Of course not, I would've mentioned that.

See, the idea is that both are extremely popular so...
I don't see why they would decide to include both.
When my son asks me where nopes come from. I tell him it's from rosters that replace Ike.
I'm not actually a father.

How do you know?
Maybe they're not the same, but maybe they are.
Loopholes are funny like that don't ya think?
Well, it's heavily implied that they're the same entity, and I would love to bring out my Pikmin nerd powers, but I'll restrain myself.

And yes, loopholes are completely and utterly hilarious.

Well, for conveniences sake, I'll just consider them two different entities till further notice.
And I will consider them the opposite of what you consider them.

  1. I object
  2. I DID answer your question. Just because you don't accept an argument or answer doesn't mean it wasn't made.
Anyway, SIST TRUFFLESSS!!!!!!
BA! BA! BA! BA!

Keep in mind, I don't think these Assist Trophies will all appear simultaneously. Some are alternates of others.
Hey, where did you get that Titan Dweevil picture? I haven't seen it before. I'd really like to make a proper icon for it.

I rewatched the megaman vs Mario trailer and noticed that stale move negation isn't in smash 4?

When Mario used his down smash it did 15%. So when Mario used it again it should do less damage and knock back.

Mario used it again and it still gave megaman 15% and still had the same knock back as the first hit.

Im happy since that means stale move negation is removed.

Is there a consensus on whether the characters revealed on smashbros.com are all starters or not?

To be consistent with previous games, it might be logical to assume that they are all starters except third parties (Sonic).
But that leaves some characters who don't seem like they should be starters i.e. Lucario, Luigi, Sheik and ZSS.

That trailer was made over a year before the game will be complete, so it just might not have been implemented yet.

One change, I dont see roy coming back over chrom, but I could be wrong..

I also think its possible for fire emblem to have 4 reps with roy replacing mii, pacman, takamaru or shulk but imo this roster is more likely, not sure how aware sakurai is of roys popularity.

Again greninja is turtles.

Id also like to point out that Issac could be a character added as well.

I may not be a huge fan of the Mother franchise but...I kinda fail to see how Lucas would be cut/low priority other than some of his moves being similar to Ness'.
Thing with Lucas is that he was basically added to represent the new Mother game, but now it's not so new anymore, so he's not needed as much, and he's not like Lucario who continued to stay relevant and popular. It wouldn't be so bad if he represented other things about the Mother series on his own, but he basically just represents everything that Ness already does, the silent main protagonist, he doesn't even differentiate himself from Ness that much in moveset either. Out of all of the characters from Brawl Lucas seems like one of the more unnecessary additions for this game, thus makes me think he's one of the more likely cuts. This of course is ignoring the fact that Mother in itself is a small and obscure series, which I think is relevant when deciding who to cut.

Lucas wasnt even relevant when he was originally included lol

I'd be okay with the following cuts

-Snake
-Ike
-Lucas
-Falco(highly doubt this will happen but I could dream lol)

Squirtle and ivysaur are long gone now.

More space for newcomers

Lucas represents Mother 3, which is a game Ness does not appear in and very different in many aspects from the first two games, so he does represent something Ness does not. Lucas should still get new special moves though.

And with characters like Toon Link, Zero Suit Samus and Shiek returning things are looking good.
Exactly. Toon Link is good evidence that Lucas has a pretty high chance of coming back. While Toon Link plays very differently than regular Link, his moves are much more similar to Link than Lucas' are to Ness.

His game represents different things then Ness's game does, but not Lucas himself compared to Ness himself. If you want to represent differences in games you have stages to do that.

Sakurai finds having an adult Link and a child Link to be important, also Toon Link is very iconic and very popular, with his design appearing in many games. Zero Suit Samus represents a different and important part of Samus and is Sakurai's way of adding a 2nd character to the very popular Metroid series. Sheik is a very popular character amongst Smash fans and Zelda fans, has been in Smash Bros. since Melee, and represents another side of Zelda (which Zelda disguising herself is a reoccurring aspect of the series) and has only become more relevant with the release of Ocarina of Time 3D Lucas doesn't have any of that.

I honestly think your stretching it a bit, all of those characters could have easily been cut, Lucas wouldnt have been added in the first place if sakurai didnt think he was important, I mean last game it was ness that was on the rocks not lucas, Im not really too worried, if tink and zamus made it I think all brawl vets are fine (minus squirtle and ivy since they were just tack ons to validate pokemon trainer who wasnt even associated with the actual iconic red unfortunately.)

Huh? Squirtle is very iconic.
Not really, I mean he is one of the original starters but thats as far as it goes really, charizard, mewtwo and pikachu are what I call Iconic.

Now you may bring up Greninja and I will say idk why greninja was chosen other than the fact he is new and very liked (or possibly as a replacement water type...?) as for anything else idk maybe gamefreak has marketing plans with him who knows?

P.S. Technically squirtle and ivy may not even be cut but like I said their non iconicness really hurts them, they felt like really oddball additions in the first place only to justify the Pokemon trainer gimmic like dr. mario or pichu.

I'm stretching it? Sakurai said a child Link is important to have and that ZSS is his way of adding a 2nd Metroid character which he thinks deserves two characters. Why would he want them gone? I'll give you Shiek since Sakurai didn't say anything about her being an important/necessary addition to have, but still. What you said about Lucas could said about anyone added, yet characters still get cut. Ness has become very iconic and very popular based on all his appearances in the Smash series, and I'm sure Sakurai knows this, and Ness was only "on the rocks" back when Lucas and Mother 3 were new which they're not anymore, also Earthbound is more critically received and more well known game (helps being released worldwide) so keeping Lucas over Ness now makes little sense.
