I'd be down for a Dixcord!
Then maybe you can be the one to create and run it.

Depending on who follows the Dixie Twitter joins it, you can make the most trusted ones staff. Raise a nice little community like the K Rool one. It can be DK focused, while also still being all about her and her future to Smash.

I know some of you all are busy, but this is something to consider in a time almost every potential Smash character who is not playable yet have their own servers. If there is a time to grow and show that Dixie is highly wanted character, it is now.

Hello Dixie fans, I am glad you all are still kicking in the light of Smash DLC. Seeing this much passion for Dixie is enough to warm my heart. I heard that InASnowBoundLand InASnowBoundLand did a fantastic job managing the Dixie for Smash Twitter, and with over 600 followers to boot. Which is not too bad.

Although, wouldn't it make sense to take things a step further? Best to find some good ways to maintain and gather that support for the future of Smash to come when the time is right. Perhaps consider making a Dixie Discord since none really exists. I would like to see SnowBoundLand or BirthNote BirthNote run it, since either of them would make great leaders for Dixie support. I would even be one of the first to be on board if that were a thing. It's at least something to think about, look at the King K Rool fans. They started small with their K Rool server after Smash 4 were released and eventually grew overtime. Soon after K Rool got in Ultimate, the server blew up in size and became an official Smashcord. Wouldn't that be something nice to look forward to if it were happen?

Again, it is up to all of you. But I feel there should be a Dixie for Smash server and the Twitter has a big enough following to advertise it if it were made, just as a way for very passionate and talented Dixie fans to keep in mind. As the last Nintendo All Star, she should at least grow in numbers and have a form of hub to make it show. Just an idea to think about.
Personally, I would love to head this up, and make it possible, but I have very little free time these days. As well as other reasons, as I will go onto explain.

I have been involved in the Smash speculation and character support scene since 2001. Its been a very long time. Much has changed, and during the past year I have reflected a lot on myself as a participant in this “community”.

One thing I find to be my primarily weakness is that I am a very non-social person. I rarely interact with people within the community on matters not pertaining to Smash Bros., and that really hurt me as member of the community especially over the course of this decade. When I do interact with people, I prefer to do it one on one. For this reason, I was never a “leader” even within the Ridley and Roy fanbases despite possibly being among the original Ridley supporters, and being perhaps the first poster to make a major push for Roy’s return.

I was a very prominent supporter, yes, but never a leader. I actually tried seeking out possible users to be leaders for Dixie (people whom are as passionate about Dixie as we are), and they unfortunately turned it down due her prospects being unlikely.

Even for Dixie Kong essay, a lot of time was spent talking about how much she meant to me personally. My weakness is that I am pretty much a solo operator, and very poor at networking. I appreciate the praise the essay got, but my primary hope for it was to convince those who are either unfamiliar or barely familiar with Dixie or convince those who don’t think highly of her that she is a gaming icon that is long overdue for Smash Bros.’s roster. I do not think I moved the needle at all in regards to those two groups.

My hope is that the Dixie fanbase will look to how to convince the larger Smash Bros. fanbase, that she really is a character that is not only long overdue, but really special.

For this to happen, we will need to utilize all of our own unique gifts and talents and successfully utilize all of them together. I can be gifted with prose, and I have an extensive knowledge of speculation and character support history. However, in many other areas, I am very lacking. I am not an artist at all for example, and art goes a very long way for building character support. I am also not involved at all in social media, and that is absolutely critical for growing character support in the present age.

For the discord, I know someone that could work well in setting it up, and knowing who to invite. However, in terms of actually moderating it, and being on top of it all the time, he probably will not be able to do so. However, I am sure something could be worked out.

It is going to take many of us to make it so that a future Dixie discord server is pleasant and prosperous.

I have never run a discord or message board before, but here are some rules I think that should be set up for it to make it a nice and cozy place to support Dixie Kong:

1. Do not flame other characters or other character fanbases. Its okay to give an opinion on a character that you do not like “I do not see the appeal to them” or “personally, I have had very unpleasant experiences with that fanbase”. Do not say, “xxxxx is garbage” or “xxxxxx’s fanbase is fully of poopyheads.” Negative opinions on something are acceptable, but don’t use foul or demeaning language in regards to them.

2. Do not throw a temper tantrum about character confirmations. Most prospective characters do not have universal appeal across the Smash fanbase. As earlier, you can voice your dissatisfied thoughts on them, but keep it mature. We will probably get at least one more “Byleth” or “Piranha Plant” for Fighters Pass 2, so brace yourselves for the possibility of characters happening that very few of the Dixie fanbase wanted.

