spoilers towards the end of the game

Goddamn Lorithia... I'm at level 73 with everyone and I simply can't beat her. And I thought Gadolt was hard... I read a strategy which uses Melia but she sucks too much. I managed to take away 80% of her energy tops... What the hell happened all of a sudden in this game it became so annoyingly frustrating... It seems such a waste though to abandon it, I've spend 46 hours for now on it... I guess I'll have to grind a little bit, and I HATE GRINDING. It's simply the opposite of fun it should be illegal. Any suggestion lol?

Against Lorithia, I think I used Shulk, Melia, and I think Sharla. Melia will be helpful against the light glob thingy's.

You HAVE to use Melia for that fight. The only other character you might be able to get away with is Riki. The issue is you need ether attacks and those two are the best for it. Fiora might be able to speck into it but I'm not sure. Here are things you need to keep in mind
  1. She works like this: You summon an element and use your talent art to release it. In chain attacks, it works like every other talent art
  2. They stack.. Two lightings makes you have more ether. Having three and summoning one is her nuke
  3. Summon copy is amazing. use it
  4. She can topple just about everything (including this boss) with spear break/starlight kick
For this fight, kill the nebulas. It's easy with her. After that, fight the boss and kill the nebulas if they come back. She is only hard if you are not using an ether character. I would have on Melia Thunder, copy, spear break/star light kick and some other elements. Mind Blast is good too. When the fight starts, do tunder + copy. Then summon the other elements (ice, fire, earth ect) and launch them. They do aoe damamge which helps to kill those things faster. Then, focus all your energy on the boss. Use spear break/starlight kick when you can. You can launch all your thunders at once for damamge. It is best to use the first too lightings when you have lightning off of cooldown. Use all of them when lightning and summon copy are off cooldown. If you have hypnosis, it might help for visions. Just rinse and repeat.
Dunban and Sharla are good partners for this. Helps keep Melia alive. If you are ever worried about dying, save your party gauge. Riki can work if you know what your doing. Just do the same for Melia but use his DOTs instead. It will be harder than just using Melia.

Thanks for the tips, I tried with Melia, Riki and Sharla a couple of hours ago and I almost killed her, following kinda the same strategy. I used Summon Flare and Ice mostly though, do you think Thunder is better? I also used Reflection a lot to protect me a bit, I don't know though how much is actually helpful. I didn't used attacks to topple her, if I remember right Starlight Kick should be the stronger one, while Spear Break kinda sucks (and I don't think it's a topple move). I don't know exactly how to fill the party gauge. I think Riki has a move for that, but I don't remember if I had enabled it. I'll remember that next time.
Anyway I tried three or four times, and in all of them I was going quite well, when all of a sudden she simply killed us in two moves, like in 10 seconds... It's very annoying. It doesn't help that I almost never used Melia (I mostly go with Shulk/Sharla/Riki), so I don't know her moves that well. Also, Hypnotize never works on her. Don't know if I'm doing it wrong.

You may just have to grind... I gained a few levels before I could beat that boss and I thought I was at the right level going into it. I think I was a level or two higher than you when I beat it

Starlight Kick only topples when Spear Break was used right before it. I believe my set-up was Summon Ice, Earth, Fire, Lightning, Copy, Mind Blast, Spear Break, and Starlight Kick. Dealing as much AOE damage will be handy taking out Wisps quickly.

Another thing is that each Wisp she summons gives her some buff and killing each wisp will temporarily disable that buff. And at this point you should know by now that these Wisps are hard to take down with physical attacks.

