Y'know what? **** it, The DLC's ending so let's get weird...

Brian.png

Brian (Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator)
Yep. The dating simulator that the Game Grumps made. Brian is one of seven dateable dads in the game, lover of fishing, and owner of a corgi named Maxwell. He also plays the role of the "rival dad," trying to one-up the player in dad-ness. His dad bod could lead well to a fun grappler playstyle with the addition of his aforementioned fishing skills and dog. Sure some may consider him a "meme pick," but the game he comes from is actually notable as a "haha, funny concept" game that is actually pretty good from what I've heard. (Being developed by a famous pair of gaming Youtubers also helps.) And as an added bonus, he serves as a rep for "played-straight" visual novels. (Despite the game itself not containing many things that could be considered "straight" har dee har)

Brag_battle.png

Stage: Brag Battle
When you first meet with Brian, you will be pulled into a "brag battle" minigame where you compete with him in bragging about the achievements of your respective daughters in a Pokemon-styled battle. The stage would be similar to pictochat where fighters stand on the dialogue box while pixelated depictions of what's being said change the layout and hazards of the stage. I didn't want to just go for a "basic" location, so this is what I went with. I think it could be considered different enough from it's inspiration due to the fact all of the drawings will have a clear theme.

As long as I'm allowed to, I'll nominate Yooka and Laylee with Capital Cashino as a stage; I nominated them during Jacket's round, but that was more than two rounds ago, so I think it's okay.

Yooka-Laylee

I could explain who they are, but I have a video that does that for me!

Yooka and Laylee are similar to, but legally distinct from, Banjo-Kazooie - a bunch of ex-Rare employees decided that if Microsoft isn't going to make the sort of games that made Rare famous, then they'll do it themselves. A chameleon and a bat, Yooka and Laylee have a wide variety of powers like creating sonic shockwaves, curling up into a ball and rolling around, and turning invisible.

Ironically, their first Banjo-Kazooie-inspired game got mixed reviews, though their second game (which was more in the vein of Donkey Kong Country) was highly praised. The games have a bunch of staples that you'd come to expect from Rare - self-aware humour, googly eyes on everything, sudden gameplay changes...

In addition to 2D and 3D platformers, Yooka and Laylee have also been in platform fighters like Brawlout...

...and arena fighters like Mighty Fight Federation...

...so they're no strangers to randomly showing up in indie games and being told to beat people up. (maybe not to the extent that Shovel Knight is, but that's a high bar to clear)

Capital Cashino

While I could go with the first level or hub world, I wanted to go with something that was aesthetically different - in this case, a giant gaudy casino. The fighting takes place on top of one of the chandeliers overlooking the casino, and as a stage hazard, minecart tracks will occasionally be lowered onto the screen in various patterns, which are followed shortly after by Kartos driving along and hopping from one track segment to the other, damaging whoever he touches. (the tracks can also be used as platforms - otherwise, it's a flat Final Destination-style stage)

Yooka-Laylee's fine; I decided to waive the pre-hiatus submissions for the sake of avoiding any hassle. As long as you didn't submit a character in the last two rounds, they're fine to submit now.

Speaking of, here's my submission!

Fighter: Kris (Deltarune)

With the anniversary of both UNDERTALE and Deltarune's second chapter being just two days ago, it seems like a good time to resubmit Kris. Most of what I said about them at first still applies, so I'll make this quick; Kris could easily be a much different fighter than Frisk (although Undertale and Deltarune would still be considered part of one "series"), so I'm not opposed to double dipping for this one fighter.

For their stage, though, I have a new idea.

Stage: Ride Around Town

Despite the image, this stage takes fighters around both Dark Worlds seen in Deltarune's current two chapters; The Scarlet Forest, the Card Castle, Cyber City, Queen's Mansion, and maybe even some brief visits to less important locales. All of this provided by Spamton's self-branded roller coaster! ...It's probably safe. Hopefully.

Job #10:

Damn, I think it'd be cool to submit another RPG character. I mean, surely there's nothing that could go wrong from this, right? Not when there's so many quirky RPGs out there. Quirky RPGs inspired by the MOTHER series. It'd work well alongside Kris, right? There's surely nothing wrong with this?

