1. You're talking as if Sakurai already added Nook, which makes zero sense. "Villager was too peaceful so I didn't add him, lol never mind I'm adding two AC characters now." Not to mention everything you keep saying that makes him "unique" is **** you made up that would never happen, like him using Mario powers somehow.

I've already mentioned this before as well, but please tell, why exactly does a single "wtf" character mean that we're going to get five more? There's also the fact that Kawashima is based on a real person who isn't even Reggie amirite? His appearance as a playable character is solely your idea in the first place. Also of note, we only ever got a single "wtf" character in Melee and Brawl each, being Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. Miss Fit was already revealed, we already have our "wtf."

You talk about merits and uniqueness, yet you pick characters mostly on uniqueness alone with absolutely no merits at all. Being unique is not a one-way ticket in, and the only character you have with any merits is Nook, who isn't unique at all (again, Nook using Mario's tanooki suit is not thing, it's like saying Krystal will get in and use weapons from Kid Icarus).
3. All you seem to do when making a roster is pick a bunch of random characters that no one's ever heard about and toss them in. Out of three games in the franchise, not once has that happened, the majority of the roster are popular and big-name characters that people actually care about.
I smell noticable flaws in this argument. It's time to debate then. :dizzy:
2. I know you're talking about one specifically. :p
Kawashima with no merits?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_Age:_Train_Your_Brain_in_Minutes_a_Day!
It has received both commercial and critical success, selling 19.00 million copies worldwide (as of March 31, 2013) and has received multiple awards for its quality and innovation.
Looks like you are wrong, he does have as much merits considering the success of Brain Age.

1. You tell me what recovery Tom Nook would use to be unique then. :seuss:
3. You never heard of them, but other people have, they aren't just random **** I added you know.
4. Just because Wii Fit Trainer is the community's definition of WTF, doesn't mean there can be more surprises in the roster, it's not solely my idea, and a few others have considered the floating head, even in pre-Brawl times.

1. As a merchant, I think he would function completely different from the Villager. Without counting the Tanooki powers, he could use a broom, furniture for the majority of his moveset, and use debt for a unique kind of playstyle. There's alot you can do with him and that's not the vast majority Villager is "representing".
2. If he is adding the unexpected, he would know what he's adding and know the unexpected will get positive feedback if executed correctly. Every newcomer will probably get negative feedback, no one can stop it, I don't think Sakurai cares too much about it.
3. Robin and Chrom could be considered and are viable indeed, I didn't say Robin was, sorry for misinterpretation. :o
1.) Does Tom Nook have a broom? Or sell one? Anyway, I do like the idea of furniture for some of his move set, but I have a really hard time imagining that being his entire move set. A few specials, sure, but the idea of Tom Nook running around swinging lamps, sofas, and bedside tables is a little hard to fathom. I can't really say much about debt, though. I'd have to see a fully functioning move set based around that idea before I'm convinced. Also, wouldn't a move set like that imply that Tom Nook is a greedy antagonist? He's just a shop owner, and the most helpful one at that. He's not exactly the kind of person to force debt on you, and even then, he never rushes debts you owe him.

2.) I would think any game director would be VERY concerned about whether what they were doing would get positive feedback.

3.) Ok.

2-I'm noticing an even bigger flaw, you're ignoring the fact that Kawashima is a real person. He's already ineligible in the first place.

1-He would use the same recovery that Falco and Wolf used to not be unique.
3-I know all of those characters, and only Sable and Nook have any sort of merit, but are still highly unlikely.
4-It's our definition? One of the major reasons Sakurai picked her is because she was never asked for, she was intentionally added as a "wtf" on Sakurai's part. Could there be more surprises? Yes, but I've already explained why Kawashima isn't one.

This is why I'm saying we can't have a roster full of characters that no one expected or wanted.
Agreed, but this goes both ways. Predicting a roster of character nobody wanted is silly, but including every requested character is implausible and also would mean a lot of unsavory choices.

The link you provided doesn't have an actual picture of the man, so here's the guy in real life, for anyone interested:

Didn't know Kawashima was based on an actual guy. This does pose a sizeable obstacle for inclusion.

Agreed. This is why we don't include Goku/Shrek/Shadow/Geno/Daisy on most of our rosters.

