Metal Sonic could be a cool addition if Sakurai decides to make him a unique character, but since Metal Sonic generally was created to Rival Sonic in being the REAL Sonic he'd most likely end up being a clone or semi-clone of Sonic with some small but noticeable differences which I don't see as a good decision.

To all the people who are salty that Roy is back need to realize a two things:
1. Roy is fan favorite especially in Japan. He was basically a given to make it in to Smash 4 as DLC. Doesn't matter that he sucked in melee and the other games he featured in when people love his regardless.They are other Nintendo characters who have sucked in their games but they are fan favorites in smash as well as well.
2. The argument that there are too many swordsmen is irrelevant because they are still way more people in smash that fight with their fists and all the swordsmen play completely different anyways. Hell, even in melee Roy played nothing like Marth despite having the exact same moves. Judging by the Roy victory trailer, he'll most likely be a semi-clone and have moves completely different than Marth anyways.
People should be happy we have more characters to play as anyways. I'm interested to see how Roy will play in this smash 4 environment.

The difference between swordsman and fist fighters is that fist fighting can actually offer unique move sets, you can only slash so many ways.

I'd be more excited for this if Sm4sh was in general a more fun game. As it stands all I can see is Ryu being higher tier because of his ability to combo and absorb hits into a powerful one, and Roy being garbage because of shieldstun not existing and endlag on everything.

Not much to be excited for in this engine.

Why wouldn't they? Street Fighter is more or less their flagship title now, and Ryu is the most popular and recognizable character in the franchise. And the fighting game community is more or less crap anyways, with or without Ryu in Smash. Also, it looks fake? This is not the Gematsu leaks, and this is not the ArtsyOmni hoax; this is an ESRB-tier leak.

Roy looks very different from Marth. He seems to be a semi-clone, which is great. He has some moves that are similar to Marth's, but they all look very different and fresh. I'm excited for both now!!!!

Question though: while I have no issue with Ryu..why was Ryu chosen? Was he high on the character poll or something?

From what I've seen, Roy's animations are definitely different and Ryu looks pretty interesting to use.

I'm not really sure how anyone could be disappointed with the announcement; my biggest issue with it is that Roy's range looks downright terrible.