Character Name: Alex Eggleston
Character Origin: YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG

All-Star Strife is YIIKing out! This post-modern protagonist was outcasted from literally his entire friend group for being an asshole toward them and has arrived in the wonderful world of Indie Paradise through plot convenience and some magic bull**** that happened when he entered an elevator in 1999 (probably), I really don't know. But he's here and monologuing about himself in the corner so **** it, we ball.

I think that, as ridiculous a pick as this might seem, the kind of character that you love to hate would be an interesting one to see here. I'd picture his moveset being intensely disrespectful, his taunts obnoxious, his whole playstyle promoting the worst possible players to greatness whilst being a glass cannon in the most literal sense. I'd like to stress that this isn't an attempt to bash on anyone - honestly, with his moveset being focused on his vinyls and other items and equipment from the game, he'd have a genuinely pretty unique vibe that'd be a weird but inspired choice.

Stage Name: Windtown

It might not be the Onett equivalent, but it's still a fairly notable location in YIIK itself, and does have a pretty fun and unique look. The town is really supposed to capture the late-90s aesthetic as a whole - and I think experimenting with the game's feel a little could be a fun way to do that. When fighting normally, Windtown looks fairly normal - that is, before night begins to fall and everyone goes into their homes. It's not long before a powerful and terrifying celestial being appears on the horizon - it doesn't really do anything but it changes the vibes (perhaps the main stage theme could change to a slightly more distorted form?) The whole place looks and feels more staticy with old television effects before it vanishes.

DLC character submission:
Castle Crasher (Bethemoth/Newgrounds)
View attachment 340754
Castle Crasher is one of main characters of Behemoth's 4-Player Indie game called Castle Crashers. Castle Crasher needs to rescue while killing enemies in front of him like Beat'em up or Hack N Slash game. Castle Crasher is one of iconic 2000's Indie characters and even one of Newgrounds' characters that was made by Tom Fulp and/or Dan Paladin.
Castle Crasher would be second (or third if we count Isaac) Newgrounds character for the game and it makes sense to be in.

How he could work?
Castler Crasher has a lot of moveset potential, since he's from beat'em up game and it's easy to make a moveset out of brawler character. Castle Crasher would use his sword for his normal attacks and he could use spells like fire for his neutral special.
One of CC's supers would turn into muscular version of himself and he would increase it's stats for example.

His alts would be based on knights like Red knight, Blue knight, orange knight, etc.

Why Castle Crasher?
I nominate Castle Crasher as DLC fighter because he could represent Behemoth, an indie company found by Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp (Creator of Newgrounds). Also he would be first fighter to represent Beat'em up or hack N slash genre, which is genuine inclusion for the game.
Besides, Castle Crashers is already represented as card, but it doesn't mean they are off the table, so we can Include the Castle Crasher as DLC fighter.

Stage:
King's Arena
View attachment 356075
The stage itself would be walk-off arena and the hazards are horses, who run around the stage. (They can be used as platforms just like Gogoat in smash).
King and spectators make a cameo in background.

Kena (Kena: Bridge of Spirits)
From the criticaly acclaimed game. A spirt guide who helps the dead on their journey to the next life. Kena would use her staff in combat, using it for both attacks and defence. She'd also make use of the Rot, small creatures who would asseit her in battle, sort of like Olimar's Pikmin.

kena-bridge-of-spirits-all-ruins-collectibles-guide-ps5-ps4-1.large.jpg

Ruins
A very visualy pretty stage. Full of lush greenery and rocks. There would be some basic rock platforms and a tree.

It's voting time!
Please vote for your top three fighter/stage combos from this submission period. You aren't allowed to put your own submission in first place, but second and third are fine.
  • Brian + Brag Battle (Dream Daddy) (Baysha)
  • Yooka & Laylee + Capital Cashino (Yooka-Laylee) (Megadoomer)
  • Kris + Ride Around Town (Deltarune) (FazDude)
  • Alex + Windtown (YIIK) (KneeOfJustice99)
  • Castle Crasher + King's Arena (Castle Crashers) (Tankman from Newgrounds)
  • Kena + Ruins (Kena: Bridge of Spirits) (Darkonedagger)
I'm actually gonna end voting on Tuesday afternoon as opposed to tomorrow - I have a fairly busy day ahead of me tomorrow, so I might as well save the stress of trying to update the thread and just tally the votes tomorrow.