3. Then that's just bias I'm seeing, saying that Kawashima doesn't have any merit is flawed.
4. And also because she was very unique:
http://nintendoeverything.com/sakur...er-in-new-smash-bros-just-to-surprise-people/
I don’t want to say shock value, per se, but just to surprise people. And that’s really not the case. I think these are very unique characters and they lend themselves well to the Smash Bros. family because they bring things we don’t already see
Why do people forget this?

Liking the post of a person you're arguing with isn't helping your stance, Blue.
I knew that, I just like the conversation I have right now. Keeps me pumped up while we wait for the direct.

I just flew in from GameFAQs and BOY DO I FEEL STUPID.

I'm noticing a difference between characters expected/wanted there and ones expected/wanted here, or at the very least, some are wanted more than others. Do you think this is because of the inherent difference in "quality" between the users here and the users there? Do you think people being more thoughtful and logical in their speculation is always a good thing, or does it sometimes pay to be bottom-of-the-barrel stupid when choosing the roster?

Do you think that our much greater sense of community allows us to get more done when it comes to making rosters and choosing characters?

Ironically, the characters I want are lot more hated there. Perhaps they're not implausible after all?

And yes, Wario, Smashboards is better than GameFAQs. The only people who don't know that...are GameFAQs.

3. There's no bias here, Kawashima has even less merits than Reggie, and honestly, the only person who has any right to be called a Nintendo all-star is Miyamoto.
4. He still mentioned the surprise, which is exactly what a "wtf" character is, Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. were very unique, were they not?

It's not absolute insanity, but there are a few major differences.

1. Ridley is (obviously) not a commonly-accepted choice on most rosters, as he is here.
2. Palutena is fairly unanimously their "Most Wanted Newcomer".
3. Takamaru and Lip are both much less popular.
4. K. Rool is much less popular.
5. Daisy is much more prevalent (and annoying). Waluigi support is immediately gangbanged by said Daisy supporters.
6. Shulk and Isaac are both pretty much ignored.
7. From what I can tell, there is much greater Pac-Man support.
8. Everyone hates everyone else and their opinions, to the point of threads being created simply to attack other characters and their supporters.

Can you see the difference James? It's pretty damn obvious. This Brain Age Kawashima has only the head and the polygons. I don't see where your fully based is working at.

Im hoping we get three more characters from Captain Rainbow, as Little Mac was the one I wanted the least. Takumaru, Lip, and Donbe + Hikari all have a chance, with Takumaru having the greatest shot. Who here thinks that Donbe + Hikari could get in without the inclusion of Lip and Takumaru? Would Lip and takumaru help or hurt their inclusion?

1.) Go figure.
2.) Well, I guess that's not a bad thing.
3.) I guess anyone who isn't in the "now" isn't viable.
4.) See above.
5.) Question the above. Actually, just question them entirely.
6.) Well that's random.
7.) I'm ok with that.
8.) So it's just like real life?

@ BluePikmin11 BluePikmin11 : So, are you saying that Dr. Kawashima is loosely based on Dr. Kawashima?

To be fair to them, despite the roster issues, Ridley and King K. Rool was voted their #2 and 3 respectively to Palutena, ahead of even Mewtwo (#4). Isaac and Shulk also were on the top 10 list and Isaac in particular is pretty liked (though there seems to be a bit of a war between him and Shulk fans for whatever reason).

Really, it seems to be more that the people that don't like those respective characters seem to be more vocal in their hate, which makes posting on there looking for positive discussion a complete hassle as the debates are a lot more heated.

1. Are you serious? He's clearly not fully based on the guy because they didn't make him photo-realistically resemble his real life counterpart on a handheld game system, that makes perfect sense.
3. That's not bias, that's truth. Am I biased in saying that Mario is Nintendo's biggest franchise and is more important than Kirby?
4. :gw::rob:
Well, I won't try to stop any delusions.

They could, but I see Takamaru happening first, there is really no denying that with the recent events of his franchise getting attention.

Yes I am, what is wrong with that.
Visuals aren't going to automatically "BAM" their inclusion in the character thought process.

"Sir, I've just created this floating head called Dr. Kawashima for our new game!"
"Kawashima? You mean the famed neuroscience?"
"No, no, this is a different guy, I made him up, no relation!"
"He looks just like-"
"HE IS FLOATING HEAD!!!"

The point is, that IS the real-life Kawashima. Or are we going to say that this isn't Miyamoto?

The point is, he's the real Kawashima. He wasn't made up for the game. He's not an "alternate" Kawashima. He's just Kawashima.
