Evolution 2019 Lineup Announced, Smash Ultimate Makes Main Stage

The Evolution Championship Series, or EVO, announced its main lineup for its 2019 tournament in Las Vegas occuring this August. Smash players will not be surprised to hear that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has made it onto the list, and that it will be featured on the main stage Sunday. Yet, to the surprise of some, Super Smash Bros. Melee has not made it on either list. This is the first time since 2013 that Melee hasn’t been a part of the main lineup. At this time no side events have been announced, so there’s a chance that Melee will exist in some form at EVO.

The main lineup for Evolution 2019 is:

• Tekken 7
• Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
• BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle
• Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
• Dragon Ball FighterZ
• SoulCalibur VI
• Mortal Kombat 11
• Samurai Shodown
• Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st]

The four games for EVO Sunday are:

• Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
• Tekken 7
• Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
• BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle

So you are saying a game can only be played in one specific way as you see fit? As goofy as an example as it is, look at Minecraft. Would you ever second guess someone playing that game differently than you? Why should it be different for Smash? There are different rule changing options for a reason. Plus Ultimate was made for competitive play. They had pro Japanese players test the game. I just think your argument is flawed but I could be dumb

I mean it's true that Sakurai never intended for the game to be played competitevely, but in the making of Sm4sh, he tried to make appeal to both casual and competitive smashers even though in the end, it was more casual (which is true cause I have more fun playing with items in that game). He even went out of his way to host an invitational. Not only that, Nintendo sponsored numerous Smash tournaments; Apex is an example. It was a slow process, but Sakurai accepted the idea of competitive gaming and is now even more connected with it. Ultimate is a game that he wanted to truly be fast paced and patch notes are proof of that. Trust me, I think competitive Smash in comparison to other games in eSports is unprofessional, but try saying that to Team SoloMid, Team Liquid, NRG eSports, Cloud 9, Tempo Storm, Red Bull Gaming, and other teams that sponsor smashers. Plus, don't discourage people. I want to play Smash at a competitive level so just back off.

Do these anime fighting games have Fire Emblem characters in them?

 

i am not gonna lie...not fond of Melee and personally i don't get why people try so hard to keep it alive?...i watched some of them matches and it are always the same stages, same characters and of course same top players, at least with Ultimate you will have alot more variety with all of them... and don't let me started about on how unfair certain things in Melee are *cough* wobbling & ledge grabbing *cough* and i also saw the Marth grab memes >~>

there were people from the Melee community literally hating on Ultimate cause Ultimate got in and Melee didn't... which kinda rubs me the wrong way, Ultimate is a great game that can both be played casual and competitive but still i see people from the Melee community refusing to even admit Ultimate is just as good or maybe even better (to me it's 1000000 times better then Melee!)..i mean tbh Melee is 18 years old..isn't it time to move on?
i don't see other communities holding onto old games this much..i see all of them moving on to the newest games of their franchises

Only cause the game is new, eventually every game turns into that, no matter how balanced. Smash 4 was balanced yet Bayo slowly became prevalent in every top 8

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has the same 5 characters who are broken but people absolutely love it same with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, both still have very revalent scenes still.

Eventually that’s going to be Ultimate no matter how long it eventually takes, and it could be literally any character at this point

Also Melee players hating on Ultimate is the 1%, almost everybody else is upset but like Ultimate as a game

Replace Samsho with GG or DOA6 and this wouldve been the perfect lineup.

As much as I like melee, new fighting games are coming out and evo was gonna have to accommodate to that, melee wont be at evo forever. If anything it'll 100% be a side event though.

GG players didn't ***** about their game not being there, you also see MVC2/3/Infinite players not complaining. The most I saw from them was along the lines of "RIP Marvel".

If you don't like it you don't have to watch it (which I don't see why you would want to if Mr. Wiz hates the smash community as much as melee players say he does).
