i think everyone is pretty excited about this new aspect of the game, but i'm not. i think one of the reasons that smash bros. is so popular is because it isn't similar to most fighting games. a lot of games such as wrestling for example have finishing moves, i don't see why they had to do this to brawl

Why not? Why add side-B moves in Melee? It adds versatility.

Besides, there are already finishing moves in the game, otherwise it would be pointless. What separates Smash from other fighters (among other things) is the fact that it's not based off of a life bar or HP; so death isn't certain until they get knocked into one of the walls, ceiling, or floor...

While I thought this too at first, this are MUCH better than most finishing moves in fighting games, and it gives some extra to the veteran characters besides slightly tweaked phychics and a new look.

Why cook a steak?

Why pet a cat?

Why get double cheese on your pizza?

Because it adds to the experience you clod, that's why.

I just hope they aren't in tournaments. People need to remember why items were abolished in the first place.
exactly my point, its gonna take away from mind games and the overall strategy of the game

Or will it add to them, like most fighters?

You haven't even played it yet.

They needed to add some sort of move like they did in Melee. It would be impossible for them to add a diagonal special move, so they had to do something more unique.

Final smashes seem very cool to me.

Which is why they will be turned off.

You don't have to complain about the addition, since it won't effect you when you turn off all of the items.

I can't imagine that it'd affect competetive play. If I'm correct, to use the final smash you need to pick up an item. I'm sure most (or all tournys) will have that item turned off. To me though its a welcomed change. For just a casual game im sure itd add some kicks, just imagine the frenzy that would be caused when you pick it up and KO all 3 people your playing with. When I'm ready to get serious ill turn off all the items.

Melee tournaments didn't always turn off items, especially here in the west coast. Who's to say that they'll stay off in Brawl? I really hope they're still off.

I think the final smashes will be welcome in the SSBB arsenal of moves. Plus if anything it should ADD to mind games and put the other player at a disadvantage mentally (or an advantage if they're bad *** enough) but with items being banned in tournament play, it shouldn't make a difference.

they're probably just there so when you do one on your friend(s) you can just stand up and act like a Jack*** screaming "DAAAAAAAAAAMN SON, WHAT HAPPENED!? DID YOU JUST GET ANNHIALATED!? SNAP!"

I mean, you know, not like I would do that...

nah. screw it, I would

Viewtiful Jeff I hope your wrong because that would be a game breaker. It would end high-level tournaments and would turn many people away from the tournament scene.

I hope final smashes can't be turned off just so all the tourniment players can complain about it taking no skill to win with that. It is a feature of the game. You have to:
1. Be the first person to get the smash ball
2. Execute the final smash strategically so it will defeat everyone.

It's not just press a button and everyone dies. Each smash has it's pros and cons. I seriously doubt that the smash ball is an item, because the update would have went in the item section instead of the how to play section.

I dont know why there are a lot of people who talk about strategy in smash, i mean, c'mon!! is a figthing game!!! ur not supposed to develop a strategy, u just kick everyones butt

Now, ok, lets think for a moment that u do need strategy, then avoiding a final smash would be part of the strategy

Most people think that having items makes the battle unfair or stuff, i guess it makes it more challenging, but well, thats just how i think

lol that would suck. I hope not.
suck....or blow?

If a ball that spewed super-powerful moves out of its *** is all it takes to break the tournament scene, I must say, I don't think it's all that sturdy in the first place.

I'm pretty sure he'd love that.
Yes, it's my secret desire to obliterate the tournament scene so I can rebuild it under my own twisted designs with MUTE CITY, ITEMS COMPULSORY, DAMAGE AT .05 AND DEATH TO ALL WHO USED ADVANCED TECHS.

You find me out, you clever shrew.

Which is...? Do you even know why? If you think it's because of strategy or mindgames or whatever you're wrong. The ONLY reason items are off is because of the exploding crates and barrels, and having even one item on allows for crates/barrels. That is the only reason, nothing else.

Sakurai isn't stupid. He's trying to get new players and make it more fair but he's also not trying to shoo away the seasoned players that don't want items or any type of strategy that involves "getting that thing that just popped up first."

I thought it was for randomness.

Meh even I find those exploding crates and such annoying. I hope there's an option of turning that off this time.

Argh, I hope I don't get flamed, but I welcome the Smash Ball and hope it's used in tourneys.

If you're REALLY pro, you'll find a way to get it before your opponent, and use it at the EXACT right time to anihilate them. In my opinion, I think it takes still. Also, if you're MORE pro, you'll let your opponent get it, dodge his attack, and punish him for the after lag which I'm pretty sure is inevitable in my opinion (here come the replies like "HOW DO YOU KNOW? HAVE YOU PLAYED THE GAME?") . Key abbr.: IMO

I just hope that Final Smashes dont immediately activate once you grab them cuz then that would kinda defeat the purpose.....

lets say Yoshi'd Island 64 was in Brawl for a moment...and your camping on the cloud and boom....a Smash Ball appears....your friends are gunna kill you for that ball...so you grab it....but your facing the other way...lets say your Mario...you just released a hurricane of fire to the edge of a screen....congrats.....

