I was wondering if there were any newbie games going at the moment. I would really like to learn how to play however I have been unable to fully grasp the game.

Join Dexter or Bingo and you'll be fine. Newbie games don't happen *that* often, so you might as well join a regular game.

BlueSpot is my IRL friend. He says he wants to try mafia and seems pretty genuine on wanting to learn.

I'd start with a smaller one, like Bingo. It will be far less confusing.

And joining a game is the best way to learn. I was hesitant to join my first game because I had no idea how to play, and then I realized that the only way I WOULD learn is by actually playing.
You must be warned that it's fairly time-consuming, though :O
