I really doubt that the Hoenn remakes are going to affect the roster in any way given how late they are; We don't have any content from Tropical Freeze or Super Mario 3D World yet, for the record.

Still, I'm really happy to see the remakes. I've sunk so much time into Emerald, can't wait to do it again.

Nevertheless, I'm not dismissing the plausibility of getting another newcomer Pokemon character if Game Freak wanted to promote the remake.

It's too little too late to be thinking about the Ruby and Sapphire remakes if you asked me. Smash 3DS will be out before those games anyway.
No! I'm 100% sure now about why the 3DS version of Smash is coming out in the Summer. Sakurai and Nintendo are not crazy! We all know Pokemon is the MAJOR reason why Nintendo's handheld systems sell like hotcakes and it would be silly for Smash and the heavily requested Gen 3 remakes to be coming out so close together. I'm almost positive this means Smash 3DS will come out at the end of July which would be right around the time Japan's summer vacation starts and would allow the maximum amount of time for playing Smash between these 2 major releases.

That's at least how I see it.

I suppose you are correct; that makes sense in hind-sight. I still don't believe that it is a good decision, it is a detriment to the Wii U version, but they do not want any significant hand-held competition.

Apparently everyone is clamoring for Sceptile to adhere to their arbitrary pattern; I don't believe that game was "too late," as Sakurai was aware of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for awhile longer than the general public. That being said, I doubt another newcomer as well. If Mewtwo makes it into the roster (about a 99% chance). That would definitely be over-saturation and way too much time spent developing new Pokemon.

Sceptile could draw some similarities to Mewtwo actually I'd think! I can easily see Sceptile doing Mewtwo's tail attacks.

Sceptile's weaknesses should align with Chraizard's strengths and Sceptile's strengths should align with Greninja's weaknesses.

Perhaps, Sceptile could attach a hitchiker bur onto the opponent. Staying still results in the bur splitting in half and falling off, doing no damage. However, movement results in damage. A landed hit does an additional percentage of its attack damage to the enemy and results in the bur falling off. It would punish Greninja for moving too much (including his Up air and Shadow Sneak attack).

I think people are overrating Sceptile's chances. My question is, if they would truly include a Hoenn starter, why would they pick Sceptile over Blaziken? I usually see, "He would complete the starter trio." but honestly, the only time this mattered was the Pokémon Trainer. Now, I'm not saying his chances are next to none, but I don't think he's very likely either.

Is it wrong that I'd gladly see Sceptile take Jigglypuff's place?
It kinda is, but I understand as everyone has their own tastes and preferences. I'd personally be upset if Sceptile somehow made it to playable status before my beloved Blaziken.

So wait, people are still thinking the grass-fire-water thing has to happen?
Unfortunately. People are giving arguments towards Sceptile based on very arbitrary standards for a third gen rep.

And that is a MASSIVE if.

No, I'd actually accept almost any Pokémon other than Puff. No hard feelings Puff fans, but I never cared for her inclusion in the first place. I personally think there were more deserving characters. Even when she appeared in the Anime.

I guess Roy getting in Melee before his game was released should be taken into consideration, but IMO even by Pokemon's standards this remake seems a little too late, but eh.

I still don't think the whole "grass water and fire starters" thing really holds any water either.

It always confused me that she got in over Meowth.

Jigglypuff is just as important as any of the other pokemon not pushed by Game Freak in their games. She makes as much sense to stick around as like Garbodour would to be made playable. So what if she got a new type?

Aren't people forgetting that Jigglypuff is one of the easiest characters to make?

Jiggs has become important to Smash at this point, but that's mostly what she has going for her. I guess her being a Fairy-type could mean she could be revamped, but at the same time she's been an easy character to make from the start, which is likely why she got in over Meowth in the first place. I also think this is why she was low-priority in Brawl, doesn't necessarily mean she was meant to be scrapped if other characters got in her way, but this doesn't count out that possibility either.

Overall Jigglypuff is a veeeeeeeeery unlikely cut IMO. I'm expecting (and hoping) to see her and Mewtwo on the final roster.

Wouldn't "easy characters" still take up disk space or whatever? I don't know, technical stuff like that is beyond me. Anyway, if Jigglypuff returns, then so be it and I'll be fine with it (and she will most likely return anyway), but I wouldn't mind at all if she gets the cut and gives her spot on the roster to someone else.

I don't mind either, so far were getting 40-50 characters, of course out of those 40-50 charac, there's always few characters that we hate.....

and already 30 characters is enough. But, due to the lack of "variety" Nintendo series not being playable character, I desire to increase the roster size because it does not please me how it is now.

Still hoping for W101 to be playable.

Um, hello, Blaziken anyone?
His popularity is humongous. Sceptile has never really been Mr. Popularity, to be honest.

Nope, he doesn't complete a pattern that may or may not matter. No chance whatsoever. We have to go for the starter that completes the trio even if that character has little merit aside from that.

I don't really like Blaziken, but I have to admit his chances are better than Sceptile.
Still, Sceptile I feel would be more unique and bring more to the table. But Game Freak would probably push him to Smash Bros.

He is the newcomer with the most evidence in his favor? Logic dictates that he is the most feasible choice.

Oh wait... Hoenn confirmed. Yep, first Lucario replaced Mewtwo, and then Greninja replaced Mewtwo, I suppose a 3rd generation Pokemon is the next to "replace" Mewtwo? :denzel:

I'm still betting on Mewtwo and Jigglypuff, and I never said otherwise.

I'm just saying that if we were to get a 3rd gen Pokemon that Blaziken makes the most sense.

Sakurai said uniqueness is a big part of his choosing characters... frankly Blaziken seems like another Captain Falcon clone to me.

And Sceptile shares a ninja motif with Greninja.

Your point? Personally I think that both Blaziken and Sceptile would fit, but neither of them will make the final roster.

If a Majora's Mask remake was happening instead of a Hoenn remake, people would probably predict for Skull Kid.

On a side note, Groudon and Kyogre's mega evolutions both have omega and alpha marks on them. Infinite Emerald anyone?