I hope you can activate it at will...that way you can have strategy....maybe you can activate it thru a taunt....I dunno we really cant say much until December 3rd....or until Sakurai posts an update in How to Play on how you activate FS....

Ok... my point of view..

More versatility and variety in fights... more fun.. I haven't played Street Fighter so I can't say how those work. Though I have played Tekken, Dead or Alive, and.. Naruto.. But you knew the special attacks were coming and could avoid them.

Smash = Do damage and try to knock the person off of the stage. = Stronger moves typically are finishing moves.
Others = Hit them enough until they die. = Any move can be a finishing attack.

Not sure how to make this real.. specific.. But the feel of the game and damage/kill wise its different and.. it can be turned off right?

the smash tournament scene is a different scene than the casual player scene. for the casual player (like me) final smashes are going to be beast. for the tournament player (also like me), the FS wont be a factor cuz items will be turned off anyway. final smashes will bring fresh and new aspects to the gloriousness that is SSB. it would suck if brawl was pretty much melee with better graphics and more characters.

If Im correct, final smash is obtained by using an item. So if you really hate it, you can turn that item off.

Yes, people DO. Because the correct reason is because of not being able to disable Crates, Capsules and Barrels which would appear in front of attacks and explode.

Right. So what if a smash ball lands right under a guy you just knocked down? All he does is stand up(which takes a whole 1 or two frames), picks it up, "goodnight, sir" and its over. Oh wait, but a pro will be able to use mindgames and trick the person who's standing right on top of it not to pick it up. "Hey look! I birdie!" "Where?" *runs in and picks up the item. -.- yeah thats really gonna work. Since the tournyments(sp?) are going to be 1v1 it won't be that hard to "defeat everyone" with it. Now granted, team matches would take more timing to not kill your friend, but thats about it.

So FS's are unblockable and/or can't be dodged? And how do you know they knock you off stage? Where are you getting your information from?

Because items cause cancer.
Items killed my father. And ***** my mother.

I think the Final Smash is an amazing idea. Many of them look amazing, and they can't really be compared to a finishing move from a traditional fighter because they don't necessarily "finish" anything. A fatality in Mortal Kombat happens after the fight is over, and things like Ultra combos in KI must happen at the end of the fight. Final Smashes could potentially happen at any time, and they probably aren't as gamebreaking as many people are fearing.

The only final smash I've seen so far that could actually end a fight right away is Link's. That's only if things are 1 on 1 because Sakurai said they can only survive if they hit ground. The other ones seem dodgeable

I see im not the only one who thinks that FS should be allowed

Tournament players seem to be the only one concerned about them. Well, im guessing theyre just afraid to die due to a powerful attack. As i said before, if ur that good, u can handle it, u will be able to 1.get it fast or 2. dodge it if someone else gets it and even if u get ur a$$ kicked, if are skilled enough, ull still win. Same goes for items, i just dont know why they are not allowed. Random bombs in crates? Yes! thats part of the game!! u have to learn to deal with it!!!

By the way, no, im not just a casual player, i play tournaments too, and yes, i win them, and yes, im good playing with items and without them

I shield.

Your final smash has been defeated.

I think they are a very nice addition to the game. It defines the characters even more and it adds to that ''comeback factor'' that is always good to have. If they are not unblockable or sumting like that, I doubt that Final Smashes will be overpowered...

But it makes me wonder, is it the end of the hammer?

EDIT: CronoMaster I dont like the fact that you jump so quickly to some conclusions (''tournament players seem to be the only one concerned about them'')

If you're a tournament player yourself, you shouldn't make that statement.

yeah I don't enjoy the game as much when I play soley on Final destination with no items. Playing on all stages with items still takes skill and adds more fun. Final Smashes was a good idea and will make the game so much more fun

This is why I don't come in this section, at all....>_>

How explain have you played the game? can you give us an indepth look at the games mechanics and how this new addition is going to take away the depth of smash? I mean maybe your right, maybe this game will just be camping and just super smash after super smash....But oh wait whats this?

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/howto/basic/basic02.html

The Final Smash is a secret skill that can be performed but once…and only after obtaining an item called the Smash Ball, which is a precious item, indeed.
Thats right guys it can only be performed once and only once per fight and only after obtaining the item.

So your entire argument is basically "WAH WAH WAH I DON'T WANT SMASH TO CHANGE CAUSE I'M CLOSED MINDED WAH WAH WAH." >_>

oh no, what i meant was that most casual players are ok with the inclusion of FS, i like them myself, but most tournament players, whater like it or not, seem to be worried about them being on in tournament fights

So, i guess most people like them, but they are the most concerned since is still unkown if they can be turned off. and as i say, they shouldnt be, learn to master them, avoid them, etc, and deal with it, i mean, c'mon, why do u think the games name is SMASH BRAWL??

As well, unlike other games, it looks like you can either:

1) Interact along with the FS (ex. Donkey Kong)
2) Move while performing the final smash (ex. Bowser, Pit, Pikachu)
3) Becoming a enitrely new character (ex. Zamus)

People need to stop *****ing about why they don't like Brawl. You will play it, you will love it, and most likely like it better then Melee. People are just to afraid of change.

I know when I get Brawl, I will watch and use every characters FS just for fun. I like those type of moves. I don't use them much in fights but I like to watch them.
