I want a unique Dixie, but I would be able to accept her as an Echo Fighter. In addition to the oft-suggested Up-B change to Donkey Kong but with her hair and other minor moveset changes, there's also the point of echoes (but Dark Samus especially) having changed animations from their counterpart. And I think animation changes could go a long way in differentiating her personality-wise from Diddy.

And regardless of how she plays, being able to play as her and having a full 4-player match as different DK characters would be a dream come true.

To that point, if we got Dixie who would then become your most-wanted DK character? While Funky or Cranky would be cool, my top pick would be Lanky - not for the memes but for his legitimately cool moveset potential.

In a timeline where the Rare buyout didn't happen, I genuinely think we would have had at least 5-6 Kongs + K. Rool in Smash at this point, plus other Rare characters like several Banjo-Kazooie characters and Conker.

I've been thinking a lot about Dixie lately, and I've started to feel like she's actually the number one most important character who can get in at this point. She's arguably the last remaining true 'Nintendo All-Star' not yet confirmed and she's easily as popular as Chrom and Dark Samus, if not moreso. She'd also round out the Donkey Kong cast which really deserves it. I've really started to think she's the most important and most likely character to be added now, and I'll be astounded if she doesn't make it.

Nah, Tiny stands up in her two legs and Dixie not. Their proportions are way different too, pikachu-pichu issue at least, maybe a bigger difference. Dixie and Diddy share a similar body shape, Tiny is something new.
By the way, orange grenades are items that I want to see since Melee. Considerating the item list as a festival of explosives I can't understand why a bouncing bringer or chaos is not included.

Dixie being associated with bubblegum is kind of weird when you think about it. Imagine if Diddy was associated with cornchips or Lanky associated with Mcdonald's burgers. Bubblegum isn't the healthiest food around. And you have to wonder how DK even allows this considering how proud he seems to be of his own chompers. Maybe that's why Dixie basically disappeared after DKC3. She was getting major dental work done to repair the damage done by her obsessive gum chewing.

With Dixie in, I wouldn't want anymore DK characters.
I love dkc but I believe there must be a limit for everything: 4 characters is enough and they are THE 4 storic playabla characters and the storic main villain. Cranky and Funky are nice and historically important too, but just as helping characters, so I'd like them as stage elements/hazards or trophy fighters, or nothing at all



Btw, I'm agree with the echo-with-modified-animation. Some diddy's moves could be made by Dixie with her hair instead of her limbs (such, for example, fair and upair; maybe fsmash and upsmash too). But then there should be also at least two different moves: dsmash (the move she does in TF when bash the earth) and of course upB. It would be nice giving her the cargo throw, or also as side B a similar command grab to diddy's one but with the kick (and maybe the grab too?) done with hair instead with the foot.
This way she would have ONLY ONE completely new attack (dsmash), but considering all the other moves she wouldn't be anymore strictly a Diddy's echo.

Mmm, I have just designed a very fast, cheap and terribly effective and fun moveset imo, lol, (considering also her model would be almost identical to diddy's one), why in the Earth shouldn't Sakurai do the same or even better in even less time?! It would be so easy and sound so right...

Nap_ Remember, idles and general animations can be different. Dark Samus is probably my favorite dessert option right now, showing there's plenty of wiggle room for what defines an echo. Tiny was more or less Dixie before the redesign, just standing upright. I don't think it's too outlandish for a Tiny echo considering she literally was Dixie one again. Plus, I want Donkey Kong to get its desserts too. Don't stop with just K. Rool.

InASnowBoundLand I'd chalk Dixie's gum-chewing to her being a stand-in for the 90's girl. Pink, kneepads, blonde hair and so on. Diddy seems like a 90's kid too with his backwards hat when he starts dancing with the boombox. The entirety of DKC screams 90's, look at DKC1's intro.

At first I was reluctant, but after that and happened, I'm more accepting of that idea.

