You really don't have to use the bar to PA well...-_- meh...do whatever....

It'll be awhile until I get an SDG...I need to try PAing some Light/Standard songs than move up to improve that maybe.

Anyways...it takes quite awhile for your body to start using the proteins for energy. So you really don't have to worry until your metabolism shoots up like ALOT and you've lost a lot of weight...well it really depends on the person...but for most people it takes a long while before it'll happen.

Well, I started using the bar because I suddenly stopped trusting my balance. I used to play without bar at all and got decent scores but sometimes playing with the bar allows me to keep the beat steady while trying to maintain balance on awkward song like Kiss Kiss Kiss or Trip Machine Survivor. Sure I could PA them without my trusty bar but I figured it doesn't hurt to have that safety measure.

Me no likee to **** the bar. :D Just kidding, but nah, I don't use the bar... I think the game is more fun without it. I don't use mods, either, unless I really, really need to (i.e., Bag).

BeatofAngel, you don't necessarily need to go down to Light or Standard to work on your PA... there are plenty of songs on Heavy that you can work on. After a while, you'll just start to pick it up. Or, if you want, you could even play some Nonstops. Working on hitting Marvelous rather than Perfects could help.

All of my accomplishments are based on having fun... I just don't play Standard or Light because it's just not fun. Even if I can't AA Trip Machine Climax on Heavy, that's okay, because the song is hella fun, you know?

But if playing Light and Standard is fun for ya, by all means, use it to get your PA up. :D It's certainly helped other people.

I need to work on passing Paranoia Survivor Max. I usually lose it during the insane crossovers at the end...

You should have told me when you were in Phoenix, dude... I could have showed you how it's done ;) Anywho, the diagonal DDR is called Pump It Up (or PIU for short), and isn't a rip-off so much as simply another company's rhythm game. There has been much arguement over which copied which, since it's fairly obvious one was inspired by the other, but as I recall from all the arguements I read, they were both invented within a few months of each other or something... so it's an on-going debate. Some people prefer PIU over DDR... I'm not one of them, obviously ;) It does have more difficult songs overall, I'll give it that much.

I always get AAA on that one. The rest I get ABA or BBA or something.
You, sir, have no idea what you're talking about.

Heh heh, yes, very fun, I love playing it on a PS2 controller as well. However... more challenging? I think not, seeing as I rarely get an A on Max 300, but can AA it on controller with only 18 Greats...

Yeah, seriously, how can it be more challenging on a controller?

This somehow reminds me of my friend who finds it easier to play Stepmania with one hand... (she has yet to pass a 5 foot song)

I've only played this in the arcade once and its a good lot harder to acurately hit the buttons than on a home-pad. I don't know how you guys AAA and ABA[/sarcasm] songs like that.

I can assure you, being a player of both, controller style is not harder.
You are playing controller style with two hands right?

No, i ment the pads not the controlers. the metal pad at the arcades are a good lot different from the little plastic pads (and harder to use) that was really my point...

Nice way to contradict yourself there :p

Yes, arcade pads are different from pads you use at home, especially soft pads. I prefer the arcade though. ^^ I'm not sure if arcade pads are necessarily harder to use. Arcade version is harder because the perfect window is smaller, which makes it much harder to PA and such... But a transition from either one takes a bit of getting used to, no matter what. I'm not sure if the life bar is different either, I don't quite remember.

Anyways, I do have 2 AA's...it's just that I'm really not consistent at all. Like I barely manage a AA on Love Shine with 52 greats or something then another day I get like 26...which i just did recently. Other days I completely screw it up and get an A but that can happen.

In another forums, someone mentioned visual playing, where they use the blinking arrows at top and also actually look where the arrows coming up reach a certain point where you're supposed to hit for a perfect and then step to it. Would that help at all though? I've tried using help from the blinking arrows to keep track of the beat while playing the actual song, but I find that I'm too concentrated on that and I actually start screwing up the steps. I definitely look at them in the beginning of the song tho.

I don't think that would help much... if you're trying to PA a faster song (say... Max 300 on Standard), watching for the blinking arrows just isn't going to help. I just listen for the beat... I hardly even notice when the arrows are coming up and hitting the permanent arrows.

Sometimes, I'll even find myself staring at the middle of the screen and doing just fine. It's odd.

What was your first AA? I remember when I got my first Heavy AA... I didn't expect it at all, especially since it was a song I had never played before (Living in America). It's a good feeling, getting your first Heavy AA... not too many people get up that high.

