Posted this on the social thread:

I just found out Pac-Man had been "shown" in screenshots before...

Check his trailer at 0:47:

Now check these images from a press kit released shortly after the Smash Direct in April:

Sakurai really is sneaky...
Thoughts?

Pretty much. Theres a Glee Club 2 which is basically inverted colors w/ a Hawaii theme. They eat dumplings during a minigame in RH Fever, they cameo in a Wario game, and... thats it.

They could have more moveset potential if Sakurai chooses to implement other minigame elements from the franchise into their moveset.
It would make much more sense for them to incorporate other minigames' moves...but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of having them?

I wouldn't think so. Did summoning other Namco games defeat the purpose of having Pac-man?

I'm sure Sakurai will find a way to make it work.

No, because Pac-Man was the first to do so.

Plus, I figured the point of having Chorus Kids would be to have them, I dunno, sing, as opposed to summoning.

I kind of think that the Chorus Kids are overrated. They'll probably be fortunate enough to get a trophy cameo, if anything.
What do they do? I haven't even played Rhythem Heaven so I personally have no interest in a singing character. I mean I'm positively sure that they could create a moveset around them, but a vocal based character doesn't really appeal to me.
So many people have them as their avatar these days....
Yeah I was wondering what happened all the sudden. Not too long ago, people were bashing the idea of them being in Smash and now look at everyone. I mean, I'm not a supporter of the Chorus Men or anyone from the series, but I couldn't care less if one gets in or not. I hate the Sal Leak's guts.

I'm fully supportive of a Rhythm Heaven character, but not the Chorus Men. I much prefer both Karate Joe and Marshal.

I'm guessing the Chorus Kids would take elements of other Rhythm Heaven's minigames into their moveset, and I don't see how that's bad, seeing as they'll probably be the one and only rep for Rhythm Heaven at least for now (unless it suddenly becomes huge and popular), so they might as well represent the whole franchise the best they can.

I see them not only singing, but somehow utilizing rhythm in their move set. I just watched a few more Rhythm Heaven gameplay clips on YouTube and the whole music and rhythm thing is really cool, especially the Remixes haha!

I decided to tweak my roster input with the contents that we've gotten from E3 2014.

It's sad to say that I had to give up a few characters while making this. Dixie or K. Rool, and I picked K. Rool. Additionally, I scrapped Chrom, seeing as Ike has returned.

Ike's return is not going to prevent Chrom's (or another Fire Emblem character's) inclusion. The series can certainly warrant three characters, especially with Awakening's success.

Honestly, the only reason I'm still resistant to the Gemastu leak is because I don't want to find out I already know the rest of the roster. Even though I frequent places like the boards, I still enjoy being surprised. That's why I'm "sure" there are more newcomers than just the Gemastu leak (though I think that is a reasonable assumption). Eh, we'll know before too long, anyway.

I'd definitely re-add Chrom. Ike being in has nothing to do with his already great chances.

And I'd make the Mii Fighters one slot. That's how they are in the game, according to Treehouse Live.

Actually, it did say character DLC.

- Nintendo is planning post-launch character DLC, source doesn't like this as he thinks it's greedy

Chrom doesn't really add anything to the roster besides filling some kind of imaginary Awakening rep quota. In Sakurai's words:
On the other hand, even if you have a character suited for a fighting game, if you can't make him stick out from the pack and extract something unique from him, then what can you do?
Marth and Ike are all we need for FE representation. But if they decide to add another, it should be someone that brings something new to the table.

Just the thought of seeing Xenoblaze flip out when Chrom does get confirmed in August makes me laugh.

How is my roster? I REALLY do not like the traditional "Gematsu Leak", 47-slot plus random button roster, so I decided to add a few little things to it.

I wonder what would happen if all the Sal/Gematsu newcomers were only shown post release.
One of his most hated characters being confirmed alongside his most wanted character. What a dilemma.

What are you doing on these forums? Go get hired at Nintendo and make this the roster! NOW.

New prediction roster!

51 Characters with six unrevealed newcomers in Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Kids, King K. Rool, Takamaru, and Ridley. If you would like me to justify any of my character choices, please feel free to ask!

You can extract things from Awakening to make a good unique moveset out of Chrom such as the skills in Awakening, there is something that can make Chrom standout.
Chrom doesn't have access to a ton of skills in Awakening...

Snake over takamaru and its perfect.
Since this is not a wishlist roster, but rather a prediction, I can't do that.

Snake's chances are lower than ever with Kojima's comment, E3 passing by without word of his fate, and Sakurai's using the "Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man" thing as a selling point; making it seem like those three are the only third parties.

