Mega Evolution alone doesn't, but along with the upcoming remakes and Grass/Fire/Water pattern, it looks quite ominous.

EDIT: Okay I should stop being so negative, so I'll drop this
If patterns alone determine newcomers, then we are getting Diskun as another hardware rep. This "pattern" surrounding Sceptile has absolutely no merit at all.

Sceptile getting a Mega Evolution doesn't really do anything more that the remakes being revealed haven't already done. It was already likely he'd be promoted along with the other starters as he's connected to those games, Mega Evolution just solidifies that position.

Well, it would seem the Hoenn starters all have Mega Evolutions now. Pretty unsurprising, really but so much hype.

I'm just going to say that I don't think this does much for Sceptile's (already low) chances. The games are still very late in Smash's development, there's no indication that these games will have any impact on Smash whatsoever, and Sceptile himself is still not very prominent, being secondary to Blaziken and only being considered due to his typing. There's also the matter of competition from Mewtwo and perhaps Jigglypuff for a slot, and both of them have far stronger cases than Sceptile. Sceptile is simply a very unlikely candidate for Smash, I think.

I honestly think we have our only pokemon newcomer already. As ive said in the past i think most of the series will only get one newcomer at most, just based on how much effort is put into each trailer and that it would be ludicrous to believe wed get something like 15 of those when they could even pair some up if they were from the same series. Them squeezing charizard into greninja's seemed like a good indication of that.

You actually make a good point.
I'm not saying that Sceptile is deconfirmed but if they were really going or that rock-paper-scissors trio, they would've added Sceptile in the trailer.

Not really. If irc, OR/AS weren't revealed then, and neither was Sceptile's mega evolution. I think Sceptile only chance is if Sakurai went to GF for pokemon reps and they more or less told him who to add based on who would promote the brand.

On the other hand, you could argue that they could have revealed someone else in the Direct and waited to show off the Pokemon trailer (with Sceptile thrown in as well) until after OR/AS was announced.

Mega Swampert is Mega Ugly
Only a couple more days until E3! And I can't wait to try out the demo!
Hopefully someone plays as the Villager and some of the other newcomers as well as veterans that received numerous buffs, but I bet everyone will try to choose frickin' Marth and Fox. . .

Interesting point. However, I'm a bit skeptical of the notion they'd put two newcomers in the same trailer (Charizard doesn't count). Like I said, I don't think Sceptile is likely, but he isn't impossible either.

I'm planning on trying out Rosalina at the Best Buy demo. She seems like the most interesting newcomer we have so far.

Not Robin again.
Any other topics?
What's wrong with Robin, aside from your personal preferences?

The problem I see with a lot of character choices on this site, is that a lot of character supporters say, ' I think _____ is going to be in because I say these things matter!"

I'm not naming fanbases, because I'm not going to start a flame war (especially because I'm a mod!!!), but it's just something that I've been thinking about. I think this E3 is going to crush lots of dreams, and there's going to be massive butthurt. I think people are going to be surprised with what happens, and most of it will come from characters who get revealed.

I think it's highly likely that we get Pac-Man and Mii's, based on the exposure and attention that will get. I think it's also entirely possible that Snake gets revealed based on recent information. Mewtwo is a good candidate as well. Shulk, Palutena, and Chrom are the only other newcomers I could see getting revealed.

I'm thinking I might make an essay about my first speculation (possibly my last) period, and what I thought about the character suggestions I've seen and what actually happened. I might get in trouble for it, but I don't plan on being nasty toward any fanbase, because I'm going to look at things logically. But I probably won't start on it until I know the final roster.

Hopefully people read and maybe take a few things into consideration next time. I don't know if I'll be back for the next game. I'll probably be here for awhile, but I do hope people are interested.

I agree, and its probably the most likely outcome, and there will for sure be people mad. Especially if the gematsu leak gains some validity in the process.

Im even kinda shakey on mewtwo's chances at this point, sure hes wanted, but we can want all day long and that doesnt mean its gonna happen regardless.

I actually did a post on my thread saying that this week end is a great possibility to just think about what we know so far since our hope isn't granted and it just might not happen.

Because I knew it will crush more dreams than make dreams (if I have to count every support thread that seems worthy, I think we could end up with like 75 characters if you onclude veterans). It's obviously impossible and that's why there will be more sad thread than happy one. I say it but this also include myself which is way I rewatch all the videos and rechecked all the potds just to remind me that even if my most wanted isn't there, this game is still going to be awesome. btw, try to do this those old potds really takes me back.

However, I suggest that more support thread relay this message because it will either destroy most of the character's chance or make them. I know it would be very hard (aka ridley thread where you have a sensitive 50/50 situation) but really, this week end should be taken easy for supporters.

