I curious what others are thinking in regards to maximum roster numbers and how many of those will be veterans vs new characters.

Based on the info we have been given, I would say the the roster will be between 38-42 characters, which leaves us with 13 spots max. So if that is true, who is in? Who is possibly out?

In my opinion there are 8 spots that are likely to be taken by veterans/or a new character from certain existing franchises.

First of the 8 is Wario. I say he is in because Ashley is an AT.

2. Ganondorf, I just can't see them cutting him, he is too iconic.

3. Starfox Universe. I think we will see Wolf or Falco, they may cut one, but there is no way any franchise with two or more reps now would be cut down to just one. That is just my opinion of course, but from Melee to Brawl no franchise with 2 reps or more was cut down to just one, so I don't think they will do it in this version. I will entertain the possibility we could lose Falco and/or Wolf to a new comer, but my gut tells me they are not going to cut Falco, him and Fox are like the dynamic space animal duo, and they would not separate them I think.

4. Jigglypuff,I could care less about her, but she is an original, therefore I say she is in.

5. Fire Emblem Universe, for the same reason as the star fox universe, we are either getting Ike, Roy or possibly somebody new.

6. Captain Falcon, I feel it would just not be smash without him, plus he's an original so I say he is in.

7-8. Ness/Earthbound Universe, I'm sure Ness will be announced, he is an original and though I would be fine if he was replaced by Lucas, it's unlikely. However, I don't think we will be cut down to just one Earthbound representative, and therefore I think will see Lucas or a new comer.

So those are the 8 spots that I am pretty sure are going to be filled up. Which leaves us with realistically with a max of 5 more IMO. So of those left(if you agree), who is going to make it in? Who will be cut? How many more new comers will we get out of the 5?

My feeling is that Meta Knight is probably in, I also think we will see either Mr. Game n Watch or the Ice Climbers or both return. I think the rest are probably cut, and we will have 2-3 spots left over for surprise new comers!

So what are everyone's thoughts on this topic of max rosters spots left and who is in, who is out?

I'm guessing he's have a lot of moves based on rhythm button pushes. Such as his AAA combo having a rhythm to make it the most effective.

That could make for interesting gameplay.

The opponent would try to throw Marshal off their rhythm, forcing him to respond "off-key"; Marshal would need to prioritize spacing to attack as per the beat.

There would probably be some sort of metronome bar above his character box, much like Mac's Power Meter. Perhaps a Down Special could even change the tempo of the Metronome Bar, thereby switching up the flavour of his attacks (e.g. 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, etc.). Lots of possibilities here.

I always thought Ridley SHOULD be a playable character and still do.
I just don't THINK he will be playable.

Same here. It's why I didn't include him on my roster because I just don't see him happening.

On another note, I feel like the main reason Sakurai separated transformation characters is so people would shut up about slots and focus on the fact that they are, in fact, characters that take the same development time as everyone else.
Which leads me to believe that he'll continue with adding Mewtwo and Jiggs, since Brawl had 6 Pokémon anyway.
I am still considering a 6th Mario character, though.

Now that I think about it, he's also the "mascot" of Rhythm Heaven.

Basically, the Sal leaks plus King K. Rool, Mach Rider, and Mewtwo. I like it.

Because I legitimately think he's getting in.

Mach Rider is the spiritual predecessor to F-zero, so in the sense, it is sort of an important Nintendo franchise because it influenced F-zero. Also take into account that Sakurai likes Mach Rider, saying that Mach Rider was his favorite choice for Melee (or something like that). He also hasn't been shot down as a choice yet in previous games, unlike the likes of Balloon Fighter and Sakurai has also mentioned that he likes to bring back retro characters. Since I consider Takamaru as a character to be "revived", I don't think he falls under the category of being revived.

Granted, it could be pretty much any non-disconfirmed retro character, but going with Mach Rider.

The idiots on Gamefaqs are in denial, they just don't want to let go of Ivysaur and Squirtle and believe that Mewtwo is irrelevant.

Ivy and Squirtle could certainly come back, but I think it's unlikely at this point.

I feel the same way about Ridley, which is why I've taken those three of my roster.

I like this one much more than the other because it doesn't have Mii, Pac-man, or Chrom. I don't mind Roy without a female FE rep only because he was my main in Melee.

Roy is on there, but pretty you could easily swap him out fro Chrom. Those two are in the lead for new FE character and it's really personal preference which you'd include.

A little big? Well that's the way I like it. 52 characters isn't so far fetched, considering that's pretty much what we were expecting if we count transformations.
Paper Mario is a filler 6th Mario character. Not too sure about his chances at the moment, but he's my preferred choice.
K. Rool was teased with the Kremlings in Smash Run, and quite frankly I think that makes him very likely. My biggest worry was that the Kremlings just didn't get recognition, but since they are K. Rool is a few steps above Dixie on the never-ending staircase.
Waddle Dee is a bit of a misc. addition here. I don't think he'll be in, truly, and I'm sure he'll be off my roster soon, but he was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about Dedede's "Gordo Throw".
Chibi-Robo can make for a very fun and unique addition. @ Opossum came up with a great idea for Robo that has him plugging himself into the stage. How cool is that?
Shulk makes a lot of sense. Xenoblade doesn't look like a one-time thing, so Shulk can certainly represent the new IP, if not just Monolith Soft as a whole.
Mewtwo isn't going anywhere.
Chrom is the most likely Fire Emblem character, like it or not. He has quite a bit of potential, even if they limit him to his sword. And must I mention Awakening's importance to the FE franchise? Probably not.
Palutena is an obvious choice and one of my personal wants.
Mach Rider is the token retro. I used to have Takamaru on here, but I decided that Greninja took his shtick. Not just with shurikens, but the whole jist of the character plays a lot like I imagined Takamaru playing. Mach was considered back in Melee, and can be a very unique mount character, locked onto his bike.
Pac-Man is looking even more likely with the Namco Arcade items/assists.
I wanted to cut Snake but since there were a few open slots I decided to add him back for the heck of it. Ivysaur and Squirtle are my only cuts.
I'm considering Isaac and Marshall, and I may put Mii back in there (although quite frankly the fact that the "Mii" stages have Pilotwings and Find Mii icons make me less confident).
Oh, and Mach Rider is expendable since I do want Takamaru back on there too.

This is also great and Chibi-Robo is an interesting choice in my opinion. And so is Mach Rider. I really don't know which retro character could be in at this point. I'm really expecting a good surprise for it. Takamaru still seems likely however.
