This is a true showing of the meta moving forward.
I can assume none of us feel Jiggs is such a hard MU now, with the new nair and upsmash actually being a bit more useful we have more tools outside of the bair to catch her in the air.

I'm relativly new to the smash scene, I've been competing for under a year, but I've been watching for much longer then that.
With us Flacos being a pretty small bunch, I can't get a whole lotta training beucase i'm the only falco at my local tournaments. But I know that there are plenty of falcos way better then mine.

So with that said I want you better falcos to rate my falco!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJSzmZVR5Kk

Here is my first on stream tourney match, and i'd say I played it pretty well.

Though its worth mentioning that I was REALLY REALLY nervous during the match and my oppenent wasen't that good,
so it might not be the best example of my skill.
But please, rate away, I need help improving and I know you guys out there are really good!

So please ~rate my bird!~
Good stuff mate!

First things first though, rolling into Ganon about 90% of the time is a no no.
You gave him some really easy punishes and stage control. I had this issue myself a while back just know that rolling into your opponent is usually not good.

-Work on those edgeguard options.
Falco has some of the best edgeguarding tools in the game between fair and bair. Once you get comfortable with going offstage, it's easy.

-Also remember to use other throws!
Back throw is pretty good in certain situations, specifically if you throw your opponent offstage.
I saw you used dthrow but only linked it into upsmash, dthrow > RAR bair is a great option along with dthrow > nair > nair

Keep practicing, congrats on your win.

Merged your thread with the video thread which can be used for critiques, but not a lot of people do. :p

Falco Vs Marth Best out of 7. Gonna try to upload a different set everyday. Tomorrow aka today since it's 4AM by me I'll do ZSS! Should be fun. Be sure to subscribe to see my other content I haven't posted on here.

https://youtu.be/NtofLVKgrcs

I'd like an evaluation on Falco as well. Here's how I play:

VS Fox

Here's two more:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsYYG7fmvPk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ND5v8z94d0

VS Pikachu

VS Rosalina & Luma

And another two:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6tcZtNnA7I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9keCzi2yGs
Your spacing on tilts and nairs on rosalina are great not to mention your attacking on luma which is Important. Practice using more of the nair combos off of upthrow and d throw it really harasses opponents.

Against fox I notice when he dash attacks and you use falling nair you go for a grab follow up but he ends up behind you. To combat this i recommend using up tilt it can hit behind falco. Up tilt is amazing against fox especially at low percents you can chain up to 4 or 5 then follow with nair bair or up air. At 0-5 percent I use up throw on fox and throw the up tilts out.

I just started implementing the rar bair bait to f smash to kill recently. Nice to see you using it. I'll edit tomorrow and watch the rest of your Vids but so far that's what I saw, nice bird!

Edit: I had a couple of nice strings against this pikachu, before slowly sand bagging lol

Good playing indeed.

I'd say your biggest vice is spacing.
You went for way too many grabs that Falco's speed would never allow him to actually land. His immediate reach is pretty short, and wiffing a grab is an easy punish.

Otherwise, you've got good fundamentals, which is what Falco relies on heavily.
I can't believe that Fox fell for the bair to f-smash bait twice!

Also great playing against Rosy.
Clutch f-smash to finish the 1st match.
I'd say don't get too aggressive in that match-up too often though. She outspaces Falco too easily.

Hey everyone, Fatal here.
I've been making a lot of smash fundamentals videos on youtube using Mario. However, Falco is my main and so I'll be dropping some in depth match analysis for EVERY character vs. Falco and explaining why the matchup is good/bad/even.

Look forward to growing the falco team.

Freaking patch made people run back and try Falco again. Wished Keitaro's recent matches were up so this wouldn't be a one video post. :p

Palutena vs. Falco - 6/4 Palutena because she has better options to kill at fairly low percents. Stronger combo tools, but Falco can definitely win this match with enough patience, observation and the right punishes.

Hope you enjoy it :)

We have separate MU threads and I haven't updated the temporary MU directory yet in the directory, but most of it's there: http://smashboards.com/threads/all-aircraft-report-falco-directory.398704/.

Or you could post them here, preferably through links as embedded videos cause lag, and I'll or someone else will just quote it over to the right thread. The main post for MUs also works: http://smashboards.com/threads/ssb4-falco-matchup-thread-main-post.370767/. Just don't double post.