My votes:
  1. Yooka & Laylee
  2. Kris
  3. Castle Crasher

(edit: oh and steve fights the ender dragon for his arcade ladder)

1. Kris. Honestly, Deltarune is notable enough - and different enough - to solidly count for inclusion here. It doesn't hurt that there's already hints to it in ASS already, such as through Rude Buster's inclusion, and I think a party-based moveset for them would make Kris a very fun inclusion.
2. Yooka & Laylee. A pretty fun character! I honestly think they'd be such a nice inclusion, even if they feel more like "a base roster pick" - hence why they're a little lower. They would still be very fun to see included though.
3. Castle Crasher. I haven't played it, but I know it's fun - a couple of friends of mine are obsessed - and honestly, I think they'd be a fun group to represent overall!

Kris moveset:

Neutral Special: Big Shot.
Now's your chance to-- now's your chance to-- now's your chance to-- Much like in the Spamton fight, Kris's soul turns yellow and they fire a ball of energy forward. This can be charged to make a larger ball of energy that passes through opponents.

Forward Special: Potassium. Kris hops into Queen's hover-limo, driving forward. The spot that Kris will stop is marked by a banana - however, Kris cannot Get The Banana, as once the car reaches that point, it crashes into the banana, causing it to explode as Kris is sent flying out the front window with the same blank expression on their face.

Back Special: You Just Got Lancered! Lancer drives by on his tricycle, grabbing Kris and dragging them away while laughing at them.

Up Special: Machine to Thrash Your Own Butt. A giant robot duck appears beneath Kris; rather than flapping its wings to fly, its legs launch it upwards with rockets, only for it to explode in midair.

Down Special: Dance Party! Kris does the Russian kicking dance, and if the opponent attacks them with a melee attack while they're mid-dance, the opponent finds themselves with the irresistible urge to dance as well. Kris finishes their dance before the opponent does, leaving the opponent open to attack for a few moments.

Guard Special: DEFEND. Kris holds up a shield that only defends them from the front. If attacks hit the shield, it glows, and the next time that Kris uses their forward or up special, the explosions will be bigger.

(I didn't want to include a whole "Tension Points" mechanic and risk overcomplicating this; I intend to save Ralsei and Susie for the supers, though if they wind up as part of the basic moveset, that's fine too)

Job #289:
Done and done! Sorry about the delay with it earlier, though. I hope it's interesting!

My primary concept for Kris is that they'll have a TP Meter, similar to that seen in Deltarune. It'd be used for the majority of Kris's special moves, but as Kris's TP increases, their damage output does too! TP can be built up by landing attacks on opponents and successfully parrying and dodging attacks, but decreases over time if not used and decreases significantly more if Kris gets hit.

Kris also has a unique mechanic with their smash attacks that references how attacking typically works in Deltarune itself. Rather than charging attacks increasing the power in a more typical way, you're rewarded if you manage to time the attack perfectly with a significantly faster and more powerful swing that's somewhat equivalent to a Critical Hit. However, if you miss, the attack power decreases. Perfectly timing attacks also builds up a lot of TP!

A couple of interesting notes: Kris's grab animation has them actually grab the SOUL of their opponent, which has the opponent darken as their SOUL appears. Also, whilst Ralsei starts with his hat on, using a taunt has him remove his hat with his scarf, which gives him an appearance more like that seen in Chapter 2. This can be performed again to have him put his hat back on.

Special MoveSpecial Move NamePhotoDescription
Neutral Special
Yellow SOUL
A really fast projectile during normal use, Kris's body will darken and their SOUL will be revealed, turning yellow in colour before turning sideways. This animation is pretty fast, and the SOUL will begin to fire pellets of energy forward with a fast rate of fire but low damage and no knockback, not even flinching. However, charging Neutral Special has the SOUL charge up - holding it can maintain the SOUL's charge levels and have it fire a larger projectile which has slightly higher damage but only minimal knockback. This move doesn't use any TP.
Forward Special
Rude Buster/Red Buster
Pointing forward in a recreation of their ability to ACT, Susie appears behind Kris and swings her axe forward, firing a Rude Buster attack which can be aimed slightly upward or downward by holding the control stick accordingly.

Rude Buster costs 15TP to use, but if Kris's TP is over 65, the attack is changed to Red Buster - a slightly larger and more powerful form of the projectile that uses 35TP.

