Yeah who's coming to CCSU smashfest? Me, Trademark, Octave, Papito, and G should be there at least.

Speaking of magic, anyone going to any extended PTQs this season?
I've actually never played Extended, but from what I've seen, Faeries and 4CC pretty much dominate the format so... no thanks. Eternal formats only for me, thanks.

Count me in, Spencer. I'll try to bring a set-up. What time should I get there?

How's 5? I have the whole day off, but that time seems good usually.

Actually, Jund has been the second best placing deck next to faeries so far this season. But eh 4 CC and Fae, I get what you mean. The johnny in me really wants to run esper lark. But it'll never work out :(

If you're looking for a format with real deck diversity, I never thought I'd say this, but it's gotta be Legacy. Yes, the top six decks at the recent event I went to in Southington were all Counter-top based, but as someone once put it, Legacy is like the Wild West compared to something like, say, Vintage. Anything goes in Legacy, and any wacky combo Johnny-wet-dream deck is potentially viable if you do it right.

Vintage, though it's honestly my favorite format, is super boring. Everybody complains, though, that it costs so damn much, which is total bull****. Dudes who throw down hundreds upon hundreds of dollars buying box after box of the newest set to get the chase rares and compete in Standard could actually SAVE MONEY by playing a format like Vintage.

Playing Standard (Type 2) is like buying a car with low down payment and a variable interest rate. You pay the new-car cost incrementally for the foreseeable rest of your life, even though your car is devaluing and depreciating, and to boot the interest you pay is increasing, costing you buttloads more money for something that, in the long run, is worth relatively little.

Playing Vintage (Type 1) is buying a new car and paying about 90% of its upfront cost right out the gate. You gotta save save save and accrue a small fortune (relatively) in order to make that initial payment to get what you need, but over time you're saving money by NOT stretching the payments out over months/years/lifetimes. Is it still, in comparison to something like a microwave oven, paying alot for what feels like nothing? Yeah, of course, but at least you don't have to live to regret making that investment decision for ten years and have nothing to show for it but debt. (Or, in the case of Standard, boxes upon boxes and binders of worthless cards.)
