There is literally no source that claims that Ragnell's ranged attack is blue fire.
Instead, it comes up as a "shockwave" or the typical Sword Beam, a common fictional sword trope.

That might be true.
I'm just regurgitating info I heard from other people. (specifically Project M people).
It makes sense to me, since it's a sword blessed by the Goddess and such.
You could assume a sword like that could shoot any kinda energy based attacks.

Also, Marth's Shield Breaker from Melee to Brawl doesn't function literally the exact same either (nor in Smash 4, apparently), but it can't be argued that it isn't the same attack. Same with Roy's Flare Blade and Ike's Eruption.

I'd say the 2 variations of Shield Breaker are different attacks.
They're used for completely different things, so that's how I'd classify it.
(Melee Shield Breaker for edge guards/flashy shiz, Brawl for recovery/less effective flashy shiz)
They only share the same name, and the fact that they do excessive shield damage.
Flare Blade and Eruption are also used for different things.
Depends on the person, I guess.

EDIT: Regarding his nickname, I think the mere fact that Ike is even associated with fire of any kind somewhat justifies the move. It just needs to be blue this time.

I mean, why add in a filler newcomer instead of just returning the characters that have already been in Smash and have fans who expect them to return?

"Recency, low priority" remember, that was my state of mind through the whole speculation.
Lucas was one of them, but I no longer believed that he would be cut later because he was not really fighting for the spot between a new protagonist.

As for the "Hero of Blue Flames" moniker, it is because of the final battle in Radiant Dawn, where the goddess Yune infused all of her remaining power into Ike, giving him an aura of blue flame, not because of the Sword Beam.
This blue flame is just aesthetic, though. It just serves as a Battle Aura, another common trope.

Not saying that it wouldn't make sense for Ike to suddenly have an Aura-based attack (since Aura = blue flame in Smash) in place of Eruption, but him having a Sword Beam and a one-time Battle Aura made up of blue flames =/= Ragnell having magical fire capability like Sword of Seals, blue or orange.

I completely missed the mark on Wii Fit Trainer (as did everyone), Rosalina, and Greninja.



Actually, would Rosalina and Greninja have been fairly obvious predictions in the non-speculation scene, given their general popularity (and, to an extent, promotion) within their respective universes?

I had all returning vets (I do hope they all return, but I do have a few that I personally think can afford to be cut if worst comes to worst).

I didn't expect WFT, Greninja, and Rosalina (I didn't reject the idea if she came up pre-reveal though, I just have other Mario characters I'd love to see). Villager, pre-E3, I had on an "unsure" list, which, separate from my roster, I guess means that depending if Sakurai changed his mind on certain things, such characters on the "unsure" list may get in... which I guess he did haha.

Yeah, the only thing that made me unsure of Villager is his connection to Animal Crossing, which is a peaceful series, and Sakurai saying he's "unfeasible" (not that I thought Villager doesn't have moveset potential). I kinda thought that people would get the wrong impression on the series as a whole, if we have a fighter from AC (uh, Nintendo does have a similar stance to Miis when it comes to adding them in party-like game, but times are different, so we'll see). I always thought that had not Sakurai made that statement about Villager during Brawl, we who have seen Villager on a lot of people's rosters (AC is a pretty big series, right?).

The newcomers I missed were Wii Fit Trainer and Greninja (Not even kidding- I have had Mega Man, Little Mac, and Rosalina on every prediction roster I've ever made, and Villager I was 50/50 on, he went on and off my roster, but he was on my latest one before E3 2013, so I count him)
The only veteran I missed was Toon Link. Only time I've ever been slightly surprised by a veteran reveal.
I was beginning to doubt Ike this past month, but he was still on my prediction roster, so I'm counting him as not missing. Plus I rated him as having a 70-80% on the RTC thread.

If all the characters from Brawl were to return at this point (barring Snake, Ivsaur, and Squirtle), the roster would clock in at 41 characters. Given Sakurai's comments about the roster reaching its "feasible" limit, this may leave little room for more characters.

How? The Brawl roster has 39 characters; once you subtract Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur we are left with 36 characters plus the 6 newcomers, so that would be 42 characters, wouldn't it? I am seriously wondering, did I overlook something?

Rosalina arguably had a spike once it was revealed she was in 3D World.

Had she not been revealed prior, she probably would have gotten another spike when Baby Rosalina was revealed.

I still remember when Wii Fit Trainer was revealed, I wasn't a part of this forum (obviously). I will still on "Test Your Might" which is a Mortal Kombat/Injustice forum. I am predominately a Smasher, so I was in the thread dedicated to Smash and someone posted the picture of "Wii Fit Trainer Weighs In," I complimented him on his editing skills and thought it was a great joke.

This wasn't too relevant, it just reminds me of my reaction to someone "speculating" in favor of Wii Fit Trainer prior to her reveal. But yeah, I am sure some people saw her coming.

Layton is actually a known character and is fairly wanted among fans. I don't think he can be compared to Wii Fit Trainer.

Not exactly comparable. But, make sure you go to 4chan and type "my unlikely predictions" followed by characters that you want/think are unlikely. If any one of them gets in you are regarded as a prophet.

I predicted Wii Fit as a series would get representation, but I was leaning more towards a stage. Called the Balance Board in the back and everything, along with the Vitality Sensor for the lulz.

If you want to get real nitpicky you could say Matt from BitF predicted she'd get in, since she was in a comic long before Smash 4's reveal trailer.

I think WFT as the "WTF character" is suffice.

I would personally enjoy an additional "WTF character," but again, I am not too salty about Wii Fit Trainer. I believe that her inclusion is genius. However, I can relate with you. I am still bothered by Game & Watch and R.O.B. One is enough if you are really discontent with said character.