My first heavy AA was Let's Groove. It was also my first sdg.

As for PA, I simply try to stay on beat and hope I get as little greats as possible. When chaos comes I sightread as best as possible.

Last week at party we were playing ddr having a good time when this 300 pound 2 by 4 of a boy wants to play. I hesitated but let him. He took one step and the pad broke. What should i say to prevent this without being rude? I can't exactly tell someone I don't know they are too fat to play my game.

Also I was messing around with some friends tonight and we got bored and weren't getting much of a workout so we decided to move our hands in the direction of the arrow as welll. It gets really intense really fast. Anyone do this?

Was your pad a hard pad or a mat? I guess it might be possible for the hard pad to break (if they're not very sturdy, but they might have a weight limit, I guess), but I wouldn't see the mat breaking, unless (and can someone tell me) if internal buttons are under the directional pads.

I see your point though, as I too have a hefty friend like that, and I wouldn't want to disclude him if I had the game.

Anyway, I've been contemplating getting a PS2 for a long time now, and I've been hoping to get DDR for it, but I might have to save up a little more if I want the game AND the pad. If I can't afford the hard pad, I might just get the mat. Any suggestions, and what's the difference between any of the DDR's?

First AA is Love Shine Heavy. I'm at 26 greats for it now...2nd is Sobakasu (Freckles) i think 35 greats? 36? Forgot. I havent really gone for anything else.

Difference between DDRs is the songlist. To my knowledge there are no 10 footers before DDRMax (6th Mix) and no freeze arrows. The newer ones tend to be harder. DDR Extreme I think has the most extensive songlist as well. It's recommended to get that one, I'd say. It also has Oni mode for when you get better. Only DDRMax (right?) and Extreme have Oni mode. What else...uhhh....yeah get Extreme.

Soft pads really only last until you get to heavy...practically. They usually break after like 6 months or less anyways, especially if you don't mod it. If you mod it, like tape it to plywood or something, it might last a little longer. Soft pads also tend to slide on the ground, which is really REALLY annoying. Starting off, soft pads are okay though. Most metal pads break after awhile too. Cobalt Flux is the most reliable home pad around. However, it is expensive. I don't know the price of it know, but last time I checked it was like uhh $400 or $500 US....errr something like that. Shoot I dun remember. It was expensive tho. I don't like playing at home anyways, arcade presents more of a challenge and the pads are more reliable, in most cases.

Let's see... you want DDR for home, right? This all depends on your skill level, how much you are willing to spend, and how many songs you want.

If you're still on Light, just get a soft pad. Cheap, and won't slide around nearly as much. Good for Standard players, too. Once you get to Heavy, though...

If you don't mind spending a LOT of money, get a Cobalt Flux with a Japanese PS2, buy DDR Extreme and DDR Party Mix. They're only available on the Japanese versions right now. Extreme will be released in America soon, but I'm not sure what will be on it.

In the U.S., there is DDR Konamix, DDR Max, and DDR Max 2. I'm not sure what Konamix has (other than Butterfly and Drop Out...), but DDR Max is basically a mix of the JP versions of 4th and 5th Mix, with some Max songs (only about six or so...).

Max 2 has even fewer songs, most are originals, and some are from Max 2. It's the crappy version. DDR Max U.S. is better than DDR Max 2 U.S.

I hope this hasn't confused you. :D

Konamix does not have Butterfly. Konamix is supposed to be based off of 4th mix/4th mix plus.

By the way, I AA'd MAX300 heavy on an Extreme machine with 78 greats and a full combo. GO DP CUTOFFS!

Ahhh....I can't even pass Max 300 yet. I'm still at the part after the freeze. I'm so tired by then I can barely concentrate on what I'm doing and can't hit the pattern right. Stupid stamina...needs to be better.

Nice! Is 78 Greats the exact cutoff? If so... lucky! And good job!

I haven't yet full-comboed it, but I'm certain I will soon. I've gotten it down to almost less than 100 Greats (around 102), and so far I've only missed ten steps. That's mostly due to me just stepping off of the pad during the crazy arrow segments. I can hit them, I just go too far.

Oh, and hang in there, BeatofAngel. You'll get it soon. After a while, Max 300 starts to seem easy. It doesn't right now, but if you just keep at it...

Cheapest pad would just be one of those DPR pads (Dance Pad Revolution). They have a little butterfly... woman... thing on the front.

