Why does everyone think I suck? lol I'm actually pretty good at the falcon match-up with Marth

Shout outs later =D

Edit: How does me not thinking I blow 0 humility o.O? I didn't say I was the best **** thing to happen to super smash brothers. I'm just tried of hearing "I can't believe you lost to Lanstar" -.-

I learn alot of new things about hosting tournaments. I'm going to fix those mistakes next time. I think I have some ideas on what/how to prepare.

hahaha **** you steven

i looked like total **** that whole tournament
oh well lol
also i realized that i left my other sweatshirt at either dunk's or brendan's house in a drunken haze hahaha, thanks for getting it back to me anyways

shoutouts to the new people i met :)
lanstar, even if you're good, saying "i'm a lot better than most people think" still comes off as kinda cocky =P. i've known you were good since connor's biweekly like a year ago, and you showed me falling uair off the platform with fox, so don't worry about it! lol

baka4moe, you're really cool, really nice, and are really good on top of that! i'll play you next time with fox some more, we can learn the matchup together :)

hugs, good games, whenever i get better i appreciate how good of a player you are more and more. everyone has their off days, and tafokints style = too good hahah

joey, you're my hero

zhu, ehhhhhh (haha jk, wish we got to play some though)

oscar and fly, good job in the tourney

darrell, eventually we will morph into two identical-looking joe-darrell hybrid cyborgs, and then my life will be complete

the homies- you already know :) brendan, steven, derek, gage, hugq, alfredo, matt, stab, julian, and on and on... nice seeing you

i think that this was one of those 'bad tournies' (for me at least) that helps you realize what you're doing wrong and how to improve. i've been getting kind of mad recently, idk why, but i have a lot of theories about how to improve now, especially after interviewing joey for the podcast, so i'll see everyone again real soon :):):):):oneeye:

Joe how do you go about getting better? I feel like I've been stagnating for like a year now and it's really stupid.

connor: idk dude, i suck =P

i have a few thoughts though, since i know what's going right when i'm playing well

the main one is to take pride in being able to change your game up. i realized that when i first moved to norcal and started getting a lot better that i was eager to learn whatever i could, pretty much, and that i practiced tech skill every day, and i was more excited to play different people.

now it feels like i'm in a slump too, and that i have an ego about being "good" at the game. i really need to pay attention to reading my opponents and using it to play faster, because they go hand-in-hand. and personally, i like just doing random **** and hoping it works, or knowing the right time to do a trick, and i know a pretty big number of tricks that'll work once or twice. so i figure i need to keep changing my focus around on different aspects of the game, keep practicing, and try my hardest in friendlies to look for new openings instead of the ones that 3+ years of experience have drilled into my mind.

basically, i'm thinking a combination of keeping on my grind and staying humble will help out a lot :)

i also think that there's this idea floating around somehow in my mind that "ok, now that i'm an experienced player, i can put smash on the backburner and still improve. time to do other **** with my life." that's not really true, though... i think you need to keep up the effort you had as a bright young contender. also i've gotten used to letting people talk **** on me playing smash, i realized, which is BS because 1) i love the game as much as i do when i first started playing competitively and 2) there's no reason to be ashamed of smash, when you know it's so awesome

my thoughts as of right now, even though i think you could be asking a better person. it's also kind of comforting to think of it like, "every dog has its day," like after fly had his big jump up where he beat zhu/lucky/hugs, people thought he might be getting worse, but then here he comes to **** this tournament and get 3rd =]

even i'll do randomly pretty well sometimes. a lot of smashers don't give themselves enough credit, IMO. what seems like a consistent skill gap really isn't always that far out of your reach, and people tend to make mountains out of molehills and take losing to the same player X times in a row as solid evidence of "oh i can't beat this guy"

i'm really not that sure, but those are my jumbled-up thoughts on the matter. taj wrote an article about "breaking through your glass cielings" that i wanna look at sometime, there's probably good wisdom in that.

i gotta go to bed lol, later

that doesn't work for people who aren't dumb!!!

hahaha just kidding. i know what you mean though, but it's a lot harder for some people to block it out.

and i think with fox, you need to practice lol

Thanks man. I don't think I had an off day. Off days are when you lose and you can't explain why you're losing: "I don't know man I'm just off today." I don't get many off days anymore.

I came because it was Dunk's bday even though I knew better. I don't like showing up to tournaments if I haven't prepared because I know what will happen. I was only capable of beating characters that weren't technically demanding (Ice Climbers). I was on point mentally, but my tech skill was abysmal, which is necessary against fox/falco/falcon, and I lost to 3 foxes.

I woulda posted pre-johns because I knew exactly what would happen to me, but then people woulda called me on pre-johns, and I preferred to go in with a positive attitude. However, that positive attitude went out the window the moment I started accidentally approaching with jumping grapples.

I'm putting out post-johns because I guess that's how I cope. I'm already known as a johnner anyways.

Next time I'll either be prepared, or I won't show up to a tournament if I haven't played for as long as I didn't play.
