To be fair, I'm a pretty big deal.
Remember: I have a case of Sakurai Modesty. It's likely why I'm so supposed to the idea.
Though I guess a lot of people would like them at first, then regret it after seeing those Miis online.
I still think they should just be their own character.
Heck, it's completely possible.

The main look would be the generic Mii (the brown-haired neutral faced Mii in red you see before changing anything.)
And the palette swaps could be either different shirt or the guests Miis.
I'd take this. Just as long as I don't have to see people being all super "THIS IS MY MII AND I'M BETTER THAN YOU" or that kind of mentality online.

Look, I don't hate Miis. But I absolutely can't stand the idea of them being in Smash.
It's not the Hitler and Jesus Miis.
It's not the OP potential.

It's the fact that if Miis become included, it is inevitable that no one is going to use any other character.
All of the new characters, all the old ones that Sakurai's worked so hard on to make a diverse and appealing cast.
Abandoned in favor of Miis.

Do you guys really want that?
But this is another reason why. They'll just take away absolutely everyone's real star power. "Why have Mario when you can have a Mario Mii?"

I have to say, I like the Miis. I think they deserve it more than anyone. And yes, not a lot of people would like them, but they really truly deserve it.

I don't think it means that no one will use the other characters. Yes, there will be some cult following behind them, but personally, that won't stop me from playing Rosalina, Miss Fit, hopefully Palutena, and my previous mains. And I think that says the same for most people here.

I think Mii's had their chance in Brawl to be honest with ya. I don't hate them, but I don't like the idea of people using Mii's of Richard Feynman.
The Miis had existed for a little over two years when Brawl came out. And that's not even when the roster was decided.
And they only existed on the Wii, and they hadn't been featured in as many games.
Now look at today. Miis are featured on the Wii-U and 3DS. And they're a much bigger part of those two consoles than they were on the Wii.
And now they have many more roles under their varying-sized belts.
So if you're going to think Miis are unlikely, don't think it's because if they were going to be in at all, they would've been in Brawl. Because they have much more reason to be included now than they did way back when.

That's the thing.
I'm a fan of Miis, but I see where the hate is coming from.
Heck, there's the exact reasons I'm pessimistic about Miis.

And as much as I'm a sucker for customization.
For a game like this it would kill the metagame.

If not a lot of people would like them, frankly it wouldn't be worth the effort.

And of course the people here are going to use regular characters, but what about the general community?
Where all the requests come from? The same place where Goku and Shrek are requested?

Wii U is completely online - Miis can be incorporated other ways.

It isn't solely about their absence in Brawl either. I also don't like the idea of certain graphical issues with Mii's, like if they had a (BLOCKED) drawn on their face, I won't like that, we have CHILDREN playing smash.

Children would not create a Mii that has a (BLOCKED) on it, now would they? I like Mii's, but I don't really have much interest in them being in Smash. One thing to consider is this: What would the Mii Trophy look like?
The Mii posing.
Simple really.

It's hard to say how Mii oversaturation would turn out. I can understand your viewpoint, but I suppose I'll just present my more optimistic side and you can judge it for yourself. This is from a long time ago...
shrooby said:
I don't think Miis would be as prevalent as you think. With most of the games in which you can take your Miis online, to the average juvenile gamer, the differences between character aren't very clear. In Mario Kart Wii/7, for example, the average gamers who go around with their racist and celebrity Miis do so
A) Because it's "funny"
B) Because there's little difference between picking your Mii and picking any other character. Why pick Wario or Luigi when I can go with ****4Face? Those small stat boosts that come with each characters don't really matter to the average player, so being "funny" really doesn't come at any cost.
I think that with Smash though the problem would not be as severe, using the same example, as Mario Kart Wii/7 (I'll admit that I really hate Miis in those game) because, unlike so many online games in which Miis are playable, each character in Smash feels different. Even the average juvenile gamer has characters that they like to use over others. And those characters may or may not include Miis.
Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like you would never see those kids who think that they're hilarious for playing as Lady Gaga or Hitler, but I don't think it would be quite as prevalent as you think it would be. Because if those same kids don't actually like to play as Miis, then they won't keep up the "hilarity" for as long as they would if all the characters seemingly played the same.
I know that making such a claim for such a large group of players is rather crazy, but it's just food for thought I suppose. This is always a possible outcome for what online could become with Miis. I completely understand your reasons for despising the idea of playable Miis though, since an online environment where I'm fighting three "hilarious" Miis doesn't sound appealing in the slightest.

