Do you agree with having to buy both versions for Mewtwo?

Do you agree with having to buy both versions for Mewtwo?I'm on the fence about it. Sure it's a good way to have people buy both versions, but what about the people who do not own a 3DS and a WiiU? They will be one character short because of this. For these people it's a $40-$60 character. Might as well buy both now to get the soundtrack as well.

I am one of these people. I was not wanting to get the 3DS version because I do not own a 3DS. I might eventually do this and just give away the 3DS version of the game to someone.

You don't, Nintendo confirmed that Mewtwo will be paid DLC for the people who don't own both versions.

Word on the street here....is that Mewtwo is going to be paid DLC if you don't have both games so....yea...more like a....5-10$ character....but hey....there's already a Mewtwo thread so maybe you wanna....you know...check those out too.

When did they confirm that?

I'm only ok with it if it's for a limited time and then have it available in the e shop.

Actually I was planning to buy both versions before Mewtwo's announcement so it wasn't a big problem for me.
And if that wasn't my case I would buy the Wii U version to get the promotions, a CD with top composers and a Special DLC is worth it

I believe you but do you know who from Nintendo said this or where it was said? I've never heard about this and I (like all of us) are pretty into the SSB4 news. So I'd like to know if possible the wording used to say this, as to many people this is a very important little piece of information.

"WARNING! Mewtwo arrives in spring 2015! Register both versions in a promotional period & get him for free! "
That doesn't say he wont be a paid DLC option. But I think your right that it could be. The wording there is a little ambiguous.

I suppose it isn't clear cut proof that we get Mewtwo as an exclusive, but just hearing promotional period leads me to believe that it is just free for a week or so... then everyone gets the mewtwo love... not like buying both versions was even a question here anyways...

Even if he doesn't have his source right now, isn't it obvious that he'll eventually, if not immediately when he is released be put as paid DLC? For those who have both versions already spent $100+ on the games so Mewtwo is a little treat for those guys, but I'm 100% confident that Nintendo is going to put him on the eshop for those who don't have both versions

Considering I was planning on getting to get both versions before Mewtwo's announcement, I'm perfectly content with the idea. And I honestly see him becoming paid DLC once those who get him for free have had some time to use him.

Nintendo also said the Hyrule Warriors pre-order DLC costumes will be paid DLC too. But so far that has not eventuated. Lets hope Mewtwo is not as royally messed up as the HW pre-order DLC costumes were.

If people watch the 50-fact extravaganza before the 3ds was released, smash 3ds will sell like 10 copies a week
and I stand against it because i HATE DLCs i wish dlcs were completely destroyed by Killager

If the thing about him being paid DLC for everyone else is true, then I don't mind. It's a neat incentive to get people to buy both versions and reward them for it, but it still doesn't exclude those who don't want to buy a whole new system for a game just to get one character. I'm getting both most likely anyway (hopefully Wii U for Christmas), but I'd still be miffed if Mewtwo were kept exclusive to that deal and not even available as paid DLC. As we saw in the Direct, the Wii U version already has more than enough to sell itself without an extra character- old modes cut from the 3DS version returning, a ton of new stages and music, much better graphics, up to 8 players, the awesome new stage builder, and more I've probably forgotten. As a free, normally-paid-for bonus, though, I'm cool with it, especially if the him being paid DLC for everyone else thing means that he's the appetizer and more DLC characters are on the way possibly.

Pretty damn positive Mewtwo will be available to everyone as paid DLC. They won't exclude people like that. They don't have to confirm it, they're almost positively going to make it available, just double dippers get it free.

They didn't "royally mess up". The game's barely been out. Any time any game on any platform has pre-order DLC that is available later to everyone, it's usually... you know, later. They weren't going to make it immediately available.

Not to mention, the DLC's probably handled by Koei-Tecmo.

Yes they do. It's all rumour till it's officially confirmed (straightforwardly) by Nintendo.

The thing with Pokémon is that event Pokémon have existed since the beginning with Mew. At this point, things like Diancie are to be expected.

SSB has never had exclusive fighters only available to a certain amount of people. And yes, this still excludes people who can't get paid DLC, but it's better than the alternative of Mewtwo only being part of getting both games.

That, and DLC for the most heavily requested character for their biggest game right now is way above pre-order DLC costumes.

I already had every intention of getting a Wii U for Smash anyways, so it doesn't bother me any. If anything, it's a free bonus that I really wanted. <3

You make a good point but . . . the Zelda fans who bought Hyrule Warriors were majorly mad about the pro-order DLC issue there. it did matter to them a lot. It disappointed many people. Of cause SSB is on a larger scale as it'll sell more games, bot for those who care, buth the SSB DLC and the HW DLC mattered equally as much.

