Yeah I don't buy it for a second. Way too much for one direct in my eyes even after all of the delays. Also, Ryza as the next fighter just seems like it will be very anti-hype for a good number of people (especially me).

Once again, I’m trying my best not to entirely bite into this, and definitely think this could have been a slip on words. But I just wanted to mention something.

I’ve seen people use the interviews of people saying Snake and Rayman would be in SSB4 as prove that this stuff has happened before. While it is definitely similar, one key difference is that those were interviews, where your on the spot and it’s much easier to have a slip of the tongue. This is clearly a fully scripted and edited video, where a slip like this is much more unlikely, but still possible.

Not entirely sure on the Mega Man in Brawl stuff, so maybe that might be more accurate to what’s happening right now, or maybe it was an interview as well. Don’t know the exact source for that claim.

Pam Horton is an industry insider--she would've gotten the details to this reveal a few weeks before it was officially revealed. And she would know better than to say "when Geno was revealed for Smash" instead of "when the Geno Mii Costume was revealed for Smash". The former is just *too* confusing for the general audience. That just opens her and GameStop up to way too many questions. No, I fully believe she was talking about Geno as a fighter.

It was *absolutely* recorded pretty recently. They were using this video to promote Paper Mario; they wouldn't have gotten a preview built that far in advance. I'm betting we were supposed to get the Direct either on the 7th or 14th, where Geno was to be unvailed.

She is an industry insider, but even some of the most reliable industry insiders didn't even know anything about a potential direct until like a week or so ago when Kelios first talked about it, and other insiders didn't jump on it wholeheartedly till like the 10th or so, when the gamestop SKUs leaked. Even if the direct was on the 14th, this video would still have gone up too early and "leaked" the fighter.

I went onto the person's twitter, and I think the most likely thing is that this was recorded all the way back in June (at least the audio was). Don't want to get any more personal, but I think her twitter activity in the last 2 weeks is a big hit to the "leaks" chances. Nintendo had their E3 cancellation revealed since May. Even if they gave out information to Gamestop first, I don't think that they gave them out information on this Direct any earlier than the start of July.

So unless she has some best sources in the industry who told them that Geno was a fighter in June, I doubt that the video is "leaking" anything.

Regarding leaks and hype culture, I personally don't care if I raise expectations too high or drop them like a bag of bricks. If I see something I don't like, then I'm not going to be happy regardless of how hyped I was. So, I say let people get excited if they want to. Just remember that nothing is guaranteed unless there is a proper slip up or leak like the Terry or Simon Belmont ones.

That's a valid point given her Twitter activity. I follow her and completely forgot about what she was doing in the first week of July. There's no way she would've been recording anything after that.

*However*, she could've recorded the video in late June or very early July, expecting a 7 July Nintendo Direct, where Geno would've been revealed. It's not unfair to say that GameStop would've been privy to information that far in advance given that 7 and (most likely) 8 were supposed to be revealed in June. And no insider is going to be foolish enough to say something like "when Geno was revealed for Smash" when they were actually talking about his Spirit or his Mii costume. Like I said, that just leaves way too many questions. Looking back on the video, several comments are referring to her "leaking" Geno, but no one from GameStop has bothered to make any statement for or against said leak. If she was actually referring to the costume or the Spirit, GameStop definitely would've clarified that in the comment section.

The biggest annoyance, for me, is that I can't record a genuine reaction video when this direct finally launches.

You know a leak is fake when they try to predict what the Zelda subtitle is: I'm still trying to remember if, since I started following gaming news in 2011, somebody was able to successfully leak or even predict one of those subtitles perfectly.

On one hand this could just be GameStop people being horribly misinformed and not doing enough research to know that not only is Geno not in Smash as playable but also almost no one freaked out over his Spirit or his Mii Costume in Smash 4 (except for me and that one legend that everyone knows)...in which case we get to laugh at how desperate and how much of a failure GameStop is for the up-teenth time while also appreciating that Pamela may or may nto be a true SMRPG fan even if her voice is a bit grating, knowing all the while that we have so much evidence in Geno's favor that it doesn't matter if this is a true leak or not.

On the other hand, arguments have been made on how this could really be a legitimate leak just based off of timing and events alone, and this could be possibly the biggest leak for Geno since CacoMallow, in which case we all lose our collective Star Pieces as we see more Spirit promotions in a true Fighting of the Spirits.

Not to be mocking or anything. But I'd say that Geno getting into Smash even as a mii costume/spirit is a huge feat for a character of his caliber. So it's not unrealistic if she's just talking about the mii costume from Smash 4. And like I've said, unless she knew about Geno in June; I doubt she's been working on that video anytime in the last 2 weeks. And the chances of her getting Nintendo "E3" info all the way back in June is really low, because they revealed their plans to cancel E3 all the way back in May.

EDIT: and to clarify/potentially explain the poor choice of words. The person really doesn't need to know that some people in the fanbase were disappointed that Geno was only a mii costume or spirit. Because both times, the Geno community continued to grow remarkably afterwards. To a uninformed person, it wouldn't be surprising to see the rapid expansion of the community due to the mii costume/spirit as "excitement". This is only a possibility though.
