I'll admit that I consider Yoshi, Wario, and Donkey Kong part of the Mario Franchise but I completely understand why they are considered their own franchise in Smash.

First, I'd like to bring up games. The Yoshi Series has about 10 games. The Donkey Kong Series has well over 20 games. And finally the Wario Series has around 19 games. These series more than double a couple of other franchises represented in Smash.

Second, their individual moveset appears to come from games that are part of their series, not the Mario Series.

Third, (This pertains to the Donkey Kong Series), Donkey doesn't share almost anything with Mario in his respected series. Unlike Yoshi who shares some enemies, Donkey Kong has his own which never appear in Mario games outside of maybe one or two spin-offs.

Like every other fighting game? That seems preposterous!
I know my ideas are outside the box, but you'll just have to trust me on this one. ;)

That, and balance also plays a role. Honestly ICs seperated would more will be more of a detriment then a benefit. The MAIN thing they need fixing is their chaingrabbing.
So much this I don't even know where to begin.

I concur, I classify Yoshi as a Mario character, but consider Wario and DK to be pretty much their own worlds at this point.

Happy 500 pages everyone! To celebrate, say which unconfirmed character you are hoping will be in Smash the most! Mine is Issac from Golden Sun, since Megaman is in :) and Saki got AT'd :(
Paper Mario, he's been my most wanted for a while now and he has the potential to be a really unique addition. He has popularity(at least that's what I've heard) and he's relevant and could represent a good portion of the Mario Series that doesn't receive too much love, the RPG side.

King K. Rool, He's among the most likely that I really want to see in Smash. Although he isn't too relevant anymore, he has popularity, moveset potential, and is an iconic character.

The direct says there would not be any more transformations. The ice climbers did not transform, nana simply mirrored popo. I imagine rosalina and luma will operate somewhat similarly albeit more advanced.
In case you didn't think my post was important enough to be read. I never said Ice Climbers transformed. I just worry that there might be separations outside of swap-out character.

Dude, you really don't have to be so defensive.

People are talking about Ice Climbers getting cut?
Well, they;re a fan-favorite retro with a unique style.
Polar Bear in Smash Run.
Kirby had a customizable freeze attack.
And, honestly, looking at Rosaluma's moveset trailer...
I think she looks MUCH more complicated than Ice Climbers and Olimar.
You've got a point...Rosaluma is technically two movesets, just one is less complicated.

I hope I'm on the good thread for this.

This is a survey from a large (non-smash) website. "Which character should add Nintendo to SSB4?" Please take a look:

View attachment 12312

4% Ridley... poor France...
As a french person, I know this website, and I can tell you that it is full of dull users, and its reviewers tend to be more elitist than they want to make believe.

They also did a list of characters (pretty old actually) they would like to see included too : http://www.gamekult.com/actu/smash-bros-wii-u-3ds-notre-casting-A109360.html

Bayonetta was their first choice, it could be a first explanation

Some of their choices are fine (Shulk !), but we can see they really aren't as Nintendo fans as us for example, like other french websites of the same kind.

And it's a shame.

I think it's just a groundless fear, Saturn. As far as their appearance, Ice Climbers have always come in a duo. Separating them wouldn't make any sense to their character design, and on top of that, I think they've managed to program more complicated relationships than Nana and Popo's. Not that I'm a programmer, or in fact know anything about programming, but it seems to me that if Popo's action=x seconds, then Nana's action=x seconds+y seconds, where y is the delay in their attacks. That is to say, you can just program her actions to be delayed by a fraction of a second after Popo's. I would think the active separation of two similarly controlled characters, such as Rosaluma, would be more complicated, and if they can handle that, then the Ice Climbers shouldn't be under speculation. At least, not for that reason.

If anything, we're just trying to allay your fears-- if this many people think there's no cause for concern, then we're probably fine.

Anyone have any predictions as to whose going to be revealed next? If it were me, I'd say Ness or Chrom
Revealed next? I'd rule Chrom, or any newcomer, out. I don't think we're going to see another newcomer before we get another veteran.

But I don't have any idea what veteran would be revealed next.

Umm the separated characters are all transformers, you seemed to be lumping the ice climbers in with them, despite the fact they are totally different. The direct never implied that mirror characters were going to be stand alone, and I don't see how you could even think so with a character like Rosalina and luma confirmed.

Ice Climbers seem pretty likely. They're pretty much confirmed already anyway, due to the Polar Bear in Smash Run, but I didn't really doubt their inclusion before that.

Not sure who would be revealed next, but we could see Ike sometimes this week or next week. It is around Path of Radiance's release, after all.

We won't see a newcomer until E3.

Mine haven't changed at all since E3 last year, still holding out for one of my top five. (Isaac, Shulk, Mewtwo, Chibi Robo & Robin) Although I did really want an Animal Crossing rep, even though I hoped for Tom Nook he doesn't seem necessary now anyway.

The smash direct destroyed most of the lower half of my top ten. (Ridley, Lip and Saki) The only other characters I really care for outside my top five now is Mallo (Pushmo) and an advance wars rep. (Andy or Sami) Maybe Palutena at a stretch but I'm not overly fussed about her.

I just want ROB to be revealed so the ridiculous thinking of him getting cut can end.

Isn't Nana basically just a copy/paste of Popo?
Luma doesn't have his own recovery or down b, but has everything else
I don't think Nana would be separated just because a recovery and down B. Especially when she's very important to the recovery.
Once again, I would prefer that people read my posts before responding to them. Because I never said anything about Nana's move set.

I hope the next veteran is Ike.
I hope the next newcomer is King K. Rool.

I expect the next veteran to be Ness.
I expect the next newcomer to be Chrom.

Just me guessing. :dizzy:

Ice Climbers almost definitely don't fall into the same category as transformation characters.

When it comes down to it, there's probably (and I'm just guessing here - I'm no mind reader and I'm certainly not Sakurai) two reasons why the transformation characters were separated. Firstly, there's the plain and simple fact that nobody used them. Nearly everybody I know would go for one of the transformations and never switch unless they had to (*COUGH*pokemonTrainer*COUGH*).

But going beyond that, it'd probably wreak havoc on the 3DS's RAM. Imagine if you had a match of Zelda vs. Samus vs. Pokemon Trainer. Straight off the bat, the dev team is at a cross-roads - they either make the transformations ridiculously slow and load the characters in on the fly, or they pre-load all the characters into memory at the beginning of the match (meaning there'd be at least 7 characters loaded into memory, in this scenario). On the other hand, Ice Climbers may technically be two characters in terms of mechanics, but in terms of animations, stats and moves, they're one and the same - Popo is no different to Nana and Nana no different to Popo. In that respect they're not in the same boat as transformation characters, as the developers could just use pointers to one area in memory, with every Ice Climber on screen loading their data (model and textures aside) from the same area in RAM.

So yeah. Ice Climbers might run into technical issues, but I imagine they'll be entirely different to the issues that may have contributed to the removal of transformation characters.

There are more original moves in Rosalina and Luma's moveset than there is in the Ice Climbers' moveset.

So it's the other way around.
I said "Less". "Less" does not mean "unoriginal" it means fewer in number. Just because they are both negative adjectives doesn't mean they mean the same thing. For the third time, I'd like to request that people actually read my posts before responding to them. Thank you.

That doesn't make any sense. Mach Rider has plenty of source material. He doesn't need stuff made up for him. He has a blaster for neutral special, a bike that shoots for a side special, he can change into particles and teleport for his upward special, and there are oil drums which would make a good downward special.
