LOL fk. Um, I'm still undecided on it because I need people to respond to PMs and such. The Irish dude offered us a place but he'll be home at 10 pm. So if there is a smashfest somewhere else where we can chill we'll leave around 3 pm but if we can only show up to the irish dude's place then we'll be leaving at like 7 pm. This is from my place btw. We'd all leave from there.

I think I might start hosting FT worth tournaments. I just don't have a venue and I don't know if it's okay to use my house as a brawl tournament place. Like I can have them at my house, would everyone be okay with that? I just don't know how to find a real venue LOL like where would i go?

I don't mind having one at your house. House tourneys are boss. Also, I can check out the Ridgemar mall gaming center for a possible venue. Doh, carpool is full and we're set on leaving soon.

Checked out the mall location. Nice place, and the man who runs it certainly has his head on straight. It is just a matter of negotiating the numbers and setting a date for the first Fort Worth Classic in two years...

...At least that is the goal anyway.

Sorry for the double post, but I need a quick show of hands of how many is going to Furry Fiesta next month?

When the guy at the Gamerz Dome and I talked yesterday, one of the things that we talked about was me doing a tournament in February. I'm just deciding whether or not to do it on Feb. 26 or Feb. 19th.

Definitely. I already got you, red shadow and possibly leaf :D. Were taking first in teams ;D

btw i figured out it's actually going to be a 5 and a half hour drive. This basically means I'll have to charge a bit more far gas than i usually do, especially since gas has risen 70 cents since i started carpooling. if 4 people go including myself, it'll be like somewhere in between 15 and 20 dollars... I hate charging people that much o.0

Sounds good batou ;D I thought you might not be able to go due to money johns or something because this one is going to cost a bit more than the average tournament.

Batou, don't forget. I hate bugging you about this, but money is tight around this time, you know what I mean.

In other news, I would love to try out this Project M.

First in teams, let's do it to it. I'll be working on that safe, support Meta. Also about the gas cost, it's understandable; gas prices are being gay right now, lol.

I think that I can rule out the Gamerz Dome for the Future home of the Fort Worth Classic. Let me explain why.

I just got an email from one of the owners of the place, and I find out that they are going to charge me $100 per tournament hour that I run my tournaments. This means for a typical Smash SINGLES tournament, it will cost me $500 for 5 hours. I could cut down the costs and have people bring setups, but the owners are going to be anal about running tournaments on their equipment, and thus I must run the tournament on their only TV.

Another reason why I can rule it out is that if I do run it there, I would have to raise the overall entry fee(that is Venue and pot fee) that I can't recoup the operating costs even if I cap the bracket at 32. Let's take a $25 entry fee like the place charges as a base entry fee if I were to use the venue. If all 32 people register, that will be an income of $800. Now take $15 of every entry to cover the venue, you, the players, will be spending $480 total to cover the venue. If the tournament runs five hours, where will the extra $20 come from? That will come from my pocket, which means that every three or so months that I decide to operate the tournament, I will be operating at a $20 loss, which is not smart business.

And that is just for one game. Now picture multiple games like the Fort Worth Classic is known for, I would be in the hole hundreds of dollars and for what? A one TV tournament venue?

I understand the need to make money, but seriously, when you feel the urge to charge $100 an hour just to use a TV, I'm going to look elsewhere.

And look elsewhere I did.

We represent the Fort Worth Classic in this case, and I will not allow this to happen to anyone.

Why in the hell should we pull out hundreds of dollars for a tournament that won't be that long?

Not only that, it's way too much. A 25 dollar entry fee is basically HOBO and HOBO is not even that much for each person o.O

I remember trying to find a venue for a baby shower. We got a venue at someone's house for like 10 dollars an hour.....now if they told me they would have to charge me 100 bucks an hour, I'd allow my nephew to give the owner the super kick in the sack ;D

A lot of crap for a small tournament. Try elsewhere.

