This is just something that's been bugging me, so I'm just getting it off of my chest.

I thought that the first Dead Space was a rock solid horror game with strong atmosphere and game play in it's first half but sadly lost steam and ended up being repetitious and boring in the second half. Regardless, I really enjoyed the first half of the game and when Dead Space 2 was shown at E3 I was excited for it and was hoping for major improvements.

And then EA came out with the "Your Mom Hates Dead Space 2" advertising campaign. Have you seen these? Just look at this crap:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKkPFDEiC6Q

Those advertisements don't make think of a biological/psychological horror game. Instead it feels like they're advertising a generic gory FPS to 12 year olds. Seriously, EA? What on earth made you think this was a good idea? Why are you trying to sell Dead Space 2 to 12 year olds? WHY!?

People who are into horror games already know what Dead Space is, since it's the second one. They're just trying to attract even more people; I don't think they would've tried this approach with DS1, or if the game wasn't so popular among horror gamers already.

but personally I think the ads are hilarious :p

It's a little cheeseball, yea.

I wouldn't call it worst ever though.

I personally thought this was brilliant.

You're all taking things way too seriously. Raging over a video game advertisement? What are you, 40?

Dead space was awful at being a horror game. Once you take that away all you have left is a weak, slow third person shooter with a couple of unique weapons.

Call of Duty is awful at being a war game. Once you take all of that away all you have is a weak, slow Doom clone with a couple of unique weapons.

The worst part about Dead Space 2 is Isaac's voice actor. Sounds like a teenager from band camp and instead being the strong, silent protagonist, he's one of those annoying characters that you just deal with having to play as. Moar liek Isaac Goes to Band Camp 2. They also made the mistake of having him show his face.

I'm not a big cod player, but I think that its genre is fps, not "war game". And it's definitely not bad. This was cute, though.

EA is terrible at marketing in a non ******** way, and they don't care because they're rich as hell.

Makes me sad, because I'm pretty psyched for Dead Space 2.

switch is a stupid troll, why do people talk to him seriously?

@ the OP: you probably hate it because you play smash bros. and you realize (unlike this game's target audience) that it takes more than blood and guns to make a good video game. people are shallow.

Switch, stop acting like you're good at trolling.

It kind of makes me sad, really. DS1 had a ton of potential that I was hoping would be carried over in the sequel. If just hope that it's all just bad advertising and the game doesn't really suck.

If I didn't believe I was right, I'd have no reason to talk at all.

You can enjoy dead space, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a ****ty horror game.

Meh. I might get DS2 (never played the original), but right now I'm too busy pissing myself while playing Amnesia to care.
I've heard Amnesia is pretty good, I have the demo sitting on my Steam account yet but I haven't been the mood for survival horror lately.

I should probably sit down and play it some time.

Are we going to do this "fighting over whose opinion on games is more legit" thing again?

Well, this is a video game site, I shouldn't be surprised.

Anyway, I'm looking for horror recs. Who says Dead Space is good, and who says it sucks?

I'd say Dead Space is okay, it was never really scary but it was suspenseful and atmospheric. It got pretty repetitious and fairly predictable about half way through the game, though. It's worth playing through at least once if you can find a copy for a low price.

But that's just my opinion.

Switch is kinda right about it being ****ty at being a HORROR game. It was a solid game, but if it scared you, get some skill, gee.

Also, Finalark, I'd suggest you do yourself a favor and not argue with people who aren't even remotely interested in a real debate.

You know guys it's actually sad that benign looking blogs always turn into heated arguments.

Do you REALLY have to take the bait? I mean after over 2 years of this place being around, you'd think people would learn the ropes.

Don't take the bait of people hating on a game you like, please.

I don't think its a very good advertisement. Not really funny (if thats the point). And as some pointed out, the game is meant for grown-*** people, not kids.

Why would your mom care about what games you play when you're 18?

That's basically my opinion. Solid game, atmospheric, but not scary at all.

Yeah, I should probably know better.

why the heck should you care? long as the gameplay is good the way they advertise the game shouldn't matter.

Because the advertisements are pretty clearly targeted at 12-year-olds.

If it works, 12-year-olds will start playing the game.

12-year-olds start playing the game, the game looses any substance and potential it may have had to be dumbed down into a generic TPS in which things occasionally jump out and go boo.

After all, why put effort into making something to entertain adults when you can just throw together a half-***** joke of a horror game and let the kiddies play it, raking in just as much cash at a lower cost?

Are you guys serious...?

This commercial is a ****ing joke, a farce, a comedy.

I can't believe you are all taking this commercial at face value when it's clearly meant to be an attempt at humor.

At first I thought it was just a few people who are hardasses and have no sense of humor, but now it's like everyone in this thread had their **** frozen off. You don't honestly believe they'd market a rated M game to "12-year-olds?"

It's just a joke people. Even if you didn't think it was funny, realize that maybe you just have no sense of humor instead of being a ****.

Maybe it's targeted at 20 year olds who think like 12 year olds. :awesome:

I think they were just trying to be funny. People don't like commercials, so you have to humor them, or else they won't watch it. An M rating means that most 12 year olds won't be able to get it without parental/guardian approval anyway.

Not necessarily.
Yes necessarily. Why would I talk if I thought I was wrong?

EDIT: If you're going to assert your opinion you should at least try harder to convince others. I don't see much point to it outside that purpose.
Nope. I'm not going to convince anyone of anything here anyways. I'll state my opinion and watch you get all upset, then explain why you're still wrong.