On the other hand, we have Takamaru, who has plenty of evidence in his favor with more cameos than any other potential retro recently (Pikmin 2, Captain Rainbow, a song and a sticker in Brawl, Warioware DIY, Samurai Warriors 3, and Nintendoland); a very recent overseas release (for the first time) in Europe (but suspiciously not North America); Sakurai's somewhat out-of-place 1983 comment; and Sakurai's blessing for Retros:

Adam Riley: You have mentioned how you like to breathe new life into forgotten franchises. Now that Kid Icarus has been completed, what other old classic would you like to look at? Ice Climbers, Star Tropics,MoleMania…or something non-Nintendo?

Sakurai-san: I am planning on doing my best to bring old characters back in Smash Bros. From that perspective, I am probably in the most fortunate position in the world.
I'm sorry, but I think it's clear which one of these characters has more of a chance of getting into the game at this point.

Didn't FE: Awakening introduce the team up strategy to the series? I wouldn't be surprised if Chrom's special moves summoned a few of his teammates to assist him. I'm not sure how it would look though...maybe use that time portal to summon his allies? Maybe his Up B would summon Tiki or Nowi and they would lift him up or he'd ride on their back. Maybe his Down B summons Ferderick to counter. His normal B move could simply be his own special attack that heals him a bit if his attack connects. His Final Smash would probably involve a team attack with Robin/Tactician. Just some ideas on how Chrom could be very different from Marth and Ike.

I don't see it happening, but I would love Chrom to summon companions. It seems more like a thing Robin would do, though.

Also, just for kicks, since everyone's posting rosters: here's a color icon (like the official website) version of the Gematsu roster I made in Photoshop.

Well, they both have a chance, though I don't think either are that likely.

I think people underestimate Takamaru now because of the leak. He has a lot of credentials on his side, with the most important one being Sakurai's confirmation that he was planning on adding another retro character at the time the roster was decided. And no, Mac, Pac-Man, and Megaman are not what he means. The interviewer specifically asked about retro characters.

Been a while since I posted a roster.
51 Slots & Random, 53 Characters including the Mii Gunner, Mii Brawler, and Mii Sword Fighter.
Newcomers (Does not include Confirmed)
+King K. Rool
+Bandana Waddle Dee
+Shulk
+Chrom
+Takamaru
+Chorus Kids/Chorus Men
Cuts
-Snake
-Ivysaur
-Squirtle
-Lucas (Primarily because I think DLC will include Lucas)
I do have a 47 character version, in addition. Though it's pretty much Neerb's roster, with Mewtwo instead of Jigglypuff.

I'm not underestimating him but I think people are blowing his chances out of proportion, I see him on almost every prediction roster I come across and I don't see any solid evidence for his inclusion. The only thing I could really see that would be in his favor more than any other retros is that he had stuff from his game in Brawl, but there have been other series's that have had things in Smash Bros. and never got a character because of it. If Sakurai wants to add a retro character it's possible it won't be him, and even if his game was released on the virtual console it's a little weird it wasn't released in the United States. I'm not saying he's not going to be in the game but he's far from guaranteed.

Since Ridley is the newcomer in my roster I'm least confident on, and since I could see Bandana Dee happening, I have to say that this is a good roster.

9.5/10

Also, props to you for using my Chorus Kids icon <3

Of course. I still give him about a 60% chance (so a 40% chance he doesn't make it). But you have to keep in mind that his largest competitors are (essentially) disconfirmed in the form of Lip and Balloon Fighter. He's the retro that makes the most sense at this point.

And that's ignoring the fact that his Samurai Warriors 3 appearance literally remade his game and his Nintendoland appearance placed him among the likes of Pikmin, Yoshi, F-Zero, Star Fox, and a ton of other series that all have playable representation in the Smash Bros. series except for Balloon Fight.

Mach Rider is so underrated.

I find him more likely than Takamaru at this point.

- Sakurai referred to him as his favorite character idea back in Melee's development.
- His motorcycle can make him really unique (the possibility of a mount character is awesome).
- I personally think that Greninja damaged Takamaru's chances quite a bit. There's nothing standing in Mach's way besides the leak.

For anyone that still doesn't believe Gematsu, I recommend adding a Rhythm Heaven character to your rosters.
Sneaky Spirit is just too obscure of an enemy to add without another form of representation (likely playable).

I would not put him among the likes of Pikmin or Star Fox... F-Zero maybe, though. That's just my nit picking :p

Other than that... okay, you make a good point. 60% sounds spot on.

- You left out the part where Sakurai mentioned that he couldn't make a mounted character work in Melee days. I'm pretty sure that would still be difficult now.
- You also left out the part where Takamaru is about ten times more popular than Mach Rider, who people are just flocking to because Takamaru's seen as too obvious on these forums.
- The inclusion of a Ninja frog doesn't hurt Takamaru any more than the inclusion of...well, the actual human Ninja in Melee. Ninja =/= Samurai. Like, at all. I mean, Takamaru never even uses ninja stars in his game. That was just a Nintendoland thing. He uses Kunai (throwing knives), windmill blades, and fireballs. No stars.

For the record, I'm not trying to be offensive at all. You're actually one of my favorite people here. I just get a little passionate when I argue.
