I think I've spent the last day mostly worrying about Ivysaur's and Squirtle's fates.

Ah well.

How unlikely is Pokémon getting 8 characters, by the way?
I'd say anything more than six is definitely pushing it...

Honestly, it seems like Sakurai is repeatedly running over Ridley with a bus at this point: He won't outright kill him and say he's not playable, but rather he is slowly torturing him and his fans. he still has a chance, but not too big of one at this point.
And to answer Falkoopa's question, I've never been a big supporter of "no cuts" myself, so I can't see 8 pokemon reps happening, which seems like the only reason for squirtle and ivysaur to come back.

Yes. So far, we only have 4 Pokémon in. Brawl had 6. Not to speak of that Mewtwo was still planned! So Brawl could've had 7 Pokémon.

Could happen, but it's unlikely. Not because of "TOO MANY POGEZMAN CHARACHURTS!", but because I just don't see Sakurai keeping Squirtle & Ivysaur now that the Pokemon Trainer is no more.

Mewtwo and Jigglypuff indeed are far more likely than Ivysaur and Squirtle at this point.

Which is a shame, cause I think I prefer both Ivysaur and Squirtle over Jigglypuff.

I just think Squirtle and Ivysaur are way more iconic than Jigglypuff. But I doubt that they'll come back anyway. Honestly, am fine with Mewtwo and Jigglypuff. The Puff has certainly grown on me during all the years of Smash. But I honestly wouldn't be too upset if another Pokémon got in before her. Sceptile for example? No problem. It's not gonna happen, but I think I'm still allowed to prefer this option right?

Even if we disclude Brawl (Though while technical wise it doesn't feel like 6 characters, it was still six pokemon), just because Pokemon technically has more icons than Mario does that really mean anything? Just because Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario have their own franchises doesn't mean it's wrong to associate them as Mario characters as well. - At the very least, they're in almost every spin-off. Is that really a sin? I knew my friends and I associated it that way even in Smash 64. Relax guys, it's not the end of the world.

Honestly the way I see it is that Smash focuses on the anime:
Pikachu and Charizard- Ash's Strongest Pokemon (Most well known Pokemon due to being on game carts as well as having very rare cards)
Jigglypuff- Icon of the anime with her and the marker (A fave of anime)
Lucario- Had his own movie (A fave of gen 4)
Mewtwo- Had two movies (A fan favorite out of all six gens)
Greninja- I think there is some type of movie about him and (Recent fave)

Honestly the only other character I could see getting in before any of them is Meowth because of Team Rocket, or Squirtle because of the Squirtle Squad. Ivysaur only got in because he came with Pokemon Trainer.

Edit: Oh I forgot about Pichu! He/She only got in thanks to the anime short with the Pichu Bros in Pokemon 3. That's why only Johto and Kanto Pokemon were in Pokeballs, Pichu was an icon o the Johto region.

That's an interesting theory, but I still don't think Mewtwo will return

Sakurai would look stupid if he only brought in two (Megaman and Little Mac) highly requested characters. And it already looks like Ridley is out of the picture (maybe) so if Mewtwo and Palutena are not in the game, something is seriously wrong.

After looking at the Nintendo Direct for Tomodachi Life, if Mii is playable, I'm pretty sure the 3DS TL stage will be its home stage. Wii U will probably be something like Nintendo Land or Miiverse.

I agree. Shadow is less likely than Mewtwo, Donbe and Hikari, Micaiah, Anna, Robin, Lip, Rhythm Wrestler and Chrom getting in the same game

Bah HUMBUG!! I still say Mewtwo is less likely than Shadow at this point, but high chances are neither will be in anyway!
I disagree because Shadow wouldn't even be a good 2nd rep for Sega. Phantom R or Samba would be much better.

This x100

And I agree to this too. I even think Squirtle is more relevant compared to Jigglypuff.
Even if Jigglypuff received a secondary type, Squirtle was a secondary starter whose final evolution received a Mega Form, which to me is more important. Even if we go by the Anime, Squirtle was there more often than Jigglypuff. Not only did Ash have one but so did May I believe.

Mii and PacMan are terrible choices, but a 1.000.000.000.009 times better choice than Shadow the Hedgehog...

I know it's most likely not happening in this title, but Shadow is far more famous than Mewtwo, so if Nintendo buys up SEGA it would make perfect sense to have Shadow in as playable.
Ok ok, let's say Sonic gets a second rep. Shadow will not be playable before Tails.

Wait, let me get this straight.
You're saying that one of the most popular and iconic Pokemon next to Pikachu is somehow inferior to some side character from a third party that already has a rep.

...Am I missing something here?

so if Nintendo buys up SEGA it would make perfect sense to have Shadow in as playable.
Not really.
Even if, this is still a game about Nintendo characters.
It doesn't matter that Nintendo has Sega, they're still Sega. That won't change.

If it's not likely for this title , why is it relevant.

Nintendo buying up SEGA would make them Nintendo characters, they'd just be second party. It's also worth noting that Sonic is the second most popular franchise involved in Smash, so Sakurai putting in more Sonic characters when Nintendo owns SEGA would be a big mistake.

Characters are either owned by Nintendo or they're not. If Nintendo owns SEGA, Sonic characters are first-party.

Once again, not really.
Ever notice that when people talk about Shulk or Wonder Red, they pull up Monolith Soft and Platinum Game respectively?
That's because technically, they're not.
They're part of Nintendo sure, but they aren't Nintendo.

It's also worth noting that Sonic is the second most popular franchise involved in Smash,
Opinions =/= fact.

Oh, and Zelda, Pokemon, and Kirby all say "Hi!".

so Sakurai putting in more Sonic characters when Nintendo owns SEGA would be a big mistake.
Exactly.