Remember when I wanted to hold one in that La Quinta off Quebec St back in November? Well, I called them back not three hours ago. They are still willing to charge me $225 to use their meeting space all day. Plus, they are still willing to give me a discount on that room if out of town players book at that hotel.

So my two choices are to spend $20 every three months or so and not earn any money, or I can spend $225 for a decent sized meeting space that I can use all day and earn a decent sized amount of money.

I think the choice is obvious.

^ How would you earn money? From my understanding the money players put for registration is used for the jackpot which is split based on top placings (which goes to the players that earn it). The venue fee is to pay off for using the venue, am I correct? How does the TO make money?

You would have to charge a venue fee that would pay for the venue AND to give the TO a cut as well. It's not ab big cut either....let's say you charge 10 bucks for the venue fee, 8 goes to the venue while 2 dollars go to the TO's cut. That's what I did when I would be the TO for Street Fighter Third Strike tournaments in Dallas.

Except the venue was much higher..we're talking like 15 dollars a person....so 12 goes to the venue while 3 goes to the main TO.

How I did it was using the excess Venue fee(after the venue is bought and paid for) and keeping that. Although with La Quinta, if the room is free after enough people book there, I will offer some form of bonus pots.

You have to learn that some people think of this, like myself, as a business. First you have to pay the venue rental, then you have to pay the top finishers(along with any bonus money that is offered), and finally you can consider paying yourself.

Basically, all of the scam tourmaments that is going on fail to order those three things properly because they have never run a business before. They don't prioritize Taxes, workers wages and their pay in a proper order.

I want to know exactly how much business Gamerz Dome makes. Charging $100 an hour is hilarious! xD There was a place in Abilene called Lan World in the mall and we went there and asked if they do tournaments and if not, would they mind if I started tournaments in their store. Now to describe the venue, it was really big for a local smash tournament. Most of it IS filled with desktop computers ready for gaming, but it was still nice and roomy and had a game atmosphere. The point is, the manager says "They really don't do tournaments".

I thought it was funny that they didn't. They charge $15 an hour to play their games and I never see any business. Guess what? They closed down pretty quickly too. Such a shame. *tch tch*

They should be more like Game Domain in Stephenville. $5 for video games all day. They have a huge selection, all 3 main systems, 4 HDTVs, snacks and soda, they have card game tournaments, and they were glad to let me host a melee tournament there (years ago). They didn't even really charge a venue fee. They only asked that the players paid for the all day deal. So when we were done with the tournament, everyone played any game of their choice for the rest of the day. They're still in business last time I checked.

The point I'm trying to make is that I think it's inconceivable.. hilarious.. stupid... that people can't figure out how to run a video game domain.

alright guys. I've got some time these weekends so I thought it would be a good time to start my smashfest at my new house. I can do Friday (Jan 28) or Sunday (Jan 30) next weekend or I can do Friday (Feb 4) or Saturday (Feb 5) the weekend after. I will not have the smashfest Saturday (Jan 29) because of Phase X or Sunday (Feb 6) because of the SuperBowl.

Everyone give me your votes!

Okay FW, I did my tournament research and and there are 2 tournaments next month on the 19th and the 26th. One is dakpo's, the other is a SA tournament. The SA tournament only has a singles event so I told them if they throw a doubles event as well I'll come. So it all depends on that... which leaves 2 weekends free, so I was thinking about holding my tournament on the 12th of next month. Is that a good idea?

btw claim a spot in my carpool for these tournaments soon before it gets full.

How is March looking, guys for tournaments? I know that WHOBO is on the weekend of the 18th, but beyond that I'm running a blank. I'm looking at March 5th for the first Fort Worth Classic in three years.

The games that will be ran, at least on paper, for the tournament is, SSF4, Brawl singles and Doubles, and the return of Unmodded Item Standard Play Brawl. Item Standard Play Brawl will have a 16 man cap and will only be ran if we have time.