3. Do not talk about politics and culture wars issues. First hand, I know Dixie fans with diverse political and cultural outlooks. Many online communities have been torn apart in regards to this stuff. Many current events are also depressing and stressful for both the political (all over the spectrum) and apolitical, so the server should be a respite from that. I think its another sign to Dixie’s “Mario appeal” that people with vastly different cultural and political beliefs think very highly of her.

4. Do not get very argumentative with others. I know the most contentious debate among Dixie fans is what kind of fighter she should be, with one side of the spectrum being fine with even a Chrom-style echo fighter to the other side wanting Dixie to be a completely unique fighter. This debate probably will continue to happen. Be respectful and polite to others even if their opinion is completely opposite to your own. At the end of the day, we are all Dixie fans, and we need to work together if she is going to have any hope of building her fanbase.

5. Don’t use foul language and post NSFW images or porn. That kind of stuff chases away more people than you think. Keep it clean, and don’t be mean. Don’t talk about NSFW stuff.

This stuff might seem like common sense, but its basically rare from what I have seen.

As for the name of the discord, these are the two ideas I have:

1. The Barrel of Support Buddies (after this thread)

2. The Pink Berets

Any other suggestions for a possible name?

ChronoBound ChronoBound It is always so nice to see you here. I consider you a smash historian you know a lot of what happened in the past between fandoms and it’s very interesting to read.
Thank you very much for your compliment, it really means a lot. I have said before that this thread is probably the last place in the Smash community I have a place in, and part of it is due to the kindness of users like you. I have something special I am working on that you and some others would probably be very interested in. It deals with character support in the past, and it does relate to Dixie in a very interesting way.

I want to explain the anxiety around Dixie Kong in particular.

She is an old character, debuting in 1995. As a result, she has been a big part of the Donkey Kong Country games for a long time. From the very beginning, Dixie Kong was openly feminine, but just as capable as Diddy Kong and even had some exclusive abilities like hovering.

For a Nintendo character, this was a big deal, because the most prominent female Nintendo characters at the time were either relegated to being a feminine damsel in distress (or being playable as a hero only a single time like Peach was) or wore a suit to disguise their looks. She was designed to counteract that: not only was she girly, but s capable hero, just as good at rescuing DK as Diddy Kong was. At the time, Dixie Kong was a very standout character due to this. Though she co-starred in DKC2, she graduated to main character in DKC3, though that entry is overlooked.

She even made appearances in all those odd Paon games like DK Jungle Climber and DK Barrel Blast. The quality of those games are debatable, but her appearances in them emphasize that she was considered a core part of the series even in that awkward period in the series' life.

Anyway, Dixie took two (maybe three) big hits to her memorability.
  • First: she was not in Donkey Kong 64. This was the big new DK game for the system, and the opening DK Rap has since become more iconic than the game itself.
  • Second, though perhaps not as significant, is that, along with many other elements Rare introduced, Dixie did not make it into Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat. It was the big new DK game for the GameCube, but the only familiar face was Donkey Kong, and the game was overlooked due to its unusual control scheme.
  • Third, she was not in Donkey Kong Country Returns. It was the huge comeback of Donkey Kong Country as a series of platformers, but much of the focus was on paying tribute to the very first Donkey Kong Country, which, of course, hadn't introduced Dixie yet.
For a lot of kids, like myself, who grew up with the Nintendo 64, GameCube, and Wii, Dixie was a non entity. I did not form my attachment to her until my curiosity led me to play the older DKC games through Virtual Console, and again when Tropical Freeze came out.

As a result, Dixie is in a unique situation: she, as a character, probably isn't going to be "phased out" of the DKC series after Tropical Freeze brought her back and re-cemented her significance in the series. But Dixie's status has changed: she's gone from "series staple" to "old face that has been brought back". DKC Returns didn't have Dixie Kong, but, 4 years later, DKC Tropical Freeze did. However, that was in 2014. We got a re-release on the Nintendo Switch in 2018, where it sold a lot more, but it still wasn't a new game. Dixie Kong hasn't appeared in any spin-offs ever since her one brand-new appearance in 2014, meaning her status as a "series staple" hasn't had a chance since then to truly re-establish itself.

