There are five Mario characters.

But Yoshi originated from a Mario game, is still in Mario games, and even has a Final Smash that references abilities from a Mario game.

And Wario, as removed as he is from the Mario series, is still basically the Mr. Hyde to Mario's Dr. Jekyll.

I can see people perceiving there being six characters if not seven in the Mario series.

That isn't Mario. That's Jumpman. Look his clothes are different, and he's a carpenter. Mario is a plumber.
You know, there's a certain series that's supposed to be sequels of the original Donkey Kong series.

Call it a hunch, but I think that might be Mario, considering "Jumpman" knows who Pauline is.

Off topic, but I can't believe you missed Donkey Kong GB.

That game is like a literal sequel, going through most of the original Donkey Kong levels and then moving on to other worlds.

Those are completely separate franchises in Sakurai's views, therefore are separate franchises to me!
Regardless of what others may think, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario have interacted with Mario outside of the spin-off titles at least once, so they're still treated as being Mario Universe characters, even if they have their own franchises.

Of course, Yoshi has stronger ties to the Mario franchise than Donkey Kong and Wario, since he and Mario share the exact same antagonist; Bowser.

I hope I'm on the good thread for this.

This is a survey from a large (non-smash) website. "Which character should add Nintendo to SSB4?" Please take a look:

4% Ridley... poor France...

Amelia won't let me say
Scrap Falco for Wolf.
As a Falco main, no. 8D And, quite frankly, I'm surprised that's all anybody had to say. The other picks are strictly more unusual than Falco.

On a more related note, does it really matter if a character is technically from this series or that series? Really? I don't think Mario having 5 characters is going to stop Pokemon from having 6 if Sakurai wants. Hell, if every Pokemon who's been in a previous game returned, we'd have 9 total. Now, is that a bit extreme? Perhaps, but I fail to see why having many reps is so alarming, nor how a character's origins somehow effects likeliness.

It's interesting how they have Rayman high up there. I mean, I can understand, with it being a French series and all.

I'd like Rayman content in Smash. Won't happen, but I'd like it nonetheless.
Mainly stuff from Rayman 1 and Rayman 2, though.

The first Rayman has amazing music.

I have some questions about Shulk

  • Is Xenoblade Second Party?
  • Does this mean Nintendo can lose the rights to Xenoblade
  • What has Xenoblade done outside of mainstream installments (Ex: Cameos)

1) No, it's an IP from a non-Nintendo first party dev, Monolith. It's like FE or Kirby.
2) It's possible if they sell Monolith and Monolith retains the rights to the IP, but that situation is unlikely.
3) Nothing? It's only been around a few years.

Xenoblade is first party as Nintendo owns Monolith Soft.
Nintendo cannot lose the rights to Xenoblade unless they sell Monolith to another company.
Xenoblade hasn't done any cameos. However, Project Rainfall (which Xenoblade was a part of) received a lot of media attention and has started other fan petitions for new games (the most predominantly being Project Moonfall).

Actually, Monolith Soft IS owned by Nintendo, I just looked it up

N3ON said it's non-Nintendo. That was his mistake
It isn't Nintendo themselves, it's a company owned by Nintendo. Their IPs can be Nintendo IPs, as Nintendo owns the rights to software made by companies it owns but the company isn't Nintendo.

So like during Nintendo 64 Era, Banjo-Kazooie was first party? Just curious.
IPs made by Rare when they were with Nintendo were second-party, like Pokemon, as Nintendo did not own the majority of the company but did own partial rights to some of the IPs.

Second-parties work on a much more case-by-case basis, there are a lot of different scenarios with them.

No.

Most of the evidence for Mewtwo's exclusion points to time constraints. Mewtwo's another character I really want in this game.
The thing I don't understand is why cut mewtwo just to add more semi-clones like wolf and Lucas? I would think that all unique characters would have taken priority. Were clones just easier to make, so they said "screw you Mewtwo"?

He might dive a bit more deeply into the mother games for a different special moveset, also even though ness and lucas have alot of different normals they kind of play very similar which is something he may want to try and change.
I would agree with that, but i generally can't stand Ness, and love Lucas.

It's not funny, it's heartbreaking.
Probably one of the saddest legacies in Nintendo's history. I'd certainly be supporting him if he hadn't gotten sold off (then again, he probably would have already gotten in by now).

I can't imagine not having got him in Brawl if he were still owned by Nintendo. Especially since Banjo-Threeie was in development for the Gamecube.
Still very saddening to think about. :(

heheheheheheheheh
Dangerous to have a post so devoid of content, laughing at Banjo's fate, and upsetting a mod.

It's even more hilarious how Microsoft has never actually actually used that IP because it wasn't Halo.
They did use that IP. Very improperly.

I honestly think it is funny; I mean Smash would be great with Banjo, but you have to admit that it is humorous. I wonder who we would be missing if Banjo was in the game (if anyone).
Would it still be funny if M$ bought GF instead and Jiggs was yanked right out of Smash? :p