I can respect that, but we weren't discussing whether or not you want or like Miis.

I'm guessing we'll see something involving the single player in Smash 4. They've been a little hush-hush about it. With a Smash-centric direct, it seems reasonable to show it off. As for characters, I don't know how many we'll see. But if I had to guess, we might get two or three newer characters. Maybe Palutena and some Retro character. Veterans seems a little bit easier to guess, we'd probably get to see Yoshi and Wario, maybe Meta-Knight too. Though the only other vet that'd bring a ton of hype would be Snake. It'd be real cool to see him show up.

He would definitely do the generic Mii.

What I would see is doing the generic male and the generic female and put them together as the "Mii" Trophy.
A generic Mii for the trophy! Ok, now I get it. As long as I can play as the Mii I truly created, I'm happy. Heck, I could probably whip up a Mii of a character I wanted and use him/her if I so choose. I'm really just hoping that I can choose the Mii I play as.

I feel omitting the ability to customize your Mii would basically kill all reason to include the character to begin with. The Mii isn't a character per say, it's supposed to be a representation of yourself, making it not customizable would render it unrelatable and would also be a huge waste of potential.

Of course I'm talking only physical appearance, no way we're going to be able to customize the Miis moves or anything.

Looks like a good time to post this.
Let's be honest here: there was nothing to promote aside from New Island. Do you think he would just ignore any timed-potential reveals like this, for no reason, no matter how small? And most of March is already gone, yet still nothing?
Now, I'm not saying anyone should believe the following theory, just keep it in mind.
My theory is that there is going to be a Smash direct next month. Aside from the obvious, there's the fact that E3 is nearly three months from now, right? Or at least July, so it's already getting close. If he set up a Smash direct soon, that would cause even more hype for E3 otherwise. Let's also keep in mind that a similar situation happened around November. Aside from Marth, what did we get? Almost nothing. Next month? The first newcomer outside of E3. See where I'm getting at? Virtually nothing one month, next one, boom!
So, if this were to happen? Here's a few things that might happen.
1. Newcomer: I'm going with K. Rool, since I did find it weird that Diddy was revealed despite not being TF's JP date. And besides, all the Mario cast revealed like that? Peach especially since she was only shown off for an anniversary, which doesn't happen often? Seems fishy.
2. The Return of Snake: It certainly would cause hype.
3. Any Other Vet: Obvious possibility is obvious.
I doubt it, but... it's possible.
Anyone remember this? :shades:

I don't think you'll be able to change the height or weight, simply because of complications. I think you'll be able to change the face, color, hair, etc., and keep the normal height and weight.

SMASH BROS DIRECT!

What I Expect:

- One or two new character reveals (or announcements)
- Info on the existing characters' moves
- Info on new modes
- New footage, possibly with new items/stages

What I Don't Expect:

- Single Player Info
- Trophies/Unlockables
- Focused on new content instead of the gameplay

I would actually consider the height/weight thing to be a plus. If some fat guy who doesn't like being fat was playing, he'd be satisfied because he's on the field and trim.

Do you know how much you'd have to balance something like that?
It may not look like it. But it could cause major issues with balancing.

I was referring to the fact that it'd be hell for balancing and competitive play (so many different options for a Mii), not the fact that people don't like being overweight, but okay.

Well, if you look at how Mii's look in Wii Sports, they're all the same height, and none of them are fat, I'm assuming that'll be the same concept for Smash.
Not like that.
I'm referring to height/weight changes in general.
Stuff like that can be difficult to keep balanced.

This pretty much says it.

"Generic" makes it no fun for the Mii to play as. :p
I'd rather have generic. Modesty, after all. To you, it may seem dull, but for us, it's the lesser of two evils. And it doesn't really change their moveset and what really can make them unique, they'd be the same on the movesets.

What would you rather have?
A broken mess dominating most of the metagame and online.

Or a character that can be used both casually and competitively?

Sometimes the boring, but practical way is the best option.
