So I actually might do this. I need some input tho since ive been out of the **** for a while


1. Melee or brawl? Personally I've seen tournaments that have tried to do both, and they don't work too well.

2. Local or regional? Dunno how ppl feel about this

3. Other games? I've been hearing about Brawl+, which I don't like, but if it brings in ppl its cool. SF4? TVC?

So basically I just need a little feedback, and maybe if ppl want to help me run/promote this, that would be nice

melee + brawl tourenys are by far the best

if you want a 3rd game to include, I highly suggest Smash 64, as I can't imagine anyone who doesn't like that game that's played it before

me and vidjo will come down and visit if it's melee + brawl (as long as MK is allowed)

we will ALSO be bringing a carpool of people most likely. It'll probably be me, vidjo, dac, and maybe some other guys if I tell them I wanna go (they told me a while ago that they would carpool down to big tourneys that I wanted to go to in the future if I agreed to live w/ them ). I'm sure I can probably get like 5 people to come down

otherwise you probably won't see too much of me in EC since I'm moving to Ohio soon probably

I would like an excuse to come back and visit here though

I could try and help you run it / promote it if you'd like (although I've never done it b4 lol up to you), just tell me what to do


BTW travis as far as a date is concerned, I suggest early September, since everything big is in August attendance will be hurt, but if you make it in September (or later) then you should have really good attendance

overall i think it should be all brawl....i think if your trying to run 2 big tournys its not gonna be as efficient....brawl will bring the better crowd and its the game thats in right now

I say Brawl, Unless you want a two day event, in which case you could do Melee on the second day/first day whichever you prefer.

National, as you're great at tourneys. And MD needs to get the OOS in here to train up like GIMR's tourney.

I will help run stuff.

Let other games be at the discretion of people who bring them, let the players make other games a big deal, but Brawl + Melee will be enough for anyone I would think.

If you do have Melee, make it the sunday event, Brawl is the feature at this time, and would be the main attraction, let everyone else who wants to play melee come on sunday for it.

TBH, I want to play Melee just cause I'm young and was like 12 during the melee dayz xD

So I never got a chance to experience the Melee community

But Brawl should be the main event however 1 or 2 melee set upz won't cause harm or lag the tourney.

Having a tourney with 2 gamez is bad UNLESS itz a 2 day tourney.

I have to say I'm disappointed in the visceral hatred that is expressed towards having a non-Smash game at a Smash tournament. The community will only grow with NEW people, and what better way is there to recruit new people than to bring them to our events?

chinesahh, I believe that the answer to your question depends on what your main intent is with this tournament. As pro-Melee as I am, it makes no sense to have a Melee only tournament. The numbers just simply won't be enough to justify all the work you'd have to do. Melee people are very vocal, but all of our noise only masks the fact that we're a small minority of the current Smash scene.

If you want the largest possible tournament, Brawl and Street Fighter 4 would be the way to go. A regional SF 4 tournament would draw HUGE amounts of people. Brawl itself will do that as well, as there seems to literally be no end to the number of people who play Brawl competitively. But if you want a tournament that celebrates Smash, then go with Brawl and Melee on separate days.

Don't add Smash 64 or TVC. Neither of those games are going to bring people in, they'll just be mostly for people who came for other events and got bored. That's what friendlies are for, don't waste your effort on them.

I say make it only one game. It's more organized that way. My opinion is that you'll have a bigger attendence if Brawl is the main game.

Now here is something many people don't comprehend... Melee is not the "in" game anymore. Is it a better game? Yes, of course. No doubt. Candy knows this, he was pretty good at that game, just never was into the whole tourney scene.

Melee is obviously loved by many. Its always going to be a fun game to play. But it doesn't bring the big crowds anymore. People will continue to play this game, but it will not be the popular game anymore. That doesn't mean it's not the better game, just that it's not the popular game.

Sure, Melee has had some pretty nice tournies, like Revival of Melee... but those are few and far between.

I'm not going to argue about this w/ anyone - if you want proof just look at the number of Brawl tournies vs the number of Melee tournies. That's proof right there.

And the thing is, if you're going to rent a venue to host a tourney, you're going to need the bigger crowd which brings in more venue fees to pay the owner. Can you honestly tell me that a Melee tourney today would bring in more people than a Brawl tourney?... Exactly.