OK, so you know how you can hold 3 elements right? Well, when you hold one, you get a stat boost to you entire party (water does regen). Let's take Fire. Fire increases your strength, so when you have one fire, everyone's strength goes up. If you have two fires, strength goes up more. It's greater again with 3. If you have two firers and an earth, you increase your strength and your defense. Now lighting increases your ether which increases the power of Melia, Rki and Sharla's abilities. When you have two lightings, it increases it further. Three increases it more. So here is what you should do in the beginning, in order
  1. Summon lighting
  2. Summon copy
  3. Summon fire
  4. Release (talent art)
  5. Summon Ice
  6. Release (talent art)
  7. Summon Eath
  8. Release (talent art)
  9. Summon lighting
  10. Release (talent art)
By doing this, you not only help Sharla and Riki (because of the first two lightings increasing ether) but your summoned elements do more damage. If you have three lighting, it does a lot of damage (due to the ether buff). This is how you should be doing it. You can release all three if you want, but I would only do it if both summon lighting and summon copy are off of cooldown. After blowing all the lightnings, do:
  1. Summon lighting
  2. Summon copy
This gives you two which gives you back your buff. The elements can be whatever you though you want at least lighting and summon. The rest all work OK though water does less damage and heals you instead.
To topple, you need to do spear break first and then starlight kick. You need both. Reflection is very good. Here is a good guide for Melia. I would not do chain attacks like he does though. For Riki, you will need burninate, freezinate, and lurgy. These are ether moves that do DOT.

Long time no see guys, huh ?

I don't know if it was asked before, but I wonder what could be Shulk (and/or another Xenoblade-related character)'s victory theme.

I guess it would be a short version of the Main Theme like they did with Fire Emblem's one and Zelda's one (in 64 and Melee) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNR-wsFAfiU

Or the tune you hear after having discovered a secret area : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wryI07kDr6k (:awesome:)

Other ideas ?
Funny how the only comment on the secret area tune is a guy saying this game's winner is ...Shulk!

That would be fitting to have, but I'd rather them do a shorter version of one theme or something like you stated with Fire Emblem. Now the real question is what part would it specifically be? Xenoblade has amazing music, hope X at least lives up to it. The trailer songs are great so far.

Come on man, you were at the very end. You could have stuck it out for a bit more.

I recommend playing it again. I didn't quest the first time and did it the second time. It is great to see Colony 6 all complete.

Lol I know... Does the game change if you complete quests? What do you mean by "seeing Colony 6 all complete"? Does, like, the world change? The locations around you? I don't get it.

You can rebuild Colony 6 and it becomes pretty sweet as you do it.

I was surprised how well that whole rebuilding system worked out as well as how satifying it felt to make progress when expanding the Colony. I have a friend who always looks things up when he gets stuck and he may have only be stuck for a small period of time. That always bothered me. It would be rad if in X there were some sort of customization or building features with an entire landscape and or town again, but on a grander scale.

I feel like if Shulk is in then that song will be guaranteed to play on a stage, definitely one of my favorites in the game. It just never seems to get old no matter how many unique monsters you fight

The battle music overall is really good. There are a ton of good tracks. The one you posted works so well for Smash. I'll have to make sure it's on the OP.

Sadly, there hasn't been much talk about Shulk. Wonder what happened.

EDIT: Since we're on the topic of music, what's everyone's favorite song from the game?

That secret theme is a real good idea. Geez I haven't played it in so long...
Something from Guar plains would probs work for victory theme too. Oh man thats getting me thinking... so many possibilities...

I think the victory theme would be a speed up version of the main theme. Which is another though. How could they get the main theme to work in the game. It will have to be faster for sure. I guess take that and add more instruments (drums probably) to give it more of a beat.

As far as music goes, I really liked You Will Know Our Names and the theme to the Bionis Leg. Definitely my favorites.

I actually also like the theme for the Hidden Machina Village.

Btw, can we get some arguments and counterarguments for Shulk up in here ? I defended him against Noah in the Roster Discussion Thread when compared to Skull Kid as far as his "one shot" possibilities.

My friend was telling me about this 7 year old girl he met at the camp he works at and she has beaten Xenoblade. One of the camp activities was role playing and they decided to reenact different scenes from the game, he was Shulk and she was Reyn. I need to meet this girl and give her a medal.

You mean something along the lines of the song Prologue B? That song has parts of it taken from the main theme, obviously made more intense.

TBH I don't actually like most of the battle themes that much. I mean, they do what they're supposed to, but I don't wanna listen to them over and over.