The ax itself actually does high damage too, and can knock opponents into the resulting strike! Overall, it's a monsterously powerful attack that does offset the Yellow SOUL's charged nature.
Back Special
Warning!/Ax Swing
Another Susie-based move, Kris points forward and Suzie appears behind them, lunging forth and swinging her axe forward and then upward. If tapped again, Suzie will swing her ax downward more akin to her traditional attack. Whilst it's not a projectile, it is a powerful tool to be used for spacing, having more reach than Kris's sword, and actually has no TP usage! However, its high reach and damage output is nerfed somewhat by having a pretty specific sweet spot and a lot of lag to deal with, so use with care!
Up Special
Falling

It's a bit of a stretch, but my concept for this is that Kris essentially leaps upward by quite a high margin. There's not a lot of scenes in Deltarune where the team go upward, and I feel like the teacups are kind of specifically related to Queen, so here we are. However, if you hold down the special button when at the peak of Kris's jump, a platform appears under them that appears to be made of papers. Using this takes up a large amount of TP, 60 specifically, but allows Kris to jump (and use Up Special!) again! However, the platform can only be used once at a time - Kris has to either touch the ground or die to be able to use that again.
Down Special
Pacify
Kris's Down Special has them ACT and call out Ralsei, who uses the move Pacify. The move uses a flat 16 TP each time when used, and has a field of magical energy surround Ralsei specifically. Opponents in this field are put to sleep - allowing them to be stunned! Notably, due to Ralsei stepping in front of Kris to ACT, the move's effect is more pronounced in front of the pair than behind, a little like Lucas's Down Special in Smash, but it does still have full coverage.
Guard Special
Heal Prayer/Dual Heal
When Guard Special is used, Kris has Ralsei ACT in order to heal them! The special move uses 35 TP, and heals a flat amount of no less than 15% damage. However, if Kris's TP is over 65, the move becomes Dual Heal - using 50 TP, and healing 30% damage. (It works differently to in the game but cut me some slack alright?)

Real quick, I'm just going to say that I'm gonna extend the moveset job deadline to tomorrow afternoon - Both to give KneeOfJustice some more room to finish their moveset and because I will be busier today than I anticipated when I first opened the jobs.

I also want to take a stab at a Kris moveset myself, so hopefully I'll have the time for that.

Job #291:

Kris's various alts actually utilise model swaps where applicable, specifically a total of four model swaps which give them their Light World appearance. Each of Kris's alts are based either on a prominent character, enemy, or mechanic from Deltarune, with the exceptions of the Battle alt that is intended to reference UNDERTALE's battle UI, and the Vessel alt which is intended to represent a scene right at the start of Chapter One of Deltarune.

Job #292: honestly the suggestions already tossed out are cool already but I decided to take a crack at it because why the hell not?

Note: Rude Buster is already included in UNDERTALE's musical selection, and I'm going to suggest (if it's allowed) that it'd also be selectable on Ride Around Town without taking up a slot in the form of a "new song." Honestly, a small part of me considered making all of the UNDERTALE songs available here but I'll show a bit of restraint.

1. Field of Hopes and Dreams - I wanted at least one song here that represents the primary leitmotif of Deltarune, and this pretty iconic piece from the first chapter fit this bill well. It's also pretty fitting for exploration of the Dark Worlds, in truth, and wouldn't be out of place in a battle!
2. Lancer / Vs. Lancer - Whilst I wouldn't have originally thought of this as an "obvious inclusion" I actually think it's a fun one. Lancer's a pretty prominent side character, and his theme's a more... light-hearted one to include. Plus, I love the idea of it starting kinda wacky and then really kicking into gear - gives it a... Lancery feel. SPLAT NOISE.
3. THE WORLD REVOLVING - Well, seems like you can do anything whilst this plays! Honestly, it felt like an obvious inclusion here despite Jevil not really being the "main antagonist" of Chapter One, but what can I say.
4. A CYBER'S WORLD - In keeping with the theme of "progression and exploration" that I feel the stage itself has, A CYBER'S WORLD would feel like a cool track to play whilst exploring all of what the Dark Worlds have to offer atop a battlefield. It's also a nice change of pace from battle themes, which tend to become pretty commonplace in fighting games, and honestly there's a little bias from me here too.
5. Attack of the Killer Queen - I think that Queen should get a little love. I did originally only consider the next song as "Chapter 2's battle music" but honestly this felt right to include. However, Knock You Down !! came very close as a bias pick.
6. BIG SHOT - Hey every !!! It's [BATTLETHEME.OGG] from [Not Main Antag :(] ! (okay that's enough of that) Honestly this would make too much sense to include. It's a solid collation of almost all of Spamton's music, a climatic piece in itself, and an interesting inclusion.