This means all Dixie Kong has on her side, regarding merits for a Smash inclusion, is history. King K. Rool was in a similar boat, and in much more dire straits due to his and the Kremlings' absence in modern DKC games. However, King K. Rool had sheer fan demand on his side, due to a combination of being a part of two very well-loved boss fights (DKC1 / DKC2) and Smash fans' desire for more villains and bad guys in Smash. So K. Rool had both history and fan demand, while Dixie only has the former. Neither character had the "series staple" advantage that Diddy Kong always had, but aside from that, as history ended up demonstrating, K. Rool was at an advantage.

And now, Dixie fans are at a standstill. Dixie Kong being playable in Smash seems like it would happen in a future entry, depending on if DKC gets another game in time. But we don't know how future Smash games will be like. Considering Sakurai's comments that future Smash games will almost definitely be getting cuts, it would be very bittersweet to have an old Nintendo character from the mid-90s join, but only in a game where Everyone Is Not Here After All.

And now comes the sad part: seemingly, the only character DLC on the horizon is bundles with a character, a stage, music, and spirits. While a Tropical Freeze stage with TF (and DKC3) music would be wonderful, the problem is how Nintendo is marketing the DLC: they are aiming for as many different audiences as possible. And Dixie Kong is, more or less, part of the "Nintendo game playing audience" that Smash already markets to by default.

All of this means that, while Dixie Kong was considered a "safe" inclusion in both Smash 4 and Ultimate, she ended up in neither and may not make it into Ultimate's DLC at all. I'm willing to bet that, if Dixie Kong was a standalone character with no stage or spirits (heck, even no music), plenty of people would buy her, presumably due to a reduced price to account for the lack of bells and whistles ($4.99, $1 less than a Challenger Pack). But, so far, the only character like this is Piranha Plant, and it looks like it may stay that way.

In other words, the safest option for Dixie Kong's inclusion literally may not be an option. Bummer.

So, I hope that explains why so many Dixie Kong fans are on edge. We in her support thread are trying to keep our heads held high, however. We're not giving up until the bitter end.

(Another note: every single game Dixie has ever appeared in, she has been playable. Just one exception: the Smash series. Hmmm.)
I made a post explaining why Some Of Us Are Worried, but that we're keeping our chin up.

Adorable monkey girl plays music for the soul.

On a side note, I'm flattered that I was thought of for the Dixcord, but I don't really have any experience with that platform. (And also like TheYungLink and Birthnote, my free time has grown limited). I do wish the best of luck to whoever decides to run it.

Pink Berets is great, but Dixcord sounds as amazing. It got to be a great one, like how the Kuttthroats worked for the K Rool fans.

Either way, the sooner this server happens, the better. If anyone is up for starting it, you be I will be on board. Even help with some of the networking. Almost every character has a discord, from Geno (Star Road) to Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight FOR REAL). That is why I have a good feeling we should expand to different networks than just Twitter since there would be better ways to really engage the current supporters and gain new ones along the way.

Pink Berets gets my vote. Dixcord is just asking for lewd and inappropriate jokes to be made at its expense.

Why would it be called that?
It'd be a portmanteau of Dixie Kong's Discord similar to how we have NAir as Smash Bros slang for Neutral Aerial. Dixcord rolls off the tongue sure, but it's waaaaay too easy to take that in the wrong direction. It could reach a point where people had no idea it was about Dixie Kong.

Aside from potentially sounding unfortunate, Dixcord doesn't sound elegant.

Di-ks-kord

A consonant sound followed immediately by the same consonant sound separated only by the "s" sound.

I vote Pink Berets.

Krystal's omission would also be a shock to me, considering how much more popular she was back then, and how the Star Fox series in general was more active and thus more people were receptive to a 4th rep compared to now.
Krystal not making it into Brawl was such a huge blow on us Krystal fans since starting around that time after Commend she become so irrelevant or the Star Fox franchise has per say in recent years before Zero. I really wish Krystal made it into Brawl because now she almost seems like a pipedream that will never become a reality.

That's a stretch. Bandanna Waddle Dee would be Piranha Plant-tier. If Kirby gets another fighter, I vote for Galacta Knight.
Honestly, Bandana Dee is a A list Nintendo All Star that does deserve to be in. He is basically the 4th wheel of the Kirby characters with the other 3 already being in.

Found an interesting concept for a Double Dash 2 featuring our favorite Monkey Girl!

(DK would be paired with Funky or Cranky in this case).
I don't know why Nintendo or whoever makes the Mario Kart games didn't just put Dixie and Funky into Double Dash and paired them with Diddy and DK. Dixie being paired up with Diddy would make more sense than Diddy being paired with DK with both being lightweights.

So Pink Berets it is.

If anyone were to start this server, who would be the best choice to do it?

And by the way, toe nails added a lot of individuality to Dixie.

Here's a question: do y'all like Dixie with or without toenail polish?
Without. She looked a little too dolled up back in the day, like she had too much makeup. Eyelashes are fine and so are the kneepads, but the nail polish felt unnecessary. She's clearly a girly girl without it.

If we get a 3D DK game ever again in my lifetime and K.Rool and Kremlings are in it I will die a VERY happy man. Yes I hope its better than DK64.

Sigh....

I find it weird that the Donkey Kong Country games (and Earthbound) aren't on here. I get that maybe Square-Enix wouldn't cooperate for Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4/5/6, or even Mario RPG, but you'd think that DKC1 would be on here by now at the absolute least.

It's an absolute no-brainer that the DKC trilogy should be on the Switch Online collection. Unless they're waiting for the right time... Hmm...

Who knows for sure.

Maybe they're waiting for Dixie Kong's announcement to announce the SNES trilogy for Nintendo Switch Online.

At least, that's what I choose to believe.

OK so it seems like Pink Berets will be the Discord name. I don't mind it personally, but as for the discord in general definitely take Chronobound's guidelines to heart. I don't want our fandom to get weird in any sexual ways especially; if it does, I'll leave for good. Dixie has no sex appeal (to me at least) unlike 2 other female Kongs and it should stay that way. That's not her thing and that's not why she's getting a discord. I see her as a chimp (which I think are cool) with a hair-based superpower that happens to be girly. Our main priority should be her getting into Smash, and other games like DK and Mario spinoffs.

Also, it's perfectly fine to be passionate, in the sense that we're confident that she's a great character on her own, who would make a great addition to Smash. Let's not tear down other characters that we perceive as threats. It'll make us look insecure and scared, which is a troll's favorite target. Bear in mind that the characters being attacked may have overlapping fans with Dixie. For example, I'd like Master Chief to be in, but his thread has people constantly throwing shade at Doomguy. I can see why, but I like both series. That promotes an "Us vs Them" mentality, which gets toxic fast. Dixie vs K. Rool was our most toxic example, but Anybody vs Fire Emblem is the longest running example across SSB history.

As for real life stuff, let's leave that out unless it relates to DK and maaybe gaming. Obviously we all can't be on 24/7 cuz we have lives to live, and if something IRL is interfering with actively supporting that's completely understandable. Let's be encouraging and supportive of people who are having a tough time, and to a reasonable degree. Anything beyond that level of support should be spoken to and about privately. I'm sorry if I sound like an ***, but it is what it is. In regards to politics, culture wars and real life, we should avoid that too. I doubt I'd be recognized as a fan of DK if you saw me IRL and I'm certain we all have different backgrounds. We'll no doubt be taking unknown shots at each other if we get wrapped up in that, so it's best not to do it to start with. The only exceptions I can think of is if the news reports that people who play DK games are more likely to jump on crocodiles, a Gorilla holding a DS, or how video game music affects the brain. Harmless stuff like that is fine.

That's it for the Discord ATM. I'm thinking of drafting some discord rules in the future.

100% agreed with all this stuff. If rules haven't been made for it already, though, an important way to make the Discord welcoming is to infract / ban anyone who is being bigoted. Transgender or disabled Dixie fans will feel less welcome if jokes or statements that tear them down are being said in the server.

Also, my suggestion as a joke rule / serious rule: anyone who posts "d*cks out for Dixie" immediately gets banned.

T'is hurts my stomach to look at this and see DK classified in the second category, rather than under "Major Franchises".

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Gee, if only there was a really easy and obvious fourth DK rep they could add? One with a ponytail and pink beret?

I know you posted this in the Dixie thread but I'm more confused as to why Metroid is at the top but not Animal Crossing.

Edit: oops, I didn't even read "4+ reps", I thought it just meant in terms of financial success. Ignore my post lol

DK64 already showed us that DK doesn't work in 3D. Sure, a radically different 3D take on the series could work, but I don't want to take the chance (especially if it robs us of DKC6/DKCR3). I say keep DK, Kirby, and Yoshi in 2D where they belong, keep 3D Mario nice and linear like Galaxy and 3D World, and make some brand-new IPs for 3D platformers.
