Would anyone consider Greninja as a "WTF" character? I mean, everyone thought it was Mewtwo because of the fab hype-train, and the "WTF"-factor is what is most common in live reaction videos, or just reactions to Greninja's trailer in general.

Not really, he is a really logical choice with some hind-sight bias. I mean, I can't say that I didn't exclaim, "What the Hades?!" when he was unveiled. But he isn't really "WTF" character material.

(however I do feel he might be the next likeliest capcom character, due to Sakurai stating he doesn't like fighting game characters in Smash, and due to Ace Attorney's connection to Nintendo)

I do...somewhat. Didn't expect him to make the game actually.

The perfect WTF character would be Crash Bandicoot. I mean think about it: Mario, Sonic, and Crash all in the same game would be mind blowing since they were the mascots of the console wars back in the 90's

I made this before Smash was announced, I think. Spring of '10. We were coming off the high of Gen V, and the OoT3D remake. Most of us were pretty sure a MM remake was on the way. (Eventually that article where Miyamoto was like "Should we do MM remake or ALttP" came out and we saw which was chosen)



Anyways, I was ****in' wrong. Although I'm not sure if we knew how small of a role Medusa played in KI:U. Also I'm not sure if Chrom was even Chrom yet. (He may have still been Krom) and of course Greninja didn't exist yet.

Still, way wrong.

Who owns the Crash Bandicoot series currently anyways? From what I know there are a myriad of different publishers and developers for that franchise, and Vivendi was absorbed into Activision Blizzard. I guess Activision Blizzard does. Wow...

I wouldn't really consider any popular character a WTF character.

Like... nobody is expecting Banjo and Kazooie, nobody thinks they have a chance, but if they were confirmed, they wouldn't be called WTF characters, and I think it relates to popularity.

Nobody thought of Game and Watch, ROB, and WFT, they were barely established characters at all.

Greninja had already been getting pretty talked about, and while WFT makes a lot of sense too in retrospect, it's a different case.

Maybe being hilarious is part of it too. I laughed all through WFT's reveal trailer (just like I did with Pink Gold Peach), but not Greninja's. Savvy Stylist is a joke character and seems like she'd be a funny addition, but there are less likely and less popular characters that still wouldn't be considered joke characters.

I honestly don't know. I'm just confusing myself at this point.

I didn't buy that game simply because of the lack of Crash and Spyro, two Playstation icons that should've been in the damn game

I wasn't expecting Rosalina, WFT, and Greninja. In regards to veterans I thought Toon Link was either going to be revamped or cut and I had doubts regarding Lucario. I also thought they would fix Pokemon Trainer rather than having Charizard go solo.

Because regardless of where their fame comes from, they're not Sony.

That's the reason why Smash Bros's roster is so successful: Because Nintendo owns all the characters they're known for.

For a while I didn't expect Greninja & WFT...the others weren't such a surprise to me, in fact I saw it coming with my own eye!

I take offense to that, crash(and spyro) was the sh*t back in the day it sucks they are pretty crap now though.

Quick question guys: Robin vs. Chrom for 3rd FE rep? Pros and cons. Guys on IGN won't talk about it.

I think Robin's a better choice, more variety, magic, more unique, could call units to battle for him/her instead of just being combat-only, could have male and female costumes, etc.

Thoughts?