Oh and to VeemonTamer , I also participated in this newest poll that you posted. I'm thinking 7-8 more characters counting Echoes. Dixie is my most wanted, put down BK, Skull Kid, Elma, Isaac and, just because, Sephiroth for the rest. I mean hey, if the heroes vs villains thing turns out to be true, Sephiroth has a chance. Actually, the more I've thought about it, the higher his chances seem. He's scored well on Japanese popularity polls, is Cloud's villain and is one of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, more than half of the roster.

I kind of really want Sephiroth now...

But Dixie still comes first.

Dixie as an Echo is fine because, unlike most of the others shown so far, I don't think she'd be cannon fodder for cuts in the next hypothetical Smash game. She'd probably get the Luigi/Falco treatment and gradually become more and more unique with each reappearance. If this is her foot in the door as a mainstay of Smash, I think Dixie fans should be happy with the idea.

Next smash likely will be a reboot with much less characters, Dixie could be easily cut again.

Personally I'm cool with just DK, Diddy, Dixie, and K.Rool. Too me that just feels "perfect". I'm a HUGE DK fan but I personally wouldn't need anymore DK representation after that BUT if I had to choose one kong it would definitely be Cranky. I mean he is the OG Kong afterall and it would be funny to school fools with this old and irritated geezer. I could definitely see him being one of my new go-to "troll" characters. Characters I use when I'm on a winning streak and decide to just **** around and troll my friends with to see if I could beat them with a lame/trolly character while they're still using their mains. Pichu, Game & Watch, Jigglypuff, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena come to mind.

i honestly don't even know who i would want after dixie in general. the only other characters besides her i wanted were wolf and simon belmont and we have those now.

though if they were gonna go with another dk rep, i'd also choose cranky. with shovel knight as an assist and scrooge mcduck not having a ghost of a chance, its basically the only option for a pogo character.

Yeah, same here. After Dixie, I'd be totally set. Anyone else from DK (i.e. Cranky, Funky, Tiny, Lanky, Chunky, Kiddy, etc.) would just be a bonus for me.

I mean, if I HAD to choose anymore, it'd be Cranky and Funky. Cranky IS the OG DK, and using his cane to fight would be pretty fun. Surfboard-based attacks aside, Funky could quite possibly work as a DK clone.

Dixie truly would complete the ultimate representation of DK for this game, so I'd be content for long long time. Of course I might fiddle with Cranky as the final DK-rep incase Dixie makes it for hypothetical "Smash 6", since it's been glaring to see the original DK missing Smash as well after all these years of being basically arcade icon next to Mario and others. And pogo jumping would definitely be a great mechanic for him.

I certainly hope so, especially with how I wish to see Brawl-era Luigification back for other clones that make it (or at least be more developed from there). Dixie definitely would be one of them incase she's an Echo in this game.

But again this'd imply we'd be stuck with girly Diddy for a very long while. Hmm.

Didn't expect that first. Because PAON already sort of established Funky as the 4th Kong since King of Swing. And Cranky was playable first in Barrel Blast. It's also cool how Retro kept the PAON designs for Dixie, Cranky and Funky. Shame they didn't reuse anything else.

After Dixie, DK as a franchise is completely fine in terms of Smash content.

Controversial opinion here, but I've always held a similar view of the DK crew that I've held with Sonic and friends. The originals are cool. A new addition here or there keeps things fresh. Padding out the roster excessively starts to tarnish the series' identity a bit and makes the classic characters play less of a role, which is not cool.

Sonic was cool when he had Tails and Knuckles. Shadow was iffy but acceptable. But Jet? Silver? Espio? Rouge? Cream? Blaze? It started to get out of hand. DK64 really did the same thing in my eyes, padding out the roster with THREE kongs that no one really asked for, while Dixie disappeared. I wasn't a fan. Although the three new kongs are certainly better than Sonic's ever-growing stable of animal heroes, the principle remains the same.

Of course, I don't mind new characters, but sometimes it's better to keep it simple. Tropical Freeze figured that out and realized that the best action is to bring back the classics rather than make three random new heroes materialize out of thin air. And I applaud that choice.