And yes people are selling HW DLC codes on ebay.On a personal note, I really wanted the Twilight Princess DLC but I could only get the Ocarina one in Australia, and it really annoyed me, I could not get the DLC I wanted. You can't say just because it's mewtwo and SSB that it matters more. It's just the same as the HW DLC. Lets hope Nintendo does the SSB DLC much better.

Who even cares? Why the **** WOULDNT you get the Wii U version? Chances are you already have it for 3DS anyway and its not like the Wii U version wont be the definitive version.

This. I only have a 3DS, and the Wii U is pricey even if it had games I liked. I plan on getting both and getting the Wii U just for this game, but not everyone would do that. I've also seen the opposite where people don't want a 3DS just to get the 3DS version solely for Mewtwo, especially since those people likely have no interest in playing the other version with all the Wii U one offers.

Then buy one. Its Sakurais way of forcing the versions to have equal rosters as hes always said they would.
$200 for a 3DS + $60 for SSB4 just for Mewtwo? You can't be serious. If Mewtwo is not paid DLC in the future then people without both versions of the game just miss out. And that is not fair honestly. The soundtrack, that's a cool bonus for people who buy both games. But a character? That's just too much.Lets hope Mewtwo is paid DLC like everyone here hopes he will be.

Mewtwo will be paid DLC. They would not put any effort into it AFTER the game had been finished if it was not for a profit.

He will be able to be purchased. Use your brains. Just like Mario Kart 8 had NO mention of DLC when it was released, then out of left field they announce it. They aren't being stupid this time. They wouldn't piss off people like that.

However, I am for the Free Mewtwo with both versions. Most true Nintendo fans have found ways or will find ways to get both systems because they love the games. Rewarding those true fans with a character they actually want for having both versions is 100% fine to me.

He'll obviously be paid DLC later. So I'm not worried either way. I just have to register both my copies with Club Nintendo at the right time. Or I'll just buy it online instead. I already have both versions as well.

What I really am wondering is what else will be DLC(besides the Miiverse stage, patches, and a Mode). Time will tell.

I really hope by registering it online they just mean have it already registered before or during the time. I want the CDs too and I'll be salty if I miss out on free Mewtwo over that. I want the CDs more just because Mewtwo will most likely be obtainable one way or another, but it'd still make me mad.

theres no way they wont make it paid dlc, no competitive game of a good size makes it so character is around for limited time. it will have to be paid DLC.

or itleast any competitive game that is taken serious woudnt pull that off.

Yeah, I hope he's paid DLC later, even if it is a rather obvious move. Can't afford a Wii U.

Does it only work with the first 3DS linked to the Wii U, or multiple? If so, can't friends just help get the character?

In my house I have multiple people with SSB3DS so it would suck if it were only one person...

Yes, it works. The Website confirms that the only requirement is that every 3DS has its own copy of SSB. I think you need to go into the game and connect it with the Wii U. They didn't detail it much.

You have to download it from Club Nintendo, it's a promotional thing. It's linked to your Nintendo Network ID as well...

Sure, only every 3DS has to have Smash, but in order to DOWNLOAD IT, BOTH games are registered on your NNID, which each friend will have their own NNID.

They are going to make sure you have both registered. This is just like when you had to have Mario Kart registered under your Club Nintendo account for your free game code. the code that is given to you (I'm almost certain) knows a particular NNID is trying to download it. I don't think you can just give your free game away.

This will have to give out two codes, one for Wii U Mewtwo, and one for 3DS Mewtwo, which I'm sure will be specific.

I think it's totally fine to have Mewtwo as free DLC for those who have both, while having him be paid for if someone only owns one copy of the game.

Ahah I was shocked when I recognized Mewtwo at the end of the direct. I hope I didn't get over him so my reaction would be something like "AAAAWWWWWW YYYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH" instead of "What the heck?!" ahah. I was so shocked that I almost ignored the conditions to get him

I have a 3DS but I planed to get a Wii U and its version of Smash, because I don't know anyone with a 3DS so local multiplayer, something I love about Smash, will be easier for me with a Wii U. It sucks if buying both versions of Smash is the only way to get Mewtwo, I hope that he will be available later for everyone in another way, but personally I'm planning to get the 3DS version as well now. Portable Smash, yet another controller, Mewtwo in Smash and a free A Link Between Worlds with the winter offer are worth my money IMO.

Worst case scenario is that he will be exclusive to owners of both versions for a couple of months, and then a paid DLC option will be added later on.

They wouldn't make a popular character like Mewtwo exclusive to the minority who own of both systems. Rest assured, Mewtwo fans. In the worst case scenario, you will have to wait a couple months to get your hands on Mewtwo, if you don't have both versions of the game.
