For those of you who are worried about the Hyrule Warriors roster only having 9 characters:
These games usually have different kinds of story modes, some with different gimmicks and characters.
For example, Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 is obviously based on the Gundam animes. There is a huge series of missions based on iconic battles from the actual anime, and you can only use characters involved in those scenes there. However, there is also a crossover story that is just as huge, and here, the characters are split into four groups, and you can play missions from each team's perspective. Eventually, the characters merge into two teams, and near the end, the merge into one, where you can tackle each mission as whoever you want.
The initial four teams, however, were based on canon alignments:
Those who Understand: Mostly made up of pure hearted, strong heroes who are fully sure of themselves and desire peace, they hate war, but accept that they must fight.
Those who Doubt: Mostly made up of unlikely heroes or characters who have some good morals, but also have committed a lot of sins.
Those who Pass By: Mostly made up of the goofy and laid back characters, as well as some anti heroes.
Those who Fight: Made up of villain and anti hero characters who don't question the morality of war.
I think the 9 character slots we saw in the E3 demo are just the slots for Link's team, and that there are more story arcs for other teams of characters. Zelda, Impa, and Midna are all heroes who are closely associated with Link, so the rest of those 9 character slots probably include characters like Sheik and Groose, maybe the King from A Link to the Past too.
Then, there will probably be other teams of characters. For reference, this game was a crossover between characters of different generations of the main timeline, as well as some from completely segregated universes, and had about 60 playable characters. As well as this, other major characters were operators, who would oversee the battle and provide you with key information, and provide buffs depending on their talents.
Just thought I'd dispel worries that Hyrule Warriors would have a tiny roster.
