Yup, it's all luck when determining if your mains will rock or suck.
In Smash 64 I loved Link, Mario and Ness.
It was sad that Link just didn't cut it when me and my bro played, but Mario and Ness we're more than serviceable. I thought I was really lucky in smash 64 because of how all of my faves rocked. Pikachu, Yoshi, Kirby e.c.t.

In Melee, everything took a turn for the worse. Mario was fine, but Ness and Kirby became horrible. Pikachu also wasn't the smash titan of the 64 days. On the bright side, I became really good with Link. And mained Peach towards the end of Melee.

In Brawl
My faves we're all good. Ness was decent (Imo
) Yoshi, Kirby and Pikachu bounced back as well. All was well I suppose.

I used Ness and Mario in 64. Then Ness, Ganon, Mario, and Falco in Melee, and now Ness, Lucas, and Mario in Brawl. So, yeah, just looking at the tier list, apparently my taste in mains is getting worse.
