Yep, don't **** with Oda's storytelling. My friend convinced me to watch One Piece recently and I'm honestly glad he did. I always avoided it, because I always heard it associated with all those plotless shonen like bleach and dbz, but One Piece has pleasantly surprised me with how well written it is.
I actually never minded op characters in anime, as long as the story itself is good and characters are likable. My problem w/ bleach and dbz is that nothing ever happens in them, but I'd personally defend fairy tail and One Piece since they actually have some amount of entertainment value. Naruto, on the other hand, I haven't watched enough of to have a solid opinion of (though what I have watched hasn't really stuck my interest).Yep, don't **** with Oda's storytelling.
So far, it has the least deus ex machinas out of the 4 major anime/manga (One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail) since Oda thinks ahead. The other 3 have enough to have nicknames for them (Plotkai for Bleach, Plot no Jutsu for Naruto, and Nakama Power for Fairy Tail)
But that was Rave's main plot too, no ? Like power of friendship all the way and the bad guys are secretly good guys that turned evil because they were sad.Fairy Tail... I think is disappointing. I loved Rave and expected something equally awesome and well-written, but I got an ecchi manga with some people hitting each other occasionally where the good kids never lose a single battle, ever.
Yea there are obviously some good manhwa out there and some bad ones, just like manga. Tower of God is pretty good but the rate at which it is advancing will lead it for quite a few years considering the author follows the power scaling that he decided linearly. Although he did take a leap before to not drag out the main character's development to a certain degree.Tower of God is btw. a decent shounen if you don't mind it being a manhwa.
I would recommand to stay away from the Noblesse though.
But it at least had a deep backstory, like the whole Resha Valentine thing. I mean, it wasn't a 10/10 manga, and the fact Haru had the ability to make everyone his friend is silly, but it at least was redeemable. But that was Rave's main plot too, no ? I used to think excessive gore was cool, but now I find too much to be overwhelming and unnecessary, that is, unless the scene calls for something like many people being brutally maimed or piles of dead bodies. For me, no other manga comes close to the greatness of Berserk. Beautifully drawn, great story, great characters, and most importantly: way, way, wayyy over-the-top graphicness. I love how every chapter has something eye-popping to look at. I really wish they would adapt more of the series to anime since all that's been covered so far is the first story arc and the story only gets better and better after that.

I thought Tokyo Ghoul was alright. I'm willing to let its violence and gore slide due to it being an action-horror series, thus making it appropriate. But yeah, back when I was in middle school I too thought that excessive blood and gore was cool. Probably because I thought it made me bad ass or something stupid. Anyway, Tokyo Ghoul had a really neat premise and lots of room to expand, but had the same problems that nearly every twelve episode anime I've ever seen has. The story lacks focus and tries to cram in too much, most of the characters are tossed on way side and forgotten about, the series forgets that it's only got twelve episodes and not twenty four so it crams the entirety of its narrative into the last three episodes, ect.My friends are in love with it, but Tokyo ghoul isn't much of my style. I have it my standard five episodes and it couldn't hook me.

I haven't seen much of the second season, but I think I'm going to give the manga a read one of these days.
After the battle for brew, soul eater's manga takes a turn for weirder and darker, that material is right up bones' alley.I've been crossing my fingers for a more faithful adaptation of Soul Eater for a while now. I'll agree the ending was pretty lackluster, but at least it had denouement. Unfortunately, it seems like the series is more interested in drawing in the moe crowd more than anything. But now that both the anime and manga for SE NOT are over I wonder if there are any other plans for the series in the works.
Hopefully Bones will give us another anime, but we'll see.
I read the manga years and years ago when I was about thirteen and I really liked it. I haven't seen more than the first few episodes of the anime because I want to reread the manga first (it's not very long, only eight volumes IIRC). From what I've seen, though, it seems like its a pretty solid adaptation. Yeah, it changes a few things (most notably the setting has been updated to the 10s rather than the 90s) and the protagonist has his everyman qualities played up a bit more, but it seems pretty solid. So does anyone like Parasyte: The Maxim? I watched about half of it but then my friend spoiled the whole ending for me and now I don't feel like watching the rest, but I liked what I did see for the most part. He did say though that the last episode is pretty lame.
*cough*I want to find a series that is dark, has a good story, good characters, and has plenty of action. (Gore is good, so long as it isn't excessive)

Don't bother. The setting is original and interesting but the development and the characters are atrocious. Watch it if you're into hardcore tsunderes or imoutos but I don't recommend it.- My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute
