What's the one for "guy who liked that one song that's in that one commercial, but before it was in the commercial, but he still likes it because he doesn't believe in 'selling out,' but he wants you to know the commercial didn't turn him onto it?"

Like a 2?

What are your guy's favorite albums of 2014?
CRUSH by 2NE1 was damn good. In typical YG fashion, most songs have something that I don't like (ex: a trap section of the chorus on one song, a ****ty line or two on another), but as a whole it's real nice.

Spellbound by TVXQ (a repackage of Tense that came out in January) also came out this year and I almost forgot about it. I think I like this one more than crush. It's hella good.

Dude there's not even any throat singing on that chart.

Also I had no idea there's a new Kendrick coming out. Hype mode initiated.

Also this is ambrose. This kid is going places, I swear

This is one of the ones I listened to. Didn't start even kind of doin' it for me until the piano came in. Also listened to Our Basement, which I dug a lot more. I think having the vocals in there helped because I had something easier to hold onto.

Generally, I find myself enjoying the songs in spite of the trumpet though, rather than because of it, so I'm thinking it may not be for me.

Uh.

New How To Dress Well is shaping up nicely.

sounds like what Arnold from Hey Arnold! would listen to now #highestcompliment

edit: Pogo's got some interesting stuff. His shtick has kind of worn off though. And I don't think he's done anything that tops Alice.

editmoar: Actually, Lead Breakfast or whatever it's called is pretty dope. It's the Pulp Fiction one.

im curious what you listen to
im not really a music person at all unfortunately. usually i just play incidental stuff when i need to focus on something, and since that can just be fulfilled through what im exposed to via hobbies (i play rhythm games albeit badly), actively searching for new music to listen to just isnt something i ever got accustomed to. tl;dr im casual scum lol

Oh look I changed this
Just bought bravely default for 40 dollars because im a dirty pirate

(would have gotten Fire Emblem but I figured why not)
Oh man. Even though I was slightly disappointed with the new Fire Emblem I would have still recommended it over BD. Both are good games though.

SMTIV is where it is at at the 3ds though.

Piracy is a security flaw that doesn't get addressed by major consoles. The failure of the developer to adapt security procedures to account for hackers cracking the integrity of their system goes ignored resulting in cracked copies of games to be played on the system or on another system i.e. a computer. Publishers willingly produce and distribute games for this format aware of the weaknesses and the repercussions of having their game potentially cracked and distributed without their permission. The frequency that conversations of this nature focus on morals, support, and individual choice is indicative of the failure of the industry to provide sufficient security so that users aren't able to reverse engineer and distribute illicit copies of games for any given system.

Assuming that there is no formatting measure available to keep pirating from occurring on any given game format, the burden of responsibility lies with distributors for putting in disincentives against people downloading pirating copies. Low cost, easy access, and an appealing game in general is a direction for publishers to push. Indie game developers and indie games seem to intrinsically understand this concept. However, big developers seem to have unrealistic expectations for their game and run up their budget to unrealistic degrees resulting in them requiring to hit above five million copies in order to generate a profit.

Take for example Tomb Raider which sold 3.4 million in its first month. According to an article in Kotaku, Square Enix stated that they were disappoited that they didn't sell six million copies within that time frame. Contrast expectations of that game with sales of Dark Souls 2 where sales after two weeks grossed a little over a quarter of a million and PR from the developer indicated that they were pleased with the sales of the game. Companies don't view the success of a game by long term sales statistics. The most potent data to a market research team is going to be a relatively immediate time frame when the game gets published. By the time the game is cracked and available to be played on a computer, the company has likely exhausted and distilled the data provided to make the decision for their next game release. Developers in a sense attempt to keep out loss of revenue from piracy by releasing new titles from high volume games. For instance, the Call of Duty series and for a jRPG there is the Final Fantasy series and the Tales series. However, considering the root of these games and the level of depth added in each installment, I often feel that we've arrived at a point where new installments are more often than not added padding to a popular brand name and another title to a genre, rather than a new innovative game that was created to stand out for itself. I feel that corporations are less interested in striving for a game that needs to be made, one that challenges stereotypes and conceptions of a genre, and instead creates games that will be bought in mass according to the data of previous games.

I don't believe that most producers for PS4 and Xbox titles release titles that make a personal statement about themselves and rather make games that are conservative, expected, formulaic, and will safely bring in a projected amount of income which is the bottom line to the company. Sony as a company is revealed to be down in all sectors aside from their music and financial investment branches. The company isn't generating revenue by the sale of their game system or their games. Although the products they sell generate some capital, that capital gets multipled by the aptitude of their investment team. When Nintendo set up Reggie Fils-Aime as President of Nintendo America he came with a varied experience in business and sales, however had no history of directing or game development. When game companies elevate people specializing in sales, they stress sales because it's their specialty. However, when looking at the actual products that game sales are dwindling and people are buying less games than they did a decade ago. According to an article on Ars Technica, of the roughly 781 million games registered on Steam accounts, data shows that only 493 million or 63% of these games have been played even once.

When money becomes the front and center issue then the games themselves hold questionable value to the audience that purchases them. Games bought shouldn't be the focus of game companies, but rather whether they have made a game that is being played. If that remains contested to the gamer then pirating is simply a factor of doing business in the modern era.

I haven't actually played SMT4, but based purely on second hand knowledge of the game, I'm inclined to agree with Raz.

I like how Acrostic has started putting all of his good posts in spoiler tags just because of how long they are as a service to Dgames.

SMT4 is decidedly the least awesome of the 3 games in that pile.
I disagree, FE:A had poor level design and was really easy compared to old Fire Emblems. BD had CRAZY GOOD combat system and boss battles, but the game fell short after the fifth chapter, and only ringabell/edea were really likeable.

SMT had a really good combat system and honestly the worst I can think of the game is the overworld traversal, but opinions and all. But as you said, "the least awesome" They are all good games.

Poor level design is about its only flaw. I do agree that the levels lacked variance and were essentially big squares. I think part of that comes down to the inability to know what type of units the player is going to have, to design around it. You can always tell in the other FEs that units are kept in mind when designing the maps, be it accommodating fliers, cavs or what have you. But if they did that in Awakening and you had reclassed to having no fliers, then you'd be up **** creek if you hit a map designed for them. While I did miss the varied objectives, it did not bother me.

Every other aspect of the game is spectacular, save for the difficulty tuning between Hard and Lunatic. Lunatic is crazy hard, to the point that it's totally restrictive. Hard is pretty solid and enjoyable though. Characters, classes, abilities, marriage system.... everything else is top notch. The DLC stories and depth of the support conversations was a welcome breath of fresh air from FE10's bare-bones supports.

That said, I place FE6, FE7 and FE10 above Awakening when it comes to "I want to play this for a challenge." because the Hard modes are simply better tuned. That, however, is mainly a result of the drawback of using an overworld map that allows for grinding.

I completely agree with you on BD.

As for SMT4, I just found it lacking in comparison to the Persona/Devil Survivor series. It is likely that this is primarily a result of my personal tastes. I value story (Persona), characters (Both) more than most, which is not something main series SMT games focuses on. I felt the alignment choices were boring and predictable. And while I don't mind the battle system, I tend to favor DeSu's battle system due to the SRPG aspects.

SMT4 wasn't bad, but there was nothing in it that would make me want to come back and play it again.

Awakening brought me back for 4 playthroughs and 400 hours.

BD has me at around 80 hours.

Now, let me ask, what music do you think of when you think of avant garde? Also, how do they teach it in Music Appreciation?
