would be more interested in seeing what Shulk could do as opposed to a starfish.

I probably sound biased, and I pretty much am. But I just don't see the advantage to adding Starfy to Smash Bros as playable. He's like Skull Kid. Popular, but doesn't really have much to him other than being an Assist Trophy.

Miis are a stupid choice for a character and I detest the idea of them being playable. Plain and simple. They have no appeal to them other than a customization gimmick which I do not think is enough to automatically give them a spot.

Itt's not a make or break for me and neither will Shulk's possible absence. I'll still be very sad about both, but I've felt the same about Mega Man's absence in Brawl. Definitely not make or break, but I'll be highly disapointed.

I'd also be extremely disappointed if Shulk became an AT. I wanted Skull Kid to be playable, but I knew his chances were abysmal. He does look awesome and I'm glad he managed this much representation. Anyway, if people prefer a Mii over Shulk then… -__- I don't even know. Miiverse posts tend to be the most uninformed gamers when it comes to Smash. Can't believe they thought today was a reveal.

Do you guys think there's any chance of Shulk being revealed in a smash trailer at VGX tomorrow?

Don't take it too hard, Miiverse has terrible taste. It's hard for a niche character to compete with one that dominates all of Nintendo's consoles.

There's a chance. But it's a pretty tiny one.

I'm currently doubting the prospective of Shulk being regulated to a simply Assist Trophy, mainly because there really isn't anything out there that supports the idea to begin with. It's not something like, say, Isaac or Starfy where a previous status quo is a bit of a stigma. Considering the current status of how things are being played out, I'm leaning more towards a playable role until we actually get something that rejects that prospect.

Also I'm not really worried about Shulk coming from a niche game, in fact half of the roster to begin with is like that already. So it's not really bending any rules so to speak. I also don't believe in the fan made belief that a series is too new and as such shouldn't come in.

Down B Vision: Shulk's eyes glow blue and he holds his forehead for a second. When hit in the first few frames, the damage is negated and the opponent rewinds (the enemy does the attack in reverse as if rewinding the action). This puts the enemy back in the range of the Monado.
