It's a good thing I haven't watched Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Crisis averted.

Also watching Bardull's video was cool. I liked him going through the thought process of it being from Swiss because of the ****ing hot cocolate. BW is not what I expected. A lot of really interesting gifts. I'm afraid my recipient might be the last to get theirs, but it'll be there before Christmas, I swear.

The plan all along.

Sorry it's like super-impersonal and doesn't have a note from July, I didn't have her on hand.

It should be dishwasher-safe but the cautious Time Lord should hand-wash it.
Well I've fallen deep into your clutches... Damn....

No worries man! It's super cool and I'm going to use it EVERY DAY.

I will be very cautious with it, it's too awesome to break!

I haven't really been keeping track of who has or hasn't been sending presents, but I do have the list showing who got who, so if it's after christmas send me a PM and be like "I have received no gift yet"; it is possible it was shipped out but will be arriving later.

My phone is failing to let me transfer the pictures, so it will have to wait until I have access to a camera. For now, I will say that I received the hat I am currently wearing which is a baseball cap starring Captain America's Shield and a book I have heard him reference multiple times by an author we both know (American Gods by Neil Gaiman).

I also received a letter and the first thing I noticed upon opening it was a hand drawn US Flag with a bald eagle in front with the word "AMERICA!" written under it. It includes two other drawings which need to be posted as well.

Thanks a ton bro, I really enjoyed it.

Got my stuff today! I love it. My wife is not thrilled about the posters though and won't let me hang them (because she "is not a 19 year old boy"). I'll post pictures soon.

Thanks to who ever sent it. Let me know if I could possibly return the posters though. I don't want them to sit rolled up, collecting dust. You did a good job researching exactly what I like, and I don't want your money to go to waste.

Tell her you want your own revolving poster space. You'll only hang one and it won't be an immediately public area and when you get bored with it you'll take it off, roll it up, then put it away and put up a different one.

Compromise!

We'll see. Our apartment isn't huge. I can't think of many places she'd even consider it, especially when we have other pictures to hang. We'll see though. She's feeling sick tonight and kinda cranky. I'll ask later.

Lol, you might want to wait until the second package arrives then. I have no clue when it will though because Amazon hasn't provides a tracking number despite it being shipped Sunday.

I actually wouldn't do that though, I'd be more in line with what EE said. Ultimatums of "you can't do this" aren't healthy in a relationship, so whenever anyone had a negative ultimatium in any sort of relationship with me I just cut them out. Can't quite do that with a wife, so you do the next best thing and try to figure out the "why". Maybe she just doesn't feel comfortable with Handorin's likes and thinks less of him when they are displayed, or maybe she's embarrassed when her friends see those sort of things, maybe she values the apartment's decor more than she values Handorin's interest in the posters, etc., etc. They all sound bad but they really aren't and can be dealt with. Once you find out the why you can figure out a potential solution. Even if the posters aren't a big deal to Handorin, it's still healthier to come to a compromise.

If a compromise isn't possible, a trade is possible. Maybe there's no space in the apartment and she's embarrassed by the posters. If she can't get over that, that's something she'll have to come to terms with, but Handorin can hardly just say "puttin' them up anyway" to his SO. He could however say "if we get a bigger place, I get to put the posters up" and hold her to it. It shows he appreciates her desires but is not willing to give up on his simply because she has conflicting interests.

But negative decisions and ultimatums are bad. Positive decisions are okay. "I'm going to wear this hat" or "I'm going to buy this game" are different than "You cannot wear that hat" or "You cannot buy that game".

From a positive decision, the other party can explain why they don't want it and you can come to a compromise. "I don't want you to wear that hat because this is a formal event and I'll feel embarrassed" can result in moving forward. The guy can say "Oh, okay. I'll wear it the day after then because this is important to you and I don't want you to be upset". Simply saying "you can't wear that hat" leads the guy to only two options: "**** you" or "I'll do exactly as you command", neither of which are positive.