This is a good point. Just as a little bonus, I’m going to make Rude Buster a song by default, and everyone will still be able to submit six of their own. I’m gonna draw the line at Undertale songs, though; None of those will be present.

I’mma use my extra slot to add The World Revolving.

Submissions close tomorrow afternoon!

Job #293:
Super Move #1: IceShock!
Kris steps aside, but instead of revealing Susie or Ralsei with them, they reveal Noelle! Noelle then fires a large projectile stylised to look like a snowflake in front of her, which freezes opponents that it hits and knocks them away. (I nearly put SnowGrave here but no. I'm not that mean.)

Super Move #2: Trio Attack!
Callint out Susie and Ralsei, Kris leaps forward and slashes with their sword. If they hit, a semi-cinematic begins wherein the timed battle UI from Deltarune is recreated - timing each attack perfectly has the most damage and knockback. When used, it starts with a powerful slash from Kris, then another from Susie, and finally a hit with low damage but high knockback from Ralsei, who leaps into the opponent!

Super Move #3: Thrash Machine Mecha!
Kris summons out Susie and Ralsei to fight alongside them, as the trio suddenly megamorphs together to form... well, you already know. The machine's general effect is fairly ordinary, being able to stamp on the ground and slam its fists forward in the form of an attack. It's also in DUCKMODE permenantly, meaning the move even heals the party slightly when used! After a specific amount of time, the machine violently explodes and the attack itself ends.

Job #294:
Character Name: Mettaton EX
Character Origin: UNDERTALE (2015)
Character Theming: Pixel Art/RPGs/Bullet Hell

OHH YESSS!~ The hottest monster Hotland has to offer is here, in all of his mechanical glory! When you summon him, his ratings will appear next to him in the form of a hologram. Mettaton will then begin to dance as the screen zooms in, a little like with the Squid Sisters over in Smash. However, Mettaton's dancing - focusing on him powerfully kicking his legs - is able to damage opponents, and as he kicks opponents away, his ratings drastically increase. However... well, as his ratings increase, so does the zoom-in effect! After a certain amount of time, he'll bow and disappear as the camera returns to normal.

Character Name: The Batter
Character Origin: OFF (2008)
Character Theming: RPGs

Overall, Batter's actual use as a Companion Card is simple enough - they throw up balls and bat them forward. Where things get interesting is in that the Batter is able to bounce these balls from the ground, platforms, and even other players, in order to reach their target with singleminded determination. Also, a funny thing is that if you look at them at just the right angle, you might be able to see the strings of the Player moving them around... (I considered a "baseball mechanic" a little like Yunpei's in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax but decided against it for simplicity's sake.)

Companion Card #1: Mister Glitch(There is no game) - Pixel Art
The main antagonist of There is no game, he'll latch onto players and make them glitch out a la Metroid

Companion Card #2: Glumstone the Giant(Cuphead) - Bullet Hell
Glumstone will rise from the background and will act similarly to Phase 2 of his boss fight, using puppets to throw a ball around

Kris Animations
  • Entrance
    • Kris drops onto the stage while curled up (similar to how they enter the Dark World in Chapter 2).
  • Taunts
    • Kris turns around to face a random party member; Susie, Ralsei, Lancer, Noelle, Berdly, or (very rarely) The Original Starwalker.
    • Kris points forwards as a heart comes out of their finger, resembling their ACT animation.
    • Kris does the dance from their Sweet Cap'n Cakes battle in Chapter 2.
  • Victory Animations
    • Kris, Susie, and Ralsei strike poses similar to The Legend art from Chapter 1 (albeit with Kris and Susie switching spots).
    • Kris leaps down from above and strikes their blade into the ground before getting up and pointing at the camera.
    • Kris just stands idly in front of a Dark Fountain as a red glint can be seen in their eye...

Kris's signature item: Rouxls Kaard

He shows up even if you don't want him to.

Somehow, you can pick him up like an item (in Deltarune chapter 2, he becomes one of your key items), and upon being used, he summons his Strongest Puzzle (a box right next to a pressure plate), which immediately solves itself and drops healing items and confetti in celebration. The puzzle-solving celebration drops more healing items if Kris uses Rouxls than if other people use him. Annoyed, Rouxls vanishes once the puzzle is "solved".
