Hey everyone, thought I'd get the conversation rolling on this.

We get 8 players + 2 alts for this. It will be regional crews that are separated according to what is listed in each sub-regional forum on SWB
The following states are considered "Pacific West":
Cali, Nev, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Hawaii, Alaska

Based on information I have if we're going on talent alone:
1. Mango
2. Dajuan
3. S2J
4. Lovage
5. Westballz
6. Fly Amanita
7. SFAT
8. Lucky

Alt 1 Silent Wolf
Alt 2 Silent Spectre

Borderline (If any of the above players cannot make it. Has potential to make crews with strong showing at Norcal Regional in July)
HMW
MacD
Darrell
Scar
Eggz (doubt he'll stay sober though =/)
Bladewise
Shoyo

Group C (If we're desperate....)
Baka4moe
Sung
Stabbedbyanipple
Sheridan
Alan
Tafokints
Toph
Vish

Other thoughts?

Upon double checking, there might be an issue if I end up teaching in the second summer session, but that's probably not going to happen. If so, I'll see if I can work around it anyways.

Eggz on a good day is awesome. It's unfortunate that he gets drunk/high at every tournament, which needs to be factored into the equation. Although HMW did choke at genesis 1, he has actually gotten really good, consistently taking sets off of scar/sfat/dajuan in norcal.

zhu bro you should find a way to go. national's **** now that everyone is an adult.
i'm starting work around that time, and given that it's a weekday tournament (wtf?!) I think it'll be really hard to worm some days off so soon.

will be trying 100% of course, but it'll be tough...

In the work world, people are much more reasonable as long as you communicate your intentions. It's not like school where teachers and budgets dictate no flexibility.

So apparently, it's only states listed in the Pac West boards, meaning we don't get Arizona. I'll update the OP.

I feel like people are forgetting that each player essentially gets 3 perma-bans.

if your opponent wants to play on jank, they can play on jank

Singles
LDO Neutrals
Brinstar
Rainbow Cruise
MK2
Japes
Mute City

your opponent is guaranteed at least 2 jank stages if he wants to go that route. which, if he's worse than you, he assuredly should want to

if people are interested in going to FC and haven't checked out the info packet they should do so

$85 entry is LMAO steep, for one

and the schedule is so packed with retardo side events that if you're not interested in all those side events you're simply not going to get your money's worth.

you're essentially forced to enter the side events (it's all included in the entry fee); you don't get **** back for not entering them. so that means more people are going to enter, so everything takes even longer. good luck finding time for friendlies, unless of course you want to STD three consecutive days, eschewing sleep and all essential livelihood.

and how about the fact that the schedule is from 8 am to 12am? are you kidding me?

http://www.zettagaming.com/meleefc/FC10RInfo.pdf

i hope this tournament is a massive flop

so let's drum up a cost for this:

$250 plane ticket
$85 entry (only 2 meals provided)
3 days x 3 meals a day = 7 meals you need to provide for yourself. 7x5 = $35.
housing: $70/night divided by 4 for 3 nights = $52.50
total: $400 minimum

and if you're only going for melee, what do you get? depending how good you are, 6 hours of melee? 8?

Let me look at the free time:

I'm not entering brawl/64/project M

Sunday:
12PM - 8:00PM
So 8 hours to chill, play friendlies with other melee players

Monday:
Free Time: 9:30AM (realistically i'll sleep in) - 12:00PM
1:30 - 3:00 PM
9:00 - 12:00pm

another 5 hrs

Tuesday:
3 - 8 PM - free time

I've counted roughly 20 hours of free time to play friendlies, much better than the 1.5 hrs I got at Apex and the 2 hrs i got at Genesis 1.

Let's break it down
I would be willing to pay
$25 venue for 3 full days for a national (seems to be a standard)
$15-20 for Singles
$10-15 for teams
$10 for the two meals provided
= $60

So in essence I'm getting ripped off $20-30 for not entering Brawl/Project M or w/e.
Additionally, Brawl/Project M/64 have a cap iirc. So I'll be playing friendlies the whole way through instead. That's 20 hours potentially, I'm down. I would like to save $25 given the choice, don't get me wrong, but if $25 is an issue, then travelling to a tourney shouldn't be on the top of your priorities.

