Monolith Soft CCO Tetsuya Takahashi
…So we’re hiring for everything in Division 1 production. When I write it this way, people might think, “Did Monolith lose a bunch of people?”, but don’t worry. We at Division 1 are all doing just fine, with no vacancies.
Then why are we recruiting? The answer is simple. We’re understaffed.
The motto of Division 1 is “Making up its small number with great talent” (A Japanese idiom). That’s something that won’t be changing anytime soon, but there’s a limit to things. In comparison to other companies with a similar project size, we’ve been making games with much less staff than you would typically see, and while this sort of structure has helped each of us with understanding each of our roles, it has also lead to us not being able to check our games thoroughly enough, and when someone has to call in sick, we had to make do with other members on our staff.
To give an analogy, it’s like Koshien (Highschool baseball) with only nine players, or going to the World Cup with only eleven players. When something goes awry, we had to have our shortstop also play as second baseman, or our forward position also had to cover as the midfielder.
This is unacceptable if we want to provide customers with something better, so we’re hiring for all parts of the division.
I especially want to highlight the parts of programmer, map modeler, and level designer. Obviously, programmers are at the core of any game, and I want to improve our map-making, which is something Monolith Soft is already known to be good at, and build an even better world for customers to experience. Maps are at the core of Role Playing Games. It is most certainly not plot. Because without it, we can’t do anything, but with it, we can estimate all the costs… I can definitively say that from my years on the job, and everyone here at Monolith Soft agrees. It’s a very important job, and thus very rewarding.
You can make a game.
A world.
You can be the core of Monolith Soft.
Lend us your power, your talent, your creativity.
We’re also looking for character designers. My decision for this is not really for this project specifically, but because I have a strong desire to find a designer who can become the face of Monolith Soft in the future.*1 During my time at Square, I met very talented designers such as Nomura-kun (Tetsuya Nomura), and it would be a dream-come-true to have someone as talented (Although we did get Nomura-kun for Xenoblade 2). If only we had someone like that at Monolith Soft… Of course, we’re not looking just for character designers, but other artwork staff, too.
Just to add, aside from all the jobs we’ve laid out, we’re also looking for specialists in UI/UX design, battle planners and quest planners, so if you think you’re up for it, please come to our doors.
Finally, there is something that is required for all parts. It is a love (respect) for Monolith Soft games. We all know how things end when they’re made with no love or respect. When I say respect, I am talking about acknowledging both the good and the bad. Not blind faith. Please share your love with Division 1.
We are recruiting for staff members for a new RPG project that will continue (in the vein of) Xenoblade, Xenoblade X, and Xenoblade 2.