Good news... I AA'd Colors Challenge and Stoic tonight! W00t!

The game is fun, I'm not too good at at (On the boundary of Heavy and Standard) bun incredibly fun, I'm finally getting a PS2, so now I can actually play in my dorm instead of having my pad just sit in a box, sad and dormant while I can't borrow my sibling's PS2 all the way up here.

HUZZAH!

Even better, there is a DDR Extreme machine that is a 5 minute walk from here, hop, skip and a jump. A dollar for 4 songs too.

(Love this Feelin', Heaven is a '57 Metallic Grey, Afronova, R&P) Usually one of those always makes it into a set.)

This game makes me smile. Also, how're the DDRfreak IRC chat's lately Emacee?

This game is what I use to keep myself from being a fat lazy *******. I love this game. But I've yet to try it at an arcade cause they are pretty far from me so I have Ultramix for the box, and max 1+2. No, I'm not good, and there are some things i just can't do. I can get around the end of the max 300 and then get clobbered with arrows on heavy. I can B max unlimited on standard though. I've AA a few songs on standard but never on heavy and I've never trippled A anything.

I want to do though like the freestyle stuff and hit the buttons. I've seen a bunch of videos and can do some of the things, but I do it randomly and not enough. Also, when i try to do it enough, I can fall down. But for the time being, i can hit many arrows on 7-9 footers, but my stamina isnt that good so i tend to screw up. I'm decent as I can hit arrows. But I suck as you guys in videos amaze me time and time again. Ive only been playing for a bit over 6 months.

I dominate #ddrfreak as usual. Love this feelin' and Heaven is a '57 Metallic Gray are most excellent song choices. Right now I like "More Than I Needed to Know" from MAX2.

Oh yeah, MAX 300 as AA'd again with 74 greats and I finally AA'd The Least 100 sec.

I play it at my friends house and at the Maine Mall a lot. Even though I'm still not that good. We do it to goof around. But the best I've ever done is get an A on Captain Jack because that is my favorite song and like the only one I play.

How coincidental that I play at the Maine Mall as well. Where do you live? I'm in Gorham.

have ddr kon. ddr disney ddrmax ddrmax 2, ddr ext. can't say i am the best DDR player but i get mostly A's on standard and c's and b's on heavy, i am more into the free style show your moves then trying to max300 on heavy and stuff like that, sorry i can't say i have read all the posts, but the best way to ensure your pad stays with you. But an el cheapo bad like 40 dollar one, buy a piece of plywood to the same dimensions of the pad, go to Wal_mart and buy some Floor vinyal, and ductape wrap the vinyal around your pad and plywood duct tape it and it will last you years, trust me, i've had the same pad for 4 and1/2 years now still works like new. all i every have to do is buy new tape and retape still way cheaper than buying a new pad every 6 months or so., and this way if ur into free style the vinyal lets you slide across the pad with ease makes for great breakdancing moves.

Yeah, I played this game. Once. Against my fiancee, who completely pwned me at it.

I hate this game. Course, I've only played it once, and I'm sure I'd like it if I, y'know, was more coordinated/knew what the hell I was doing.

Actually, as I suspected would happen, I played it again at my fiancee's house and now I'm hooked. I even shelled out the cash to buy a game and pad this weekend.

Of course, I still suck, but give me time.

My cousin challenged me to do DROP OUT and AFRONOVA in the same 3-song round Saturday. He did this cuz he wanted to see how good I was, cuz I'm always talking about the game and he wanted to put me to the test. I went to Southland Mall where they have a 4th Mix, and I ended up completing the challenge, with Only You as my song in the middle.

I'm not good with doubles anymore, so I just stick to Singles.

I also put Sakura and Dance Dance Revolution under my belt. Sakura I almost AA'd. I had a 459 combo until that one before last step at the end. I had about 50 greats and that one Good.

Sakura is easy to AA once you get the gist of it.

Man, most of my AA's are "dirty" (not full-comboed). And my Perfect Attack really isn't that good.

I'm getting close to AA'ing Max 300, though. Closest so far is 99 Greats, 3 Goods. Rawr.

You guys have NNR accounts?

99 greats and three goods isn't really close to a AA on that song. That's like getting 84 greats on Xenon and saying your close to AAing it. However, your PA on Max 300 is improving and you should get there within a few months (unless you ***** out the song).

As for NNR, my account is "Yong" and I have a separate account for scores that I got using Left called, "Yong on Left."
