Kira- I understand what you were saying about my precision issues. This is really just the result of two more fundamental problems, namely my inconsistent tech skill and my terrible reaction times.

French players- Thanks for coming! I'm glad I had the opportunity to play you all.

Slhoka- I can understand how the way you play against ICs works against people who do nothing but CG, but you leave yourself too vulnerable to the rest of the ICs' moveset. Don't let ICs get directly under you!

Porc- Good Samus and Fox! I was impressed with your patience.

Qlex- I'm glad I had time to play you after the tournament. ICs vs. Ganon is a really fun match-up.

Doraki- You have a really interesting playstyle. Sorry if I seemed a bit a moody after you beat me; at the time I felt like I had let Socal down, but in retrospect it was fine since I was representing the defunct Soviet Union rather than the USA.

Lovage, aka environment, safety, and occupational health- There really isn't any reason why every round in our set shouldn't have been like the second one. Stop SDing and putting yourself in gimp-able positons so much!

12- You're getting better at ICs dittos!

One other thing that was a bit frustrating was that I was generally doing better with a character I barely understand than my actual main. Also, at this point in time, I feel like my usual method of improving isn't working very well anymore. In retrospect, I can already identify what I was doing wrong and what I should have been doing differently, but I'm not able to recognize these things on the fly. *shrugs*

Since there aren't a lot of good people in my area, I can't simply play a match-up a lot to understand what I'm doing wrong. Instead, I just play at tournaments and keep track of everything that caused me problems. After the tournament, I'll list every tactic that caused me problems and brainstorm possible counters in notepad or something. After doing this, I'll usually look for videos of Chu/Wobbles to see how they responded to said the tactics that I was struggling with.

I think the brainstorming process helps me familiarize myself with my character and I can usually come up with a few satisfactory responses to said tactics, but I can always get more ideas from better players on youtube.

Recently, though, I've been having a harder time identifying what exactly is giving me a hard time (mostly in the Fox-ICs match-up), but this is probably the result of me not putting in enough effort.

A few bigger concerns at the moment, though, are that my tech skill is always inconsistent regardless of how much I practice, my reaction times are slow, and my pattern recognition skills are bad. The first two of these are why I always move sort of sluggishly, and the last one is a problem that I think I can only fix by playing better smashers a lot.

Connor - Great tourney dude. Thanks for the soup but when I went to Walmart today, I couldn't find it. D=
Eric - I didn't even know you were in Lake Forest at the moment lol
Marq - The Ice Cream Truck story is hilarious. Didn't get to play you much for some reason
Fly Amanita - Wow you got like all of IC's bad match ups in one bracket. Oh well, your Marth is **** too so I guess it doesn't matter. I still haven't got the chance to play you in singles.
Embrace - I'm going to try that bottle cap trick one of these days. Haven't got the chance to play you in singles either X_x
Tai - Nice seeing ya. Glad I actually got the chance to play you this time. Your Falco is really nice =D
Rob & Ryan - I didn't notice you guys arrive or leave and I didn't get to play you either. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me and you weren't there at all? O_O
Kira - Thanks for the tips again Kira. I'm going to try my best on working on my Dair/Nair shines and my falling speed.
Cameron - The first match of our set was the msot intense match I've ever palyed. GGs, even though I lost the set, I'm just glad I didn't get dominated on Corneria like last time lol. One day I'll win that match.
Mango - Your falco is sooo good. With Zhu gone atm, you're my fave Falco in socal. Hopefully you'll grow your hair back out eventually XD
Replicate - Nice comeback against Doraki in that last match. Thanks for the tips after our MM
Johnny - I'm not kidding about the dollar but I'll give you another one next tourney.
P - I can't believe I forgot to ask for tips after our MM. I really hope that this isn't your last tourney. D=
Doraki - I was expecting you to show off with your instant wall jump tech a bunch but I guess not lol
Qlex - Wow, your ganon is amazing. Nice job on beating Lovage. =O
Porc - Nice Samus/Fox and nice job on beating Fly. I'm surprised you didn't get mad at his ledge stalling but I guess it's all in good fun. =D
Slhoka - Sorry if I spelled this wrong lol. Nice meeting you and your sheik/other characters are really nice.
French players(collectively) - You guys were all really good. I thought you guys were going to be not that good but you sure proved me wrong. I hope you enjoy your stay in America. See you at Genesis!
Seng- Falco dittos are always really fun. I didn't know you were a fan of Tennis but idk how much of a fan you are since you took a nap during Wimbledon Finals. Can't blame you if they were really 4 hours long X_x
JDM - Why do you never want to play my Falco? lol
Dopple - We should team more often. We did pretty well. I enjoyed teaming with ya'.
Plan 9 - You're such a funny dude. I wish I knew you needed an extra slot for the PS3, I would have lent you my power chord.
JTB - Nice meeting you. I wish I got the chance to play your Jiggs more.
Hyprid - Nice Marth/Jiggs as usual. I wish I go tot play your Jiggs more too since I need some matchup experience against Jiggs.
L - Nice meeting you. That wasn't the luckiest Phantasm ever lol
Doc player - I forgot your name, my bad but you had a really nice Doc.
Pat - Nice meeting you. Great Fox <- unintentional joke
Everyone else - Nice seeing you. Sorry if I forgot to give you a shout out.