Satorl Marsh (Night), Mechonis Field and Gaur Plains are the best ones imo. Satorl Marsh theme probably wouldn't fit very well in Smash though... although I suppose Satorl Marsh at night would make a pretty cool stage.

Honestly, I never noticed. It's one of those songs I skipped over. Listening to it now and it's pretty good.

Sure we can. For starters, can you link me to your debate.

Well that debate wasn't really prolonged or anything. It was just a comment that Shulk is a one shot, and then I shot that argument down with the fact that Skull Kid is irrelevant to Zelda right now, and isn't nearly as iconic as people make him out to be.

For Shulk in this case, his game spurred a new series, and while he may not appear, that doesn't mean he can't get into Smash. He could basically be the Marth of said series. We don't even know if he isn't going to appear or not.

If I had one vote for every time someone says "Monado" in Xenoblade, I could single-handedly vote Shulk out of having a chance to get in Smash Bros.

Any song from that game could honestly be in it. It's all so good. Dissapointing some of the calmer ones won't be in simply because they're not intense music.

Yes I know I got the color of the pants wrong, but the Red Shorts surprisingly don't fit too well compared to the Samurai Pants.

I havent been here in a few days and I feel like I missed a bunch... Some of my favorite songs that I believe were not mentioned would have to be tragic decision and engage the enemy. Both fit their situations perfectly when they are utilized and I can see them being implemented in smash. Personally I thought the Shulk ratings would have spurred more interest in this thread. Wish I could have been around to make some points against people. Arguments and counter arguments sound like a great idea. I'll pitch in at some point. I really doubt Shulk is one shot, plus Shulk and Skull Kid are on completely different levels as previously stated and this is coming from a Skull Kid fan who loves Majora's Mask. Randomly jumping back here but what if part of engage the enemy was Shulk's victory theme? The full song can still be used on stages though :)

On the arguments, I don't remember a ton against him. Most people believe he has a good shot and is only really held back by his game be obscure (partly due to limited releases).

And Engage the Enemy is an awesome some. Good job foolssigma. 10 points for Gryffindor.

Pretty much the only counterargument I could even think of is that Shulk's game is very recent , which depending on your perspective might lessen his chance of inclusion or render him less deserving of inclusion.

All round, though, you really can't muster much of an argument against him. His game is good, his game is popular, and he has plenty of fan support for inclusion.

After reading the Chrono Japanese Analysis thread, I was pleased to see Shulk was so popular overseas too. I hate hearing the "negative" of Shulk being a "typical JRPG character." That complaint coupled with the sword user ones are just ridiculous. I've heard it mentioned before, but a rerelease would be a great idea in terms of gaining recognition as well as providing easier accessibility for the game. I dont think the one shot argument applies due to X being strongly linked. I also find it difficult to make strong counters against Shulk, though I admit I am biased. With that being said, Shulk has a plethora of positives going for him.

If, for some crazy reason, Xenoblade had two characters added, who would you like to see be the second one?

I'm personally, a fan of Dunban.
Either Riki or I guess thinking about it now "Seven" would be a better choice. (Riki would be really fun though...can we have three please? :p)

Riki would make a cool assist trophy.

To speak generally, if there is any Nintendo game that deserves a rep based on one game alone it's Xenoblade Chronicles. If they don't at the very least take advantage of the games beauty and give us a stage and music I'll be flabbergasted.

(Not to mention Monolith Soft themselves deserve a rep)

The one shot argument never held any weight. A lot of characters are shot shots. For example: Ice Climbers, Sheik, Lucas, Ness, Pit (in Japan).

One thing they could do is have Dunban be the assist and sometimes, when he comes out, Riki knocks him out of the way and takes his place.

I forgot about all of those counter examples in the current roster. People tend to just say whatever supports their opinions and neglect that sort of information. Wonder if the new smash will have a new form of assist or item in terms of other characters or summons along the lines of pokeballs and assist trophies, though I can't really think of much they can add in that area.

Here's a brawl hack I found of Shulk and Sharla fighting in a free for all. Had trouble finding much else on Xenoblade regarding hacks
