I highly doubt Doc will be returning. I guess I can still hope since he was one of my favorite characters in melee.
The only real possibilities I see are Doc being a costume for Mario, or giving Mario Doc's moves/properties of his moves (Ex: Doc's nair)

I doubt that he'll appear as a costume though, it'd be awkward for Dr. Mario to remove his head mirror or to use FLUDD or whatever. And even if they change that, they might as well make him his own character. Well that's what I think.

I wouldn't complain about Dr. Mario returning if he simply got decloned, with different moves etc

If the Doc were to return in Smash 4, he'd probably just be an alt costume for Mario or something.

I honestly think that the Doc's chances went way down of becoming a playable character after the reveal of alternate costumes, so maybe we'll see him as an alternate of Mario.

If true clones are back, Dr.Mario has quite a chance of returning.

However, Sakurai already said not even ALL of Brawl's cast will return. So to expect Dr.Mario is kinda... Hopeful. lol

Toon Link has way more potential as a semi-clone than Dr.Mario. And if anything, the mechanics of both Link and Toon Link are different enough, as well as their statistics. If nothing else, Toon Link is way more important to Zelda to warrant his stay than Dr.Mario warrants his inclusion as a Mario character.

So much wrong in so little words.

"Toon Link has more potential" Look where that got him.
"Mechanics on Link and Toon Link are different enough" As are Mario's and Dr. Mario's.
"as well as their statistics" Again, as are Mario's and Dr. Mario's. Even moreso in Melee's PAL release.
"Toon Link is way more important" Give me a break; it's just Link in his ****** artstyle. Dr. Mario at least has an alternate identity and represents a sub-franchise with a different genre.

Oh Lord, it's your superiority complex speaking again. Mind if I don't answer but rather hope someone with more patience than me answers this instead of me?

I don't mind, in fact, I'd be glad if you didn't.
You have repeatedly shown to not know what you're talking about on this topic and I'd rather someone who does attempt a good argument.

If wanting a more capable "opponent" (for lack of a better word) who doesn't make fallacious arguments means I have a "superiority complex", so be it.

It's apperantly more deep rooted than I thought. Wish you luck with the next person telling you not to expect Dr.Mario cause it's stupid.

If I may, I'd like to object to the Toon Link not being very important.. Toon Link actually represents the franchise fairly well, representing the many Toon styled games and the Child Link styled games and he represents the reincarnations in Zelda.

Again, "Toon Link" is just Link.
In an alternate design.

Wasn't saying he was unimportant, but that one design of Link isn't any more important than another, rendering the "way more important" bull**** from Diddy void.
To weigh the importance of a specific design separately from the overall core of the character is eyebrow-raising. It'd be like weighing the importance of "WarioWare Wario" and "Overalls Wario" on their own merits rather than on Wario's as a whole.

So essentially, the argument is "Link is more important than Dr. Mario", which is obvious. Link is the hero of a long running franchise. Dr. Mario is the protagonist of a sub-franchise that is nowhere near as expansive.

.....so you might be asking, "But wait a minute, Golden....isn't Dr. Mario also just Mario in another design?"
And if the case was the same as Toon Link and my Wario example, you'd be right.
However, this opens up another can of worms.

Dr. Mario is a separate identity.
Much like Sheik is a separate identity to Zelda while still being Zelda, Dr. Mario is the same for Mario. Or for a more in-house example, Mr. L to Luigi.
He is Mario's medical alter-ego from his own series (which may or may not have its own canon separate from the "normal" Mario canon) who is diligently working night and day to develop a cure for the common cold and tending to the ill as opposed to going off on adventures, playing sports, hosting parties, go-karting, etc.

In comparison "Toon" Link is Link but in his carTOONish design. Zero Suit Samus is Samus without her Power Suit. "Overalls Wario" is Wario wearing his overalls. And so on and so forth.
Does that make sense?

I am 99% expecting Dr. Mario as an alt.
I'd be disappointed not to see Mario with a Dr. Mario costume, especially with the whole alternate costume hubbub.

I'm not expecting it.
Sakurai expressed distaste for the idea prior to Melee, and it's unlikely that changed.

What about them?

Villager was an idea Sakurai considered for Brawl during planning stages and even envisioned how he would fight. The deal was that he didn't feel Villager was suited for fighting given the vibe of the Animal Crossing franchise. This time around, he doesn't care about that so long as a character is interesting to him.

The Wii Fit Trainer in general is not a defined character. It can be either male or female as decided by the player at the beginning of their Wii Fit game. Having a male option for Smash's WFT (who is female by default) is merely reflecting this and not limiting to a single gender. Other than voiceclips, there is no reason to believe they are going to be different from each other.

Sakurai's discussed issue with Dr. Mario as a costume was that Dr. Mario using fireballs would not make sense.
And looking now, it would make even less sense to have Dr. Mario use F.L.U.D.D., and unlike the fireballs, there's really no feasible alternative.

So no, if Dr. Mario comes back, he's going to be his own character; a semi-clone. Otherwise, he's not coming back.

Yeah i was thinking about the ideas of different colored pills that do different effects (blue=freezing, yellow=paralysis, red=burning), you can insert the pills into the opponent by pressing side-b, Switch between pills with Neutral B, and also quickly drop a pill by Down-B, like in the Dr. Mario games. I think he's a character I would like if he has a new moveset.

I wish they would drop the FLUDD for Smash 4

I was never a fan of it + it would atleast give a chance of Doc being an alt skin

Let's just give Marth a Roy costume that gives him fire slashes.

Dr.Luigi has been announced.

Am guessing Dr.Mario isn't nearly as unique anymore. And his inclusion would warrant a Dr.Luigi to perhaps by now...

First Dr. Luigi is announced which gives hope of Doc's return (with the L-Pills thrown in for good measure), then Rosalina is revealed, dashing that hope.
In the wise words of Luigi, "oh well".

Or he could still be in....as a Dr. Mario character rather than a Mario one. :troll:

To be honest, after seeing Rosalina, am not nearly as opposed to Dr.Mario as before. He's by far not my first choice though.

Well I don't think he'll come back. But out of the three alternate versions of characters, Doc Mario, Y.Link, and T.Link, Doc Mario might be my favorite of the bunch. I do like Toon Link almost as much, so I'm glad he's back. Mario, Samus and Link are the only characters I think can have two versions of them in the game. Not like Fox/Falco clones, I mean two versions of the same person. Anyway, I hope Doc would be a mix of Mario and Luigi if by some lucky chance he comes back.

I see the Plumbers like this.

Mario = Ryu, Luigi = Ken, Doc Mario = Akuma.

I'd love to see a Dr. Mario costume for Mario, and maybe a Dr. Luigi one for Luigi now. To take it a step further, maybe in these specific costumes their fireballs would be medicine pills, but otherwise their movesets would be the same (obviously). Seeing the male Wii Fit Trainer, I think this could work, and it would give at least something for Dr. Mario fans:)

...then again, I'd love to see more elements from Melee in the game, like maybe something Pichu-related for Pikachu (though I guess I can live with the thought of it being "evolved" from Pichu as in Brawl it had many similar elements) and a Young Link-throwback for Link. Roy and Mewtwo I'd rather see return as playable characters.

If Sakurai is going to try things in Brawl that didn't work or were unfinished, I expect Doc to return if Mewtwo and Roy have a shot.
