My question is: Does Sakurai care about a franchise not having games for a while, if a unique character is brought up? I know Pit was dormant before his revival, so I would want to know.

Yeah, but here's the thing: I highly doubt that Wolf will return, he was probably the least unique of the StarFox characters added, more importantly I kinda stunk with him, and Pit's been in a huge slumber for more than 7 years and still been in Brawl, so I'm not changed after reading this

How is Wolf the lest unique? Falco is far more similar to Fox then Wolf was. So because you were bad with Wolf that means he's likely to not return?

If Sakurai truly never cared about Rareware, then we probably wouldn't have seen Diddy Kong (And again, most of his movesets like Peanut Popgun), Donkey Kong & the Kremlings in Smash Run show up.

Plus we wouldn't get Jungle Japes & Kongo Jungle (N64 & Melee) stages as thats Rareware & we can't have that! (For some reason)

Not to mention the DK rap & a selection of other music from Donkey Kong Country.

Remember when Smashboards was quiet and peaceful? Me too...it was nice. ANYWAYS! How many people do you think are going to throw out the "K.Rool is owned by Rare" now that we have the Kremlings in Smash Bros?

That reminds me...why support K Rool if Sakurai doesn't care about Rare? Its pointless!

I don't recall that Rareware could even possibly own something that Nintendo subjects to cameo appearances long after Rare departed that's also happening to be an integral DK character.

Furthermore, I don't even recall that even being a legitimate K Rool detractor. It doesn't hinder K Rool in the slightest.

You'd be surprised at how many people (Especially Miiverse) say that K Rool can't be in because "He's owned by Microsoft".

Falco was, and stilll is, waaaaay less unique than Wolf is and he wasn't even on the chopping block. A similar case could happen with Wolf.

Nobody said Rareware owns it. It's just more associated with their history and thus games like Star Fox Adventures and Diddy Kong Racing DS aren't really acknowledged in the SSB series.

What are you basing any of this on? I'm guessing, just like you, unless you have info/evidence I'm not aware of to say that either of those two are "practically confirmed". My roster prediction is no more than 42 characters, based off what sakurai has said. Therefore for my prediction is 5-6 cuts gotta made (since I think there is probably 2-3 unannounced new comers at this point), and that is how I picked them.

Does Diddy Kong Racing really need to be acknowledged? It's a spinoff game of a spinoff series. Starfox Adventures is probably not referenced that much due to being so drastically different from your typical Starfox game.

I highly doubt the roster will be that small. Think about it...we'll most likely get at least 5 more characters before the game, we're at 29 characters already, and there will definitely be at least 10 characters hidden that we won't know about, so if we're thinking logically about this...the smallest we could get is about 44.

As much as I like wolf as a character, the fox's mighty bad *** arch-enemy, it never worked for me in Brawl. The same formula that was used with Captain Falcon and Ganondorf. Krystal could bring fresh air to the roster the same way that Wii-Fit Trainers, Villager and Palutena (We can agree that her chances to be a playable character are really high).

We're likely to have at least 10 unlockables, so it's pretty reasonable. Megaman and Sonic are likely locked.

No, I'm pretty sure a bit of the characters we know of currently will indeed be unlockables (Luigi, Sonic, Toon Link, Rosalina, Lucario, Greninja, etc.) but the fact is we currently have 29 characters revealed, and I'm sure we'll have more unlockables this time around than last time.

Considering how important ROB is to Nintendo history, essentially being the Mr. Game and Watch of Brawl, he is certainly not a very likely character to be on the chopping block, especially as he wasn't in the first place back in Brawl, along with Mr. Game and Watch himself.

Plus, people were like this with Mr. Game & Watch's fate in Brawl where most assumed he'd be removed.

You'd think people would wise up after he wasn't even on the chopping block. You know, considering that ROB is in the exact same situation that Mr. G&W was in Brawl.

If we're bringing up roster size again I'll just leave this here for reference:

Assuming that the leak is true and every character from Brawl returns (except for Snake and PT) then we'll reach at least a 48 character roster.
Assuming we get a 50~52 roster, then we have only 2 or 4 extra characters to choose from.

Saw someone trying to say that the Mii in the cage proves that Miis aren't playable, of course people already responded with the obvious Toon Link.

While that was a terrible reason, I still don't think Miis will be playable, and for two major reasons. One being that every character can be insanely customized, that's the Mii's biggest feature being taken by the entire roster. The second thing is the online, which Sakurai said the customized movesets couldn't be used on, would be strange to have a single character banned from the online wouldn't it? Now I could be wrong on this and Miis could get in with a generic moveset, but what would the point in that be? It would be like adding the Pokemon Trainer without any of his Pokemon imagine him running around throwing rocks and bait. Damn you Charizard.

As far as I know, there was that suggestion thingy on the site that Hotfeet444 mentioned, which not all posts/suggestions were posted. Sakurai hand-picked a certain amount, and of course people counted how many times X character showed up -- but that's hardly an accurate way of knowing how characters fare considering we only got a small amount of posts. Is this the one where Sonic ranked #1 (basically got requested the most)?

You're right, the "official poll" is a bit of a misnoner on my part. Sometimes people refer to the aggregation of the most requested characters Sakurai received in the pre-Brawl suggestions submitted for the game as a "poll" but there was really no cut-and-dry poll. It's not like there were a certain amount of choices given. Sakurai just opened himself up to suggestion via the site, and all we know about it is Sonic was number one.

Some of the suggestions sent in were posted on the site, and people combed through them, listed the characters most mentioned as those that "topped the poll", but they weren't working with full info anyway. As it stands, there were most requested characters (we don't know who placed where other than Sonic - though Mega Man apparently was the second highest request 3rd party), but yeah, no actual poll, and no full results known, unlike with Melee's results. In true Sakurai style, he had already chosen the roster bar Sonic anyway...

So the style Hotfeet described did sound like what happened pre-Brawl, but... Lucas's placing was never revealed.
My mistake though, I got caught up in inaccurate colloquialisms.

I kind of feel the same way. I think the Miis took a hit during the Direct, though not just for that reason. There's also that whole stage symbol thing going on. The Find Mii crown is definitely not suitable for Miis to use as their character symbol, and considering that the stage is so directly tied to Miis, why would it not use a symbol they could more plausibly use? Just the word Mii would have done well enough for a general symbol. So, at this point, I'm thinking the Miis might not be playable in Smash.

...Which would actually prove that whole E3 leak (and its follow up) wrong. Interesting.

Two days? It took over two weeks, and even them he was being ambiguous about what his role would be. I saw it as them wanting to hype up the Yellow Devil, slowly revealing him and the things he does until finally revealing how it all works. Now it's Ridley's turn.