I would need to be escorted to the hospital due to a massive heart attack.
:bluejump:
HAHAHA :) It won't happen for me because usually, I'm able to contain strong emotions but consider this:

When the digital event starts, I would have to watch it on an iPhone in a car doing 7 hours of drive and when I'll watch it, I'll be SUPER tired because I would have slept several hours before and wake up suddenly. I think E3 is enough to keep me awake but that tells you how it would feel weird to be excited.

Well said.

We do need to scale back on the hyperbole though. Saying a character is "SO ICONIC AND IMPORTANT" without much to lean on to could lead to false expectations, which is already happening anyway. We're too quick on blaming Sakurai when we're the only ones to blame for having unrealistic expectations to begin with.

I agree with your choices. Pac Man and Miis are the characters for E3, probably Shulk as well. Mewtwo could go either way, although Pokemon's audience is NOT E3's audience, so he can be revealed in an (august) direct, a normal POTD or kept as a secret.

No more so than WFT imo.
Well, now that we have more knowledge about the game, and considering how most of the previous reveals have been somewhat surprising additions, most people are hoping for some actual fan favorites this time around. A reveal like that at this point would be more disappointing than one earlier on.

That's a fair point, but I think the fact that there will likely be more information given about the game at this E3 than the previous, so the Mii reveal will probably be offset by a greater amount of other content than the WFT was. Assuming ofc there are a couple other characters revealed at least. But I mean, with the Developer Direct I can't imagine there will be a shortage of info to balance reveals people are less-than taken with.

Not only that. Sceptile would be boring.
"Little Mac would be sooooo boring! All he does is punch!"
"Ewwww Rosalina. She'd just be a Peach clone!"

On a different note, I'm loving these pessimistic outlooks, because if something super hype gets revealed, it'll be even more hype.

Miis are iconic and well known. Wii Sports is one of the biggest IPs of all time and they've been in various Mario spin offs (most notably, Mario Kart, which is at this point is a bigger brand than main Mario heh.) and other titles like Find Mii and recently, Tomodachi Life, which is on high demand and is doing very well. (According to the Gamestop employee when I went to buy it anyway. It was sold out, damn my luck.)

They're popular, and they're technically fan favorites, certainly more than most (all) characters that are left. They're just not liked by the dedicated Smash fanbase for some reason.

WFT's reveal actually made you less hyped for the game? Well, to each his own.

Most people seemed either neutral or positive about it once the dust settled.
I'd be so bold as to say a similar thing will happen with the Miis.

I think a part of it is WFT never actually had time to accrue a hatebase, as no one was expecting her in the least, so the primary reaction was initially confusion over dislike, whereas the Miis have a very vocal group of detractors.

Plus, I'm pretty sure of all the newcomers so far... WFT is still the most divisive, even if this place isn't the best representation of that.

I bolded the key words.
When she was first revealed, I think my reaction was:  . . . . :glare:
After the dust settled and especially after the Direct, my new reaction is: :ohwell:
I'm not too excited about her, actually, I'm not at all, but I don't think she was a bad decision.
She was to most people, a hype killer during E3. However, like you said, once the dust was settled she became an accepted Smasher.

Probably for the same reason some people are opposed to Robin (Fire Emblem) as a newcomer. They are just "avatars". Plus, the Miis are mostly present in "casual" games (I hate this word), which unfortunately give them an undeserved bad reputation.

Here's an idea I had; What if Miis replaced the Alloys as the new mooks?

Miis would have randomly generated faces, and in Cruel Smash, the Miis would have the faces of major Nintendo creators like Sakurai, Miyamoto, Reggie...

I'd be fine with Robin. He's a better choice than Chrom, at least.

Miis deserve their bad reputation, though, and belong in a garbage can. They look uglier than that fake Ridley from the CSS "leak".

But of course, I'm not their biggest fan myself. Picking them is one of two ways to get me to look down on you in Mario Kart, the other is Rosalina. I'll likely target you too.

Jokes aside (I really won't judge you on your character picks, I swear.), I think they're the most deserving Nintendo, erm, "character" left. They pretty much fill every condition you can think of, except "uniqueness" or whatever, but I choose to ignore that. They're not much different from Villager, an avatar in a hugely popular "casual" (I'm with you, if there's any word I hate the most in video game terms, it's this one and "INNOVATION".) and recognizable series. If Villager can get in, and deservingly so, then Miis have even more reasons to. I doubt Sakurai cares about the vocal minority that are against Miis.

Only thing I'm lost on is how balanced they'll be. Miis are likely gonna be the most customizable character in the game, and they come in all shapes and sizes, so hitboxes and all that will be a bit awkward to work around. I can't think of a fighting game example of a character like that.

See I don't think wft was a hype killer at all. It was such an out of the ball park newcomer that people couldn't believe it and had to see what it was all about. Which brought more people onto the website and got people talking. Not to say that smash needed the help, but every little bit counts.