"I don't want you to buy that game because it sucks up all your time and I feel neglected" can result in a positive conversation about how much attention the girlfriend needs and how much time the boyfriend spends on video games. Maybe the girlfriend would need a hobby or maybe the guy needs to cut down on his video game time some.

I play a lot of games and it is a part of my life, it is how I unwind. It'll always be there. All my previous romantic interests have known this. My current girlfriend plays games but not very often. When I bought Skyrim, I bought her a harvest moon game for the DS so that way when I was absorbed into Skyrim, she could be absorbed into her game. When it turned out that she liked Skyrim more than I did, I played Starcraft on the PC. Neither of us were completely starved for attention and both had entertainment options.

This kind of compromise has strengthened our relationship a lot and helped demonstrate to her that I wasn't picking "video games over her" when I chose to play a game after getting home from work and helped her have her own in-home identity in relationship to video games.

WHat OS is talkin' 'bout here is just a single cut above common sense, honestly. You don't get to _______ is just always bad news bears. Obviously it's something trivial that Hando doesn't care much about (although I think it's a damn shame that he obviously likes them a lot and doesn't get to enjoy them due to ultimatum), but this could just as easily lead to the same **** with something not-so-trivial

Missed this. Thanks, and LOL, I would have died if Swiss sent me that stuff as a present. It's a shame he didn't partake in this event (or did he? Dun dun dunnn.)

WRT BW's present: Cool cup!

OS, is there anything you're not knowledgeable about?

:phone:
  • Programming languages past their base framework
  • asianic languages not including Korean, Japanese, or Chinese,
  • sport statistics (but their history and analytic engines I'm fine with)
  • construction and its associated activities (though I'm learning woodworking this year so I should have a good base after the year ends)
  • HTML5 (HTML isn't exactly a programming language)
  • the history of south africa and how it became a largely white area (something to do with the Dutch East India company in the mid 1600s I think but how did it STAY white?)
  • Math of all kinds past the mental area (not including statistics, of which I know enough to get by)
  • Oragami and other single-craft-based activities (with the exception of bead art, tapestry, and clay-based craft, although you can't really call clay "single-craft")
  • How to play Terran past a intermediate level in Starcraft 2
  • Makeup, lotion, and other "girl" accessories
  • HVAC appliances (working on it)
  • Active relaxation, and how it can be achieved through activities rather than thought ('zen' state, often why people enjoy RPGs in a completely different way than a massage but both are relaxing); I have a few theories but don't understand it enough to really lay it out
  • Luck and how our perception of it determines what is actually lucky, and whether or not luck is a quantifiable "thing" or if it is merely a measurement of environmental reactions (been working on this one from time to time but the conversations rarely go anywhere)
  • The reason for the specific feeling of intense hunger occurring all at once rather than being a gradual thing (why is this an evolutionary advantage? I have guesses but nothing concrete)
  • my local wal-mart's floor plan (it doesn't make any sense, they put the cashier's to the right when everyone else puts produce there because people instinctively walk towards their dominant hand [majority right handed in america] and being near fresh fruit and vegetables make people feel better about buying sugary **** that they came for! Even when you enter the right hand door, going right just leads you to fish and pet food! I can't see it being accidental but it can't be intentional either!)
  • Why people use the default smashboards skin instead of revolution or fluid revolution
  • What actual chemical change occurred that changed in my brain upon growing up and playing competitive games that has made single player games more boring due to my brain saying "I know how to beat it" and not feeling the need to prove myself because I know I can
  • The growth pattern of black mold present in grout in the presence of lingering amounts of bleach dilution
  • Thermostats and how they are determined to accurately gauge the temperature of a whole house (or are they?)
  • How a water sealant on a chimney actually breaks down; what CAUSES the break down process? Sunlight? Wind? Water? Bacteria?

There's more but those are the ones off the top of my head from the last couple of days.

I think the difference is what most people consider a "wall". Less than a page of content != a wall unless you just hate reading.
