So with leaks surfacing by the minute, what do you think would be a realistic fighter pass?

My guess:
1) Joker
2) Erdrick
3) Lloyd or Sora
4) First party character
5) Microsoft rep, probably Steve or Banjo
6) Surprise

I think Nintendo knows that not including at least one more character as DLC, whether it be included in the Fighter's Pass or entirely separate, would be a sorely missed opportunity. It might be more money on their part, but it'd still attract a lot of people given it's not a lame character that not too many people would be excited for. I have a hunch that a fan favorite will be revealed, and maybe, just maybe, it's Geno. There's just no way Nintendo can neglect his massive fanbase for this long. If not Geno then maybe someone from a massively popular franchise not on Nintendo consoles, so that if the games do in fact get ported, people have a general idea of the character since they were included in Smash.

I also have an odd suspicion about Cuphead. The controls for the game translate too perfectly to the Switch and it's among the more successful indie titles. It'd be a proper way to promote Cuphead DLC and a Switch port, and the game has a very staunch community behind it. There's obviously nothing that concretely suggests Cuphead, but I just have a feeling.

Watch, instead of Geno in Smash, we get Super Mario RPG 2 feat. Dante from the Devil May Cry series.

That’s more awesome than I could possibly imagine. Although God of War and Cuphead are impossible.
God of War a little, but I wouldn't count out Cuphead just yet.

And yeah it's pretty cool I especially like the part with no more Nintendo Switch Online :)

The prizes for this block are like a Geno fan's wet dream.

All that fan made merchandise that looks incredible to the point of being authentic looking.

Don’t you dare get my hopes up.

Don’t.

Don’t.

Ah **** you did.

Yeah right because Smash has such an aversion to leaving slots open.

>looks at character roster
>looks at stage roster
>looks at previous games’

Did you forget box theory turned out to be true? It's just as possible for the music slots in the game to indicate what we're getting as well.

Well, it has to be said that the box theory was put in place by the marketing team. The hard-coded stuff in the game is from an entirely different place, so that point is moot.

Well, the stage menu is likely to be filled with the 5 DLC stages and an arrow for future DLC, and the area of the Smash website displaying the fighters will all be filled out once the 5 DLC characters are put on the website

No it is not moot. If there were planned to be 5 new series, there would be 5 slots for new major IPs. No exceptions since the "leak" claimed they were 3rd party.

Possible doesn’t mean probable. Music slot theory is just as likely as Website slot theory, Blog theory, Stage and character selections will be filled theory, and any other theory.

It holds no water as a theory, is what I’m saying.

I say we all make our own judgements about the theory. I am a current believer of music icon theory

There is absolutely nothing solidifying this claim. Especially if you're trying to use a sound test, something in the background, as a fan rule for it.

Smash is a unique beast. When it comes to characters, or series in that matter, niche, "relevant," major hits, "icons," etc. does not really matter in the Smash equation. Were Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch gaming icons that brought them into Melee? Pit in Brawl? Duck Hunt in Smash 4? Yet, they are in Smash. (specifically the base game).
Yet 80% of the Smash roster is made up of highly marketable and iconic characters.

Duck Hunt is an insanely iconic game. Sakurai even talked about how popular it was and is one of the highest selling shooting games ever, if not the highest selling. The Game And Watch is a very important part of Nintendo's history. Kid Icarus is a cult classic - another game important to Nintendo's history since it was Metroid's sister title - and Pit was easily the most requested NES character for the post-Melee era.

Ice Climbers are the only example on your list that really holds water. They were simply picked because Sakurai wanted a character from the Famicom's launch lineup and he was interested in a two-person mechanic.

Masahiro Sakurai: "I’m actually not paying too much focus on the surprise element when we introduce a new fighter. The surprise element quickly fades once the announcement has been made.

Rather, I believe it’s important to have a good balance as a game. In the past titles in the series, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B. and Duck Hunt Dog were some of the examples we offered outside of people’s typical expectations. However, if we don’t have these types of fighters, and we only had typical “hero/heroine” type fighters in the lineup, there’s not much difference. It’s probably not very interesting. Correct?"

Sakurai adds balance to the game. If all characters were the most iconic and heroic, it wouldn't be interesting

I said "80%" fits that demographic. I was contesting the claim that these other factors don't really matter in Smash inclusion, because they obviously do.

Ah, I see.

Being an icon can get you into Smash, but if a character isn't an icon or very recognizable, it doesn't mean they can't be in Smash

Holy MOLY that run was epic as all hell. No donations about Operation Starfall or talk about it in chat, but SMRPG raised buku money.

Man, I wanna watch it again.

It's a speed run, that's KINDA the point, to use what ever you can to beat the game as fast a possible.

Not cheesing it would be more of a challenge, which is what I like to play: less about speed, more about making the game more difficult on a normal run. Something like Lowest-Level Culex or doing Critical Mode Lvl 1 runs on KH2.

Also, did you guys SEE the hype behind Geno the entire time? The chat talked him up consistently and the crowds and commentators were super behind him. Someone should clip the parts where Lady and the female commentator mentioned Geno for Smash and tweet the clips to NoJ and Sakurai, just so they still understand the fanbase is active.

Honestly, I expected more glitches but SMRPG is a solid game and he mainly only used cuts that I knew about like Mack. My fav moment was Pink Geno: I've never seen the game speedrun ever and I definitely didn't know about that happening, it was so cool and if Geno makes it to Smash, I would love one of his outfits to reference that.

That is true.

In my previous playthroughs of SMRPG, I did a lot of level grinding and grinded for the super suit. This playthrough, I won't be doing that. I also might get bodied by Culex this time around so hehe

The Geno hype was beautiful. slopdop slopdop clipped that moment of Geno for Smash being mentioned in the Operation Starfall thread!

I thought I was blind when I saw pink Geno. I had a quick flash of Geno in a pink alt in Smash, and, it was, like the Geno hype, beautiful

Yeah while it's too bad there were no Operation Starfall shoutouts with the donations read I'm genuinely surprised by how positive and hyped people were about Geno. Even on places like /v/ where there was typical "never ever" ****posting there was also a lot of excitement and hype over Geno with some still holding out for him in Smash and others just looking forward to him showing up again anywhere like a SMRPG remake (which is what Operation Starfall is all about). This should be a positive reminder that for as much **** as we're inevitably going to get as Geno/SMRPG supporters there are a ton of people in Geno's corner.
