According to the latest issue of Nintendo Power, the upcoming Wii remake of Klonoa will feature english voice acting for the very first time! However, purists wiil also be able to switch the voices to the series' usual exotic gibberish.

Also, A Boy and his Blob will apparently get a remake for the Wii developed by WayForward Games.

PS2 ports I could understand. But a PS1 port and a sequel that looks like it could have been made on the Super Nintendo...

Why?

Really? I loved that game as a little kid. ...Though I was never able to beat the game without cheating.

Hold up, there. Klonoa will have updated (and more detailed) graphics, while AB&HB will pain-stakingly detailed backgrounds and 2-D animation, along with a new artstyle.

You need to see screenshots before jumping to conclusions.

I did see screenshots.

A boy and his blob, although very pretty, simply does not look like it strains the system; rather, it looks like a game that could just as easily be made for the Nintendo DS as the Nintendo Wii. I would like some more good games for my DS - I don't have much to get excited about with it, because I usually prefer games with the pretty 3D environments to the ones with the 2D environments, especially on the Wii.

Klonoa is very difficult for me to get excited about. It is a 2D platformer with 3D graphics ported from the PS1 that I was never more than vauguely aware of even back when it was first released. Why make a remake of that game? Why not update the graphics of a more renouned PS1 title, such as Final Fantasy 7?

I just checked out the gameplay for a Boy and his blob. It looks like it's going to be majorly easier than the one I had for the NES...

Though I don't like 2D games on the wii, I may consider getting that, but taking into considering how much it will cost.

...It kind of looks like a game for little kids or something though, but I did enjoy the NES game.

This should clear things up:

Nintendo Power interview said:
Why did you want to bring this title to Wii and not, say, DS?
Sean: Different versions were discussed, but we settled on Wii because the game could be so much bigger! That isn't to say you should totally discount possibility of the boy and blob appearing elsewhere...

Because the casual audience has no clue who Klonoa is. Also, Square Enix is too busy pumping out spin-offs for FF7 to bother.

Actually, I have no idea myself who Klonoa is; if I ever heard of him before, I've completely forgotten him now. Even after a few trailers, some pictures, and reading a couple of interviews, I don't get Klonoa. All I know about his game is that it's an old PS1 port, and I'm kinda sick of ports. If I'm going to buy another port, especially of a game as old as this (or as old looking as A boy and his blob), I'm going to need to know what makes them worthwhile. Screenshots, interviews, and trailers haven't shown me anything that explains what this game is exactly, let alone why I should buy it over Sonic and the Black Knight, which for it's low difficulty and simplistic, arm-hurting controls that don't even require you to look at the screen while playing, probably has the best graphics on the wii of any game to date.

So what is Klonoa exactly, and what gameplay elements makes a game distinctly of the Klonoa franchise?

EDIT: whoops, started ranting. My bad. Thanks for the info.

Klonoa is a 2.5D platformer series in the vein of Yoshi's Story and Mischief Makers. In other words, the graphics are in 3D while the gameplay itself is in 2D.

Klonoa's main gameplay element is to use a wind ring to inflate enemies to pick them up and throw them, among other things. There are quite a few puzzles that revolve around this. You can also use the ring to interact with various objects in the environment.

While the stories in the games are obviously geared towards younger players, some of the games' stories veer towards the dramatic and even tragic (the first one in especially slides towards the latter).

All the characters speak a unique language that is derived from Japanese in some way, while sounding like gibberish.

The series is quite good, generally.

I partially take back what I said before, while I generally don't like 2D sidescrollers or ports, I do like Super Mario Galaxy inversions of typical genre rules, platformers, and - mysteriously lacking from WAY to many titles - colorful scenery. It is still a port of a game I never heard of, but considering how lacking the wii is in titles that can stand up to a PS1 port and a twenty year old game, I'll try to get Klonoa used.

It's kinda odd how developers don't quite "get" the wii. If they "got" it, they would have realized that a good platformer like (hopefully) Klonoa, but in full 3D as an orinignal IP, would probably become an immediate cult classic.

Videogames need more cartoony graphics (not cell-shaded) and less realistic Gears of War processor-pushing shading techniques, IMO. I think that there is a lot of underestimation of the power of a cutesy 3D platformer with super-strong controls for even the most steriotypic platforming levels. For example - Super Mario 64 had two generic ice levels, one generic "climb the tower/mountain/clock" star per level (if not more), multiple generic water and fire levels, a couple generic mountain levels, and some unforgettable levels that while awesome, incorperate many of the same elements as the generic levels I just described. There's also the 2 generic collectathon stars for every level (100 coin and red coin), because collecting everything without being allowed to miss a single item for success has been proven "fun" time and again.

But it was still awesome, and I would play a game like it but with better graphics as soon as it came out.

Cartoony graphics can only work if done right, Team Fortress 2 is a prime example of "cartoon graphics" done right, there really hasn't been many games recently that have used that kind of art direction to their advantage. Battlefield 1943 is doing something similar but if you ask me it seems like they're just copying TF2, plus with lame mechanics like auto regenerating health and rumored infinite ammo, the game is likely to become a spamfest.

I can't say I've had a desire for platforming games either, my main memories of platforming games include numerous deaths due to bad cameras and over sensitive controls and spending long periods of times doing the same jumps over and over due to unreasonable checkpoints.

Cartoony graphics don't have to be correlated to the platforming genre either, Devil May Cry had some platforming elements and the art direction was far from colourful.

Further proof that shooters are a no-no on the Wii.

All time sales for Call of Duty: World at War
Xbox 360: 4.98 million
Playstation 3: 2.97 million
Wii: 0.95 million

On a lighter note, Bomberman: Act Zero for 360 has sold 0.02 million copies (20,000)

The Wii version of CoD5 was like a gimped version of the PS3 and 360 one, both in graphics and online. It's Nintendo's fault for being so set in their ways and refusing to make online more of a priority and using such mediocre technology.

They didn't have to add Blu ray or a 100GB hard drive but they could have made the Wii more than a Gamecube 2.0.

Yes, the online and graphics were a joke, but I expect more sales from the Wii considering it holds a commanding lead over the others

Most people that bought a Wii probably don't even know what CoD is, so it's pretty clear where the most sales would come from especially since CoD4 wasn't on the Wii.

Now we have to pay for nintendo's crappy wifi? I hope this means there making the online better for the games that you have to pay for.

EDIT: After checking the date, it seems this is old news. Wonder why I've never heard of it. I guess the idea got canceled :D

-:bowser:Bowser King
DLC for Rock Band and Guitar Hero, and I think Monster Hunter 3 MIGHT Have it. Don't know..

But maybe the reason why its crappy in the first place because its free.

I haven't heard of a single game which falls under this criteria.

And the announcement was from over a year ago, according to the article.

But if I have to start paying for Nintendo's terrible wifi, I'm getting a PS3 instead.
