That actually sounds like it would be a great place to work.
It really is:

"
That may seem like a lot of work for a small studio consisting of about 30 members, but the office atmosphere is reportedly very laid-back. The Kyoto studio’s work hours start at 9 am and end at 6 pm. Any overtime work is not accepted without permission from superiors, but when employees do work overtime, they are paid for it, which is a rare occurrence in Japan.

Additionally, employees aren’t allowed to take any work home either, but they are allowed to use office tools and material for personal training purposes within the company until 9pm.

“One of the big opportunities that put the appointed weekly hours into action came from the 2006 occupational safety and health act revision, which demanded a more thorough employee time management,” says director Yasuyuki Honne. He further shares his beliefs that development styles which anticipate overtime work have already reached their limit. With that in mind, Monolift Soft’s company motto, “Zero overtime and creative work allowed” is what they now go by."

You know, based on their games, I'm surprised one of their requirements for hiring wasn't "doctorate in philosophy/has extensively studied Nietzsche and/or Gnosticism."

Even better news guys, Nintendo has given Monolith Soft some Morale to work together as a single unit and family.

"
It’s been a little over a year since the developers of Xenoblade Chronicles, Monolith Soft, opened a new studio in Kyoto to be closer to parent company, Nintendo. In a recent internal interview, they talked about their experience thus far, and what they’ve learned about working together as a team.

We’ve previously reported that Monolith Soft were recruiting members to join their team, which is still going on. Director, Yasuyuki Honne, has made it his mission to massively increase the amount of personnel at Monolith Soft. The main talent they’re currently looking for are designers with skills in 3DCG, effects and motion.

Additionally, since working alongside Nintendo, Monolith Soft have realized just how important it is for a team to work closely together, they say.

Over the course of the year, the number of meetings between Nintendo and Monolith Soft has increased greatly. Nintendo have been actively consulting on their work and providing feedback with tweaks and ideas on how to make things better.

Monolith Soft say they’re amazed by Nintendo’s ability to work and think together as a team, and believe it’s a major asset to producing quality products. From a developer’s standpoint, seeing how Nintendo communicate and their companionship as the foundation of their hard work, has inspired Monolith Soft to do the same with their studio.

Designer, Shoko Fukuchi, mentions making people feel included by—for example—asking programmers, who aren’t often in talks with designers, for ideas.

Monolith say that the concerns some of the staff had about the idea of moving to Kyoto is now a thing of the past, as they’re quite cozy at their new studio. Having taken a page from Nintendo’s book, Monolith Soft have been livelier than ever. With a new outlook, they’ve been working closer together—not only as co-workers, but as a family with the common goal of developing great games."

It's the same problem most companies have with new IPs and the like. It's the fact that most people don't know what they want. We clamour for new IPs and new things, yet due to the risk with a new IP people are hesitate to buy them when they're made available.

From what I can gather, Monolith Soft has a total of 123 members with three different studios: two at Tokyo and one at Kyoto.

Their Tokyo studio has a console and a handheld division. The handheld team just got done with Project X Zone while the console team is working on Xenoblade X. That teaser picture could mean they're still hiring programmers so they can work on the untitled 3DS game. They also hired more people for their Xenoblade team as well.

The Kyoto studio that's working alongside Nintendo has 30 members, which means there are 93 or so members at the Tokyo building. At the moment, the Kyoto studio might be helping out with SSB4 and the new Zelda for Wii U since they've worked on Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and A Link Between Worlds. They've also worked on Brawl and Skyward Sword when they were still on the Tokyo team before forming their own studio in Kyoto.

Sorry for going off like that guys...just hearing what was talked about jogged my memory from stuff that I learned while in between classes at College during the beginning of my Semester this January. :ohwell:

Edit: Plus, I did not know if this was the right place to post the information. I was contemplating whether or not to reveal this information since last Fall, in September when I first got involved with the Shulk for SSB4 Support Thread.

Quick question. Would it be off topic if I was able to find and post legal and licensing information regarding Baten Kaitos?
Basically stuff like who owns the rights to it and what not.

