There should be a coin match exhibition at FC between the top players. I know M2K would want to do it.

Coin matches are pretty cool. It has a balancing mechanic where if you're losing, and you die, it doesn't matter all that much, but if you're winning big, and you die, you get ****ed. Would be interesting if the top players did seriouslies and we saw how skewed the results were.

Actually a whole Coin tournament would be pretty cool. I wonder who would win. Camping would be gay but that's whatever, could have a smaller stagelist

let's assess coin mode as a competitive platform for our game gusy, who wud b best karikter

By far, the most common question I get about the competitive smash scene from people who casually enjoy the games: "Do they ever play Grab The Coins? It's silly, but...."

Grab the coins free side tournies go go go

In my experience this mode is purely decided by who dies last and nothing else, lol. It would probably even be beneficial to kill yourself near the end just to get to 0 percent and get your last death before the opponent does.

This. It may or may not be beneficial since you might not be able to secure that kill on your opponent, but more often than not it would probably work in your favor.

Also, camping might not be encouraged since you could rack up coins off of getting hit. A defensive, "I'm not letting you in" style would probably be more encouraged until you secure a kill.

It'd be interesting seeing a side tournament in this though. I'd like to see a stamina mode side tournament. Stamina mode could be the new tournament meta; hell we could even make it like Street Fighter: Stamina, Slowmo x1/2, no double jump, FD only.

I like bonus mode more. Around when the game was released, I actually really enjoyed playing bonus matches with friends, lol. We tried to memorize obvious bonuses like throwing people in all directions, using each move at least once, etc.

Coin Mode is kinda silly, but I do love watching coins bounce everywhere.

The more I play this game on a competitive level, the more I forget how many interesting side modes the game actually has. I played a few lightning melee friendlies at Smasher's Reunion - it was hilarious.

2v2 in coin mode for 3-5 minute rounds is super legit. Lots of strategy involved, you gain this focus on protecting your teammate if they are coin-tanking, how to protect an objective when time is getting short, etc. Fun on Hyrule.

Teams coin mode does sound really awesome

I don't like Stamina Mode because it's like a normal match. You can still just get gimped and then the other person wins. No need to mess with the hp ****

You call that balance?

But yeah I played a coin match against a friend in bracket on Saturday. I almost lost game 2 because I died once (Phantasm off the stage), whereas I killed him like 5 times in those 2 minutes.

Edit: falco is so broken in coin mode. His d-air -> shine gives him an absurd amount of coins. If he's facing a FFer, he can collect them while still combining....

Whoever dies loses half their coins or something, right? If so, that would probably not be the best option because you've lost half your coins or something just so you can be at 0%.

It's a good option assuming that you are likely to do die eventually anyway. You don't only lose half your coins, you also give them (or a huge bunch of them at least) to your opponent, thus it is best not to be the last player to die.

Of course, if you can really dominate your opponent it doesn't matter, but usually coin matches go up and down constantly and it is always the person who died last who is (way) behind.