as far as tech skill goes, you should probably get used to being technical under pressure. It's a problem a lot of fox players have (although they usually get over it because it's fox); there's your practice tech skill and your ACTUAL tech skill. Basically, your real tech skill is what you can do in tournament, and that's all that matters. Try putting extra effort into hitting all your tech skill in money matches or in tourney matches.

Also, I think you're maybe too analytical in terms of getting better. If you're looking at specific situations instead of considering the bigger aspects of your game, you can get too caught up in what you're doing. The problem is, your opponent (who may not be thinking similarly, or as much) can change it up while you're laboring to find the perfect move, and catch you off guard. If a fox is fullhop drilling your shield and you're trying to uptilt out or whatever, even if your counter works fox can just find another way to pressure you. Try thinking in broader terms of "I'm being pressured" vs "I'm being drillshined."

I asked Kage how his spacing is so good at TourneyPlay, and he said that he just plays according to his feelings. Conscious analysis and lengthy decision-making isn't always the best way to do things.

That's my advice anyways, but I believe people's minds work very differently when it comes to playing smash bros, so it might be totally off-base.

oh and also dash-dance/WD wh0re for grabs
do one wd downsmash and fox will be terrified to approach you
then camp like hell for a grab or smash
it's gay, but it works lol

i have an announcement

Just fyi, i want everyone to understand that when I play tournament matches, i sometimes give off a feeling of hostility, but that does not mean I dislike you by any means. I play at my best potential when i am in a specific mindset, a variation of a "take no prisoners" attitude and i try to pretend my opponent is the enemy and that i have to do whatever it takes to beat them (ie play gay lol). In a sense I try to be angry but not be frustrated at the same time. So just understand this when you play me.

This goes for everyone, from fly who i will camp all day, to cameron who i basically live with and practice with the most by far, to the uber tier smashers who i have no chance of beating, to noobs who i am chaingrabbing even when i am up 4 stocks to 1, and to joe, who is the coolest mother****er i know and probably the closest thing i have to a rival at the moment (my rivals are constantly changing because i am constantly improving!). if i dont think this way i begin to slack off and do poorly so i try to keep this mentality no matter what the situation is.

thanks 4 reading

I'm gonna prove all you b!tches wrong!
still don't see any results! no results no shoutouts!

Kira- I understand what you were saying about my precision issues. This is really just the result of two more fundamental problems, namely my inconsistent tech skill and my terrible reaction times.
one thing that helped me is if i can remember what options they have and get a general prediction of what they will do next i can react about twice as effectively than if i went off pure vision reaction.

example: fox stands up from the ledge and shields, i'm waiting for either a jump, roll, or for him to waveland onto the side platform (either to go to the top platform or fall off with an aerial most likely). then i think about how i will decide to counter each action. if i am a half second too late i wait for a secondary action (maybe they roll then spot dodge right after, the most common noob response). Recognizing that i reacted late is super hard and is something i've been trying to get better at for awhile now, so be patient when trying to learn it.

Also I recommend playing as much as possible. You would improve a ton if you were able to play a really good player more often

Kira - Thanks for the tips again Kira. I'm going to try my best on working on my Dair/Nair shines and my falling speed.
also learn to combo. very carefully analyze some zhu vids. key words: analyze, carefully