That first paragraph tells me that the ownership rights must be kinda difficult to find out.
It is not really. There is a website that tells you all about ownerships, licensing, and other legal stuff.

Edit: I got it ready on stand by if anybody wants to know.

So, since we are talking about Monolithsoft....do you think if Shulk gets in we might get some minor representation from another Monolithsoft developed Nintendo IP? Talking about Soma Bringer (DS game,) maybe we could get a song, it has a great sound track.

We could, but I think it would only be:

1) An Assist Trophy

2) Sticker

or

3)Trophy

Edit: If anybody is interested in Baten Kaitos legal info, just send me a PM.

If we're talking about who owns the franchise, then I believe Bandai Namco owns Baten Kaitos. Nintendo can license it to their platform like they're doing with Bayonetta 2 and Devil's Third.

I know personally, i've wanted Shulk in Smash for a while, but it didn't hit me until last night what that actually MEANS. Shulk standing besides Mario. MARIO! Mr. Video Game himself! And Shulk fighting Link, Samus, Kirby, and all of these other gaming icons! I mean, honestly, how many of you have ACTUALLY CONSIDERED what being in Smash means for Shulk? Not just movesets or content from Xenoblade, i mean just look at what Smash did for Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus! Shulk being in this game is going to be HUGE. AND I CAN'T WAIT!!

Well...I don't know all about legal stuff, but Bandai Namco's Trademark Registration expired: 28/01/2013

Trademarkia is the largest search engine for U.S. and CTM trademarks. Each month hundreds of trademarks around the world are filed by licensed attorneys in the Trademarkia network! I just found a better legitimate site to look for Trademarks.

This looks like a trusted site right?

What the heck, I will post again anyway.

It has been brought to my attention that .gov sites are legit. (I feel stupid after realizing this)

Here is hardcore Government Fact that Shulk is a First Party Nintendo Character:

http://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=77749675&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch

Nintendo filed this case on:
Jun. 05, 2009 NEW APPLICATION ENTERED IN TRAM

The File was accepted and Assigned to Nintendo on:

Aug. 14, 2009 ASSIGNED TO EXAMINER77782

Current Owner(s) Information
Owner Name:
Nintendo of America Inc.
Owner Address:
4600 150th Avenue NE
Redmond, WASHINGTON 98052
UNITED STATES
Legal Entity Type:
CORPORATION
State or Country Where Organized:
WASHINGTON

Xenoblade Chronicles was released in Japan on June 10, 2010

So we have Government Documented proof that Shulk is a first Party Nintendo character.

I bet all my money that they are helping with Zelda U. More specifically, the overworld.
Nobody can make an overworld as good as Monolith Soft can, that is for sure.

Edit: If anybody can find the US Serial Number for Baten Kaitos I can find the Governmental legal documents and other things to see where they stand currently.

Same goes for Soma Bringer.

P.S. The numbers will have this many numbers on them: 77749675 (they should at least)

Thank you for the information.

Baiten Kaitos: Bandai Namco still owns Baiten Kaitos, they renewed their rights to the genre recently.

Jun. 04, 2014AUTOMATIC UPDATE OF ASSIGNMENT OF OWNERSHIP

Owner Address:
4-5-15 HIGASHI SHINAGAWA, SHINAGAWA-KU

Sadly, it looks like the ball is in Bandai Namco's court on what is done with Baiten Kaitos, for those that wanted Nintendo and Monolith Soft to own it.
Bandai Namco also plans on doing something with Baiten Kaitos, if the documents are to say anything:

Nintendo also plans to use the Last Story:

To change either an actual Power of Attorney or Appointment of Domestic Representative, use the Revocation of Attorney/Domestic Representative and/or Appointment of Attorney/Domestic Representative form. To change the physical address of the applicant or owner, use the Change of Owner's Address form.

However there is more to this action:

Sorry Spazzy, I am not sure about Soma Bringer and could not find information related to that game.

I hope this answered your question.

Does anybody else have any questions pertaining to their favorite video game genre? All I need are the US Serial Numbers.