On stage lists
The stage list, I don't like it either. I also don't see it as black and white either. "Jank" has various degrees of meaning to it in regards to the stage list. As a Sheik main, I don't mind playing Brinkstar, Mute, or Cruise.

I fail to see how your opponent will default to pick 2 jank stages, unless he/she is ********

Ex1. Fox vs Puff
Fox perma bans Brinkstar, Mute City, and Dreamland

This leaves Puff with Rainbow Cruise, MK2, and Japes as the "Jank" stages
Why would Puff pick a stage that she has a matchup disadvantage on?

Anyway, I hope the tournament does great. It's so easy to criticize other people's work in the limelight and nitpick. I'm excited to meet everyone there and play friendlies with EC/Canada/Europe.

tl:dr At most, I'm foregoing $25 of "value" for 20 hours of friendlies.

I agree with pretty much everything on here, which is why I'm only going if there is enough people traveling! I think tickets going into South Bend, IN from LAX are over $450+ right now! Entry fee is just crazy! Hell, EVO is $50 plus $10 for the game that you are playing and we're talking about Ceasar's Palace!

Reason why I'm still willing to go is I haven't been to any big Melee tournament in over a year and a half!

It's pricey. What norcal is doing is going into O'hare (chicago), and taking a rental car to Southbend. It's saving each of us like $150-200

what makes you think all available setups won't be used for those games? that's what generally happens

I've counted roughly 20 hours of free time to play friendlies, much better than the 1.5 hrs I got at Apex and the 2 hrs i got at Genesis 1.
ya if you could promise that i wouldn't have an issue. gl

Additionally, Brawl/Project M/64 have a cap iirc.
?

You will also receive access to both A Events, one B Event, and one C Event (caveat on C event below).
that's slightly better than i thought. basically you have to pick between brawl/64/project m. obv brawlers will pick brawl and meleers will pick 64/m. but it'd be nicer if meleers who would rather play friendlies over 64/m wouldn't be co-opted into the latter.

The stage list, I don't like it either. I also don't see it as black and white either. "
i do. idc about anyone else because i'm not spending their money, i'm spending mine. i already forfeited one tournament match to a player because he CPed rainbow cruise since i came back. i will never play on rc/brinstar/etc. ever again. idc how advantageous it is for me (i'm fox, who isn't hurt by anything). it's just not fun to me. i'd rather not enter. i'm not advocating it for anyone but myself.

just one of these issues wouldn't bother me. if the stages were lame then i'd be like fine, i'll just show up to pay spectator fee and friendly/money match people. but i can't do that. so if i can't do that i want to be guaranteed a crapload of friendlies to make up for the tournament that i have no interest in.

and yikes @ $400 plane tickets. after genesis 1 i was pretty sure i would never go to another national and hair-brained logistics like this is why.

Why would Puff pick a stage that she has a matchup disadvantage on?
these "disadvantages" exist only in the absolute when the game is played in the relative. why would a pikachu main pick pickachu? familiarity? fun? they may have fun on those stages. they may be used to playing those stages. neither applies for me. if they pick them i'm forfeiting. i'd rather not play than play on those stages. that's just me tho. and that's not a "john," that's why i never enter tournaments that have those stages.

For setups, I'm going based on reputation of previous FCs.

Pound and FCs have historically had enough setups to cover the tourney + friendlies. For example, Pound 5 had about 60 setups for each game, which allowed for 24 hr access to a friendly station for the vast majority of the tournament. Likewise, I would expect the same from an FC tourney. I could be wrong, but previous tourney experiences from other people's testimonies lead me to think the # of setups won't be an issue.

Now that you elaborated on your grievances, beyond "I hope this tournament flops", I see that your reasons have more than enough merit to harbor your reactions.

Fair enough

**** i wish socal was grown *** *****s lol

if FC is at least half as good as pound 5 was for friendlies and half as good as apex was for homies it'll still be a good tourny

Japes is honestly not that bad for Floaties. The ceiling is just as high as dreamlands and the the river doesn't **** them that hard compared to other characters.