What made you switch to Pit?
You won that second match pretty convincingly. Was it just to throw him for a loop?
I realized that his olimar was sometimes beating me when he had a lot of ground space to run around (see the 2nd transformation of castle siege), so when he picked delfino I thought of all of the flat transformations with walk-offs or small blastzones and I realized that in a 2 stock format one correctly placed smash or dthrow to fair could end one of my stocks really early. That coupled with the fact that I like to use pit with platforms, that he is still somewhat viable on stages like fd, and is my main that does pretty decent against olimar, I decided to go switch to pit. IF it threw him off then that was a bonus :)

So I had a few matches yesterday, and man did I get "rekt". Personally, this is kind of embarrassing to show, but I have to. There was this dude that was playing in such a weird way that I couldn't even adapt to his playstyle properly. And I don't think this a professional playstyle...or is it? Anyway, here it is:

VS "This particular player"

Rosalina & Luma
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_slcE9nFCSw

Mario
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP0aKb0j6KE

Rosalina & Luma
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZLZfXPzWMQ

Duck Hunt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElMFLxD_Rfk

Rosalina & Luma
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xiJAK2Z2Os

Rosalina & Luma
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kj9C2StuDU

The Duck Hunt one was strange though; mainly because I had almost no problem with this other Duck Hunt, and he looked like a better one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5MZGPG58KY

Aside from these, here are a few other matches where I play just fine, though still rather irritated:

VS Toon Link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y05Ip1PzQ0

VS Greninja
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLUjIKiXIKE

VS Rosalina & Luma (Again? Seriously?)

As promised here is part 7 in the smash fundamentals: character loyalty segment.

Falco vs Pikachu

it's a match where it can go either way, depending on whoever manages to carry the lead early game. I say 5/5 because both Falco and Pikachu have the tools to control the stage, but also deal a lot of damage without being too close to their opponent. Falco needs to play a very patient and careful game, while knowing when to take risks at the right time.

While Pikachu certainly has more options in terms of killing at mid-high percents in comparison to Falco, Falco can protect himself very well and counter a lot of the tactics that most pikachu players tend to focus on (down throw setups, jab lock combos, etc) with well timed jump ins, reflectors, etc. The key to winning this match is to find the right openings, control mid stage, and when possible taking risks off stage to gimp Pikachus recovery. While the latter does sound hard (pikachu quick attack is so fast), your lasers can definitely throw off Pikachu's timing, which can provide you with an entry for a fair off stage.

aruth1218 strikes again! Keep in mind all of this is online... I think. Without commentary: His Falco vs. Ryu, Ganondorf, and Lucas: https://youtu.be/FdE_9qPpgVs.

With commentary and vs. Link, Fox, and ZSS: https://youtu.be/pTT_lD_6gls.

Minibean's Falco vs. Blazin's Jigglypuff: https://youtu.be/gMgH_oNMics. That Pound towards the ledge looks really weird and unsafe for Jigglypuff. She just stalls there which could lead to spikes.

Edit: Cyro's Falco vs. Xadrin's Bowser and Charizard: https://youtu.be/QS9q66UYFj4.

Edit 2: Edit Harder: Keitaro only uses Diddy for 1 set against Tokyo which didn't end well and Little Mac for 1 round at The Break #315. The rest? Falco and only Falco. So, what could Keitaro do better, what do you like about Keitaro's play, and do you want more of Keitaro's Falco?

Keitaro's Falco vs. Moon's Pikachu and Lucina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D97Q6nfBR3E.

Keitaro vs. Big Boss's Ike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9IhWnq_s6E.

Keitaro vs. Chaos's Bowser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWz0LZIe3ZI.

Keitaro vs. Tokyo's Ness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX_v_LrT-ZU.

And nothing much unless you like watching Falco getting bodied and Keitaro probably trolling at the end; Keitaro's Falco and Little Mac vs. False's Sheik: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EigTF__CZKk.

Edit 3: With a Vengeance: Tasty's Falco vs. Seo's Fox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2OBlvt_1E0. The whole jab at the ledge thing Captain Falcon, Little Mac, ZSS?, Fox, and Meta Knight can do, I think Falco can punish with his Reflector, especially against Meta Knight since his is disjointed while the others at least have a hurtbox Falco can snipe with his Uair or something.

Hey everyone!

Are there are any particular matchups that you would like to see broken down? If so, let me know and I can try to make a video of it

Let me see if I can get in touch with abadango and fight with his Rosalina.

I've fought rain before and his sheik, but no footage of it and I got bodied lol.

Don't worry bout it lol. And the reason why I asked about those matches cause Falco loses against those characters I know for certain Rosalina and Shiek and i'm not 100% certain on ZSS.

Speaking of the video thread I got some vids I need to post lol from Anther's Netplay Ladder.

Hey I've recently filtered down my mains, Falco being one of them. I liked him from the start but didn't play him as much as my other chars, now I'm really focusing on him. I started a YouTube to upload smash 4 stuff.

Tots (Falco) vs Romulus (Falcon)

What are some more options that I'm not implementing here?

Nice bird dude! I don't blame you I had the same issue in my first tourney. I played a not so great player but my nerves made me underperform a bit in the beginning I was trying to read him out. And exactly like what you did I turned it up after getting a few nice strings on them. Great movement and use of tilts and lasers. You got the fundamentals down. I think d throw to dash attack is a bit more reliable than d throw to up smash IMO. But that's the beauty of smash Noone plays the same. At mid percents I opt for up throw to nair then fair maybe sneak a laser in there just keep doing what you did.

Crisspy's Falco vs. Lycan's Triple D and Ness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Cjw4sROneI. I think Crisspy didn't know you could reflect Gordos back with anything that does 2%? to 3%, but he did figure that out later on. I have no idea why he kept jumping to the Gordos without having an active hitbox out. Oh, and never spot dodge Triple D's Dash Attack since it lingers. Pretty good, but the SD at the end made me feel like he could have won if he took his time against Lycan's Ness.

Churro's Falco and Villager vs. James's Luigi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2MOxkF-vqs. People really need to learn Falco (and Fox's) vertical recovery length since he could have been punished every time he used Fire Bird right next to the ledge. With Distant Fire Bird, it's much worse since you spend more time charging and travel slower than Fire Bird. I still hate how (Dr.) Mario, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and Sheik can just Nair through Falco's jab. Jabs are supposed to be safe options, but really?

Edit: Enjoy 9 matches of Kudemo's Falco vs. Yass's Fox: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNuabkFaNVY.

I found in the Sheik match, if you space yourself correctly you can out jab sheiks jab. While not 100% every time, there have been occurrences where I would be in a clash and would out jab sheik.

I have some footage on Wario that I may drop soon. I need more time to come up with a solid explanation to go with the video though.

Fang's Falco vs. ~2OP's Rosalina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkBAAib2njo. Friendlies probably. Fang seems to be a really patient player until the end when he ran into ~2OP's Side Smash... Still, Fang seems to pick his?/her? moment and punishes ~2OP's baits and plays.

From The Break #361 where Keitaro took second again which apparently has been a running trend there. Challonge bracket here: http://8wayrun.challonge.com/thebreak316ssb4. He only used Falco; Keitaro vs. Liver's Mario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmXSuJxAmd4.

Keitaro vs. Excelion's Sheik and Luigi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF_13fCQ5mM. Do not question the stage picks; just question Keitaro. :p

Keitaro vs. Chaos's Sheik and Marth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeFdGfG56AM.

Keitaro vs. False's Sheik (Winners Finals): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ1tARGUFhA. Once again, do not question why Luigi's Mansion was involved. :p

Keitaro vs. Tokyo's Ness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTpwYe1I-rA. The last match makes me wonder about Mario Circuit (MK8)'s legality. It seems fine compared to Halberd and Delfino. Oh well.

Keitaro vs. False's Peach (Grand Finals): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqcEQgmiwGY.

Kind of wished Keitaro made more use of Nair and maybe more RAR Bairs. Down Smash out of shield could work at times too along with Utilt and Dtilt if his opponent is in front of him. Up Smash out of shield would be good if he can connect it since whiffing it would be bad. Don't know how comfortable he's edgeguarding with Falco, but he could try to throw out Nair or Fair to cover options off-stage.

Link vs Falco.

Between 5-5 or 6-4. I'm considering making this an even matchup, simply because if the link player knows the matchup and applies excellent zoning, it can be a little tricky for falco to approach. On the other hand, I still feel that this matchup swings ever so slightly in Falcos wings because, despite the zoning pressure Link gives out, Falco can slowly approach with lasers, reflectors, and perfect shield.

Not much to say about the matchup, since much of it comes down to who can play the tightest of defenses. Both characters excel in that category, so much of the match relies heavily on whether the player understands the weaknesses of the other.

Anytime I play a link on for Glory, I always Shot lasers at the start to get them to shield or just stand there. Ill start short hop approaching laser often till im close enough to short hop tomahawk or anything else. I get frustrated in this match up though, just gotta stay calm.

Heavy zoning characters tend to create frustration because most players have a tendency to play impatiently and rush down carelessly. It also trains the opponent to respect the defensive play, since approaching blindly can cost them a stock extremely fast.

Falco just needs to stay grounded, and look out for small patterns in terms of how link throws out his projectiles. Once you can see that Link's weakness lies in the fact that he can't really follow up consistently, that's when Falco can run in and deal damage, then run back out. Doing this will force Link to play more aggressively which works to Falco's favor, since Falco can punish Link's aggro attacks very well out of perfect shield.

I don't think zero understands that falco's throw combos are way longer then just up throw to up air.

I think a less cool down time def not auto cancel laser. (Even though I do pretty good with laser as it is) It would help a lot.

I just Uploaded a Falco combo video. It shouldn't disappoint lol. "Truth or Dair"
Hope everyone takes a peak, put a lot of work into it.
